I agree WoW was fun...until you hit the level cap and do the big raids.  I mean some people have lives.  I for one can't play in a raid that lasts freaking 6 or more hours and requires me too hook up a catheter to pee with and a Mountain Dew IV drip too stay awake.  Now don't get me wrong I had some good times, but come on...6 hour plus raids?  So before the expansion came out, I deleted my account and moved on to something else.  You want MMORPG to put it on the list???  Alot of people got tired of the same crap over and over and over.  I don't blame them one bit.  Nothing good in WoW that captivates me anymore.   It's a time sink.  I knew a guy who was such a hardcore raider he used to pee in coke bottles because he couldn't get up too pee during a BWL raid.  That's nuts.  If you get up.....NO DKP FOR YOU!!!!!

That's because for the most part, people on this site are reasonable people. Also for the most part people on WoW are not. Now I am not saying that is the way it is for everyone on WoW but when it comes to a website like this it takes some perspective votes from WoW.

I noticed that World of Warcraft isn't on the top mmo's list for this site... I find that pretty funny.... It seems that the "underground" RPG fans HATE wow with a passion.  The hardcore EQ boys and girls... the Hardcore D&D fans...

I guess the point of this post is to ask, why so much hate.  Sure some don't like it... thats fine.  But the fact that it has the most active accounts and players EVER for an MMO and the fact that it brought the whole MMORPG idea to mainstream gaming....

I will agree or say one thing... I think WoW helped to KILL the quality of mmo's these days.  No one has the money or funding to produce something as "grand" as blizzard has.  So everything looks cheap and clunky when compared

1. The majority of WoW players are NOT mmorpg players. They are from Battlenet. Right now login to Diablo 2, and look at the top, middle of the Battlenet screen. Guess what's sitting there, 24 hours a day? Read it and what does it say? Roughly 20 million online gamers play on Battlenet.

2. The "hate" that "hardcore" mmorpg players have for WoW is kind of legit. I think a better word is dislike.  There are many things about WoW that "hardccore" mmorpg players dislike. One of the top reasons is... there is no death penalty in WoW.  In fact, some WoW players will die on purpose to travel easier, faster, and quicker. It's known as corpse traveling.

The fact is, there IS a death penalty in WoW. You suffer equipment damage and you have to run from the nearest graveyard back to your corpse. Sure, this isn't the lashing with a wet noodle that some "hardcore" players long for, but to say there is no death penalty is glaringly incorrect.

1. Yes, you are correct, one suffers equipment damage at death. But it still means nothing. It takes 30 minutes to go from level 1-10. If any player dies during this time... well, they deserve it LOL! They are not a true gamer who thinks while they play. One can either do the starting quests, or just grind for 30 minutes.

Next one will have enough money to learn mining. Then make EASY money by mining, and collecting loot from whatever newbie dungeon is near. Then one will have enough money to learn skinning. After this, oh man, death is litterally meaningless aka there is no death penalty. You die, and it costs 1 silver to repair your items? But it takes you 30 minutes to make 10 silver? There is no death penalty.

As a player reaches higher levels, it costs more to repair items after death, but the player is able to slay far higher level monsters and skin them... making money even faster, quicker, easier. Many players don't have skinning skill, or have soo much gold, they could care less about skinning monsters. You can just sit back, watch them kill 100 monsters, then skin all the monsters they kill! LOL! With the mining skill a player many times don't have to slay a monster. Making sliver, gold, money in WoW is litterally too easy. So much so, that there is no death penalty. So much so, that players will die on purpose  to travel faster.

Smart gamers who play WoW can time the mining mineral spawns perfectly. I did this once, in Stranglethron Vale. Inside a cave is a decently hard boss (gives any player level 25-35 a good battle). He respawns FAST! I went back and forth mining in that cave, slaying the constantly re-spawning boss, and a few of his henchmen, and filled all my bags. From level 25-35 I traveled there a few times, making 5-10 gold per hour! It cost me roughly 1-5 gold to repair all my items (when I was between level 25-35) if I allowed myself to die. And this is just the outside world. Any high level character (level 50+) can solo entire dungeons alone. Just run through the dungeon, pull a train of every single spawn all the way to the very end, then kill everything.

 Read carefully:

In WoW LEVEL = ARMOR. Everytime a player levels up, their level acts as armor. After a few levels, it will be almost impossible for lower level monsters, (and even players) to make 1 hit, even if the higher level player allows them to swing 100 times. So a level 50 can pull 500 monsters in some lower level dungeon on them, from beginning to end, then kill them all in 5 minutes or less. And collect the loot, drops, etc... Learn DisEnchanting, and it's even easier. BC expansion made this insane way of making money a bit harder to do, but it can still be done. (A level 1 character used to be able to DE anything in the game.)

