A day in the life of a SOE Community Relations Manager (aka Hypocrite) can be very hectic at times. for example here is a quote from Mr. Grimwells blog.

"Shortly after lunch today, I get an IM from my lead moderator telling me that we will probably want to add “Mangina” to our naughty word filter. Considering that “Vagina” and “Penis” are in the naughty word filter, this is a no-brainer. It does need to go in the naughty word filter! So I added it to the filter and affirmed that it was there. Instead of “Mangina” posts with the word now say [I cannot control my vocabulary], which always makes me giggle." http://www.grimwell.com/?p=21

Supposedly this word was added because it did not conform to the T for Teen rating that EQ2 is rated for by the ESRB.  Ok I can understand that. But to quote Mr. Grimwell again...

"we don’t want little Timmy’s mom and dad discovering that their angelic high school student is exposed to bad words." http://www.grimwell.com/?p=21

But what the real issue here is that we on the SOE forums can not link to a site called eq2flames (www.eq2flames.com) because it is not a T for Teen rating.  But Mr. grimwell can link to www.grimwell.com in his FORUM SIGNATURE so every post he makes has a link to his blog that contains passages like the following, and I quote

"Which is why my friends at “flames”[EQ2flames.com] get no public love, they are not T for teen. To put this in context, I could give a fucking shit what the hell some jackass says while they wave their epeen about like a bastard on a crackwhore with fifty cents to spare. Bad words do not bother me, but I have no problem being civil in places where it is appropriate. Being civil in the EQII forums is appropriate." http://www.grimwell.com/?p=21

My question to you ladies and gentlemen does a link to a blog like this belong in the signature of the "Community Relations Manager"?  And does this make him and Sony Online Entertainment in General Hypocrites?

"I’m just enforcing standards that I am paid to enforce; and ones that I agree with. we delivered a ‘T for Teen’ game to the ESRB, we should keep it that way. Period." http://www.grimwell.com/?p=21

Hmmm paid to enforce standards as long as it doesn't concern you Mr. Grimwell?

Good a Nice Day,

Voice of Lucan Dlere

PS.- Since Mr. Grimwell deletes/locks/bans anyone who postes on this subject, I had to go public. SOE is this the type of person you want running your "community Relations" ? Someone who abuses there power for there own means...

While he has the right to say whatever he wants on his blog, I would agree that the link should be removed from his signature on the game's forums.

Who uses in game chat anyways?  All this silly censoring is forcing in game chat to be unusable.  Ever notice that half the stuff the NPCs say if you retype it in chat it gets censored?   I cant stand in game chat.

Everyone is on some voice program like vent and TS and can hear all the dirty words anyways.  Some guilds have a no gratuitous swearing rule.  On the other hand, some guilds seem to encourage swearing.

To make a long story short... every chat censoring game I have run across censors too much and makes chat unusable to me.

Did you miss the fact he is talking about posting in the forums, not chat?

I'm gonna go with the age old, and ever unanswered, question: If I'm not allowed to say fuckity fuck fuck fuck in general chat, should I so desire, because someones kid might be playing*, or someone's delicate sensibilities might be offended**... Then why the hell is there a profanity filter, and why the hell are these whiny gasbags turning it the hell off in the first place?***

* -Not my problem

** -Like I give a shit

*** -Other than so they'll have something to complain about, that is. If they actually self-censored the chat channels, they wouldn't be able to work themselves into a self-righteous tizzy fit of indignation at being exposed to foul language that they would never have heard in the first place, had they not made the conscious decision to turn off the filter. Purposely. Seriously, I would give my left nut to watch a GM call one of these whiny sacks on their BS.

And yes, him having a link to his own personal blog in his work sig is pretty unprofessional. Nevermind that it is all full of mean, nasty, sweary stuff, while censoring others is pretty hypocritical.

Even more so if he gets donations, or ad revenue from his site. Or revenue from T-shirt sales and the like.
