This was inevitable. The good news is, they might actually hit the March 08 deadline. Operative word being... might.

Delays pave the way to polish, and polish wins. (look at ... the big one)

besides, i wasn't hyped up enough to be shocked at this, leave the mmo world for a few months peoples, you won't believe how everything changes.

March 2008! Crikey. Wonder if this in part a tactical decision waiting after WoW release their expansion.

I was really really afraid this would happen, when I first heard that Funcom were to develop a Conan MMO I thought to myself "holy sh1t, that game will suck" Based on the screwup called Anarchy-Online. But after viewing some screens and video it looked promising.

And with these pushbacks I can sense the old Funcom is coming back, trying to release unfinished crap, realising the code is screwed up, pushing it back, screwing with it some more, then finally releasing it anyway because investers are tapping their foot, then patching pretty much constantly making "war codeing" just to keep the stuff up...

Anarchy-Online, anyone?

I'm thinking this is a bad company move right now as the MMO market sucks and it's stale as hell which is one of the bigger reasons WoW is/has been so successful.  But after reading their statement, it looks like the game sucks worse than the market now and they need to go back to the drawing board if they want to make any money.   Bad move but I guess good that they don't want to release a dud.

They are probably being very careful with the release of this game considering how bad the release of AO went.  I surely would of loved to give this game a go in October, but I'd much rather they release a working & playable game in March than a bug filled mess in October.  Though missing the Xmas shopping season is really gonna put a damper on their potential sales.

Warhammer
Alliance

Its a good thing... it means at last some Devs are taking notice of how unfinished broken releases are unaccetable in todays market and WILL come back to bite them in the ass...take the time now to fix what's wrong and release a polished product, that way you don't lose players and have bad publicity immediately after launch.

March 2008 is probably going to conflict with WoW's new expansion even more, to be honest. So I don't think that's the problem. More than likely, Microsoft is preparing to release a new Xbox 360 in order to combat Sony's gathering inertia. This 360 will be able to support DirectX 10 and thus allow the 360 to support 'more games' (AKA: New Amazing PC Games). This is an issue because it costs unneccessary amounts of money for developers to 'retrofit' games to DX9 in order for the the 360 to play them... so... Conan will be ready. And will be 'improved' from its original release intentions. But they're going to hold onto it until Microsoft is ready to release its DX10 console. Just keep your eyes peeled for other PC games to have this issue as well. Being told to 'hold off' until the 360 can support them. Its almost a no brainer at this point...

Putting out a new xbox 360 for dx10 would be dumb. Then New xbox 360 games would be only playable on those thus pissing off older model 360 owners. If I own a 360 I expect it to play all 360 games ever made. They could add cool stuff for the newer machines but they still need to retrofit the games for old 360's.