A higher level player can solo dungeons from Deadmines, to Scarlet Monastary, to ZulGurub, and everyone's favorite the Stocades. Stocades is seconds away from the NPC venders. One can blitz the dungeon, and the 3 or so bosses, run out, sell all the loot, then blitz it again. Repeat for an hour and one can make 20 to 50 gold... or more!

Really, really, smart WoW players who take some time to think about the game..... can make such insane money, so incredibly easy, that it is tooo laughable! Create a cold based mage. There are even some WoW videos on YouTube.com of cold based mages killing 50, to 100, to 200 to 300 monsters at the same time!!  All by theirselves! And not get a single scratch! And this is outside the dungeons, in the outside world. They could kill even more, but they run out of monsters to add to the train they pull on theirselves on purpose.  Guess how much money + loot they get from just 1 run?!?  Actually... it's UNimaginable!! That's how much money a cold based mage can make on just 1 run. Now try imagining how much they can make in 1 hour?!?

Death in WoW is laughable. It's meaningless. It's non-existant. There is no death in WoW. There is no death penalty in WoW. It's like fining Bill Gates not even 100 bucks, but more like 25 cents. LOL! Yes, fining someone with more than 25 Billion dollars... fining them 25 cents.

Don't get me started on cold based mages who own a mount. As if it weren't easy enough for them to make too much gold in WoW LOL!

fanbois,haters,hypocrites. It gets very dull.

It should be on the top list, anyone can tell you that. But by the ratings it loses a fair number of points due to its community. Not sure it would ever be top here as here is comprised of mmo fans who have played other mmos and enjoyed aspects of them which may not be found in WoW.

No, I can not tell you that. I do not believe that WoW is deserving of the top list. Why? Lets see...

Graphics: Well they are nice but they're better games for graphics so I can't rate this 10. 10 should only be given to the best and WoW isn't. So... 8.

Sound: It's good. What's more to say? 9.

Role Playing: You can't. Seeing as how you have to pretty muc do raids to be respected and everyone expects you to be on Vent... It's hard to raid on it. This is a 6.

Value: Value? What kind of a catagorie is this anyway? It's just a repeat of the others pretty much. 8?

Fun: Yes, for those who like it, it can be fun. 8.

Community: Hehe... Heh... Yeah... 6.

Performance/Lag: It's hosted by Blizzard. 10.

Customer Service: Meh... 8 million to go around. it's not great and it's not bad. 8

The total... 6.3. Not over 8. Therefor it does not deserve to be up there. By the way you can debate with some of my ratings and if they are reasonable I'll change them.

Id give them a 6 after all even when it came out origonally the graphics were ahrdly up there among the other games of the time and snce them there has been no improvement in the texture quality.

Sound: It's good. What's more to say? 9. Yea cant argue here

Role Playing: You can't. Seeing as how you have to pretty muc do raids to be respected and everyone expects you to be on Vent... It's hard to raid on it. This is a 6. Yea same here shame really that the community is so bad.

Value: Value? What kind of a catagorie is this anyway? It's just a repeat of the others pretty much. 8? 7 overall its a polished game with few lag problems and few bugs a good starter game for the MMO newbie

Fun: Yes, for those who like it, it can be fun. 8. I cant rate this as this is a very subjective thing.

Community: Hehe... Heh... Yeah... 6. Err 4 no need to say why exept to say LOLERSKATES and LEEROY JENKIS

Performance/Lag: It's hosted by Blizzard. 10. Same here

Customer Service: Meh... 8 million to go around. it's not great and it's not bad. 8 Same

The total... 6.3. Not over 8. Therefor it does not deserve to be up there. By the way you can debate with some of my ratings and if they are reasonable I'll change them.    The rating for me is based on an average number of 6.25

"My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle" - Firefly

It just goes to show that the members of this site are not a good cross-section of all MMO players, but a cross section of all the many MMO niche market players waiting for the game that suits them best.

I don't hate WoW, in fact I'm back to playing it yet again with friends while I wait for other games to launch.

I'm waiting for:

AoC- though I think it will probably suck

CoS- which might suck and might take forever to launch in the US

WAR- which I think is a guaranteed success

Aion- which I think is almost a guaranteed success, but will be more of a niche market for US players rather then a mainstream game.

I've kind of lost interest in PotBS just because its not really what I'm looking for, but it might be fun in its own way.  I think SoE getting involved is a good thing, not a bad.
