I just got an email saying the following:

"thanks for playing Vanguard....SOE would like to offer you a FREE copy of EQ2 including the first 3 expansions and first 3 adventure packs...and play for free until 11:59PM September 15th 2007"

Official from Sony, so its legit. Also said my account was already flagged with this offer, so it appears no credit card or activation is required.

I quit Vanguard shortly after the first 30 days, not sure if this offer applies to all former Vanguard players.

I quit Vanguard after the first free month, hope I get this offer as well.

Lol he is right... i never got an email from them but i decided to check it out anyway since i still have eq2 installed on my computer.

Well i go to start it up and i get passed the login screen so i must have a subscription. I check the my account page to find that i have all the expansions and all the adventure packs now and my subscription lasts until September 15! Thanks for letting me know since SOE apparently didn't let me know.

I've never subscribed to EQ2 before but I still haven't gotten this yet??

I bought Vanguard on May and the free month ended on June.

wonder if Beta testers got some love...?  never subscribed...lol

I was confused. Kept checking my account details just to make sure SOE hadnt somehow billed me incorrectly

Not for nothing but this seems like a really smart move by SoE.

Lets face it Vanguard isn't ready yet and isn't gonna be for a few months if ever. It's too bad, I had high hopes for that game. EQ2 however is very ready. I'm not saying its the best game out there but it is very polished and firmly established. It has more than enough content with more on the way. While it's not revolutionary, it excels in the areas that Vanguard has struggled with. I would think that they (SoE) would be able to retain a good portion of dissatisfied Vanguard players, and there $, with this promo.

Not to mention they goodwill they could potentially generate with the MMO community at large. We all know they suffer from image problems, deservedly or not.

I'm going to have to go check my accounts.. I have two SOE accounts, both had vanguard, and both had EQ2 at one point... I hope they are flagged too!

  tshirt costs too much. they gonna give you a  free copy of vanguard though, those things dont even sell any more =D

Well, SOE sure is being there greedy selves now aren't they. I'm glad I got over my SWG hate a long time ago, cause hate is such a wasteful emotion.

i havent got 3 free months. booooo yet i played vanguard though i stopped before the end of the first free month. not sweating it either way. but would of been nice to get 3 free months.

Question: Do the people who got the free three months, have you tried EQ2 on that account before? As in you registered a key before and had a subscription in the past? I've had Vanguard on my account for the free month and played the EQ2 Trial of the Isle yet I haven't gotten an email from SOE and have tried to log in to EQ2 but it asks me to register a key.

Would really be sweet if I got in on this offer...

I'm a former VG player and just got the offer in the email today. I've never played EQ2, and while I'm sort of busy in EVE atm, free is free so I'll probably fire this up and see what the game is like....

I sort of consider this as an apology of sorts from SOE........ so I'll graciously accept.....

Just some facts about my account that I got the email on:

-Started account for SWG back when it was in beta. Quit in Jan, 2004.

-Never had an EQ or EQ2 subscription on the account.

-Played Vanguard in beta and 1st month after launch. Cancelled at about 40 days after launch.

-Resubbed to SWG after I quit Vanguard, cancelled that after about 50 days.

-Account was completely inactive since April of this year.

On a side note, is there anywhere else to download the game? Launchpad is telling me like 90 hours to download, and its been running for about 5 hours already.

I came back to EQ2 when the KoS expansion came out, but quit after a few days.

I pre ordered Vanguard, but quit before the 30 days free was over.

I came back to SWG for a few weeks and canceled my SWG sub last week.

I didn't get an email, but I checked my acount info and saw that I had access to the Echoes of Faydwer expansion and a few adventure packs or whatever they're called.

I'm currently patching and will probably be patching for the remainder of the time they've alotted for this.

Despite the fact that I think that WoW is a superior game overall,  everyone that gets this free offer and hasn't tried EQ2 properly should definately take it up because EQ2 has a lot to offer, especially to those burned out on WoW or waiting for the next big thing. 

EQ2 is a very high quality MMO.  In my mind, it's in the top 3 MMOs along with WoW and EVE.  It doesn't have the slickness of WoW, or the freedom of EVE, but it has a few things going for it.  The quests are rewarding, the lore is great (though the introduction voice-over is awful) and the group-based quests are pretty damn good.  You become geniunely addicted to advancing through the levels, getting better abilities and exploring the interesting and well-constructed dungeons.

EQ2 is the rough jewel in SOE's MMO crown, the embodiment of everything SOE - it has all of their mistakes and all of their success rolled into one package.  Before WoW, they were widely regarded as the kings of the MMO genre.  They dropped the ball, probably concerned too much with making EQ2 a cash cow instead of making it a good game.  It took several revisions of major portions of the game to get it right, including the infamous LU13 (where all my classes abiltiies were completely changed), SWG vets will know where I am coming from with this.

I played EQ2 for well over a year, it might have been two years, but anyway - I enjoyed most of it.  You really need a group to make the most of the game - the coolest dungeons and quests require a group, but there's a lot of solo content too.  The raid content is OK, usually you're just fighting bigger versions of the same thing you kill in groups, though it has a few nasty dragons now (even though some of these are 1-groupable).

This game requires a bit of patience,  I think the newbie levels are bland and boring, even in Faydark.  Group roles are diluted over too many classes, making each one feel like a different flavor instead of a completely different experience.  Yet this game has every potential to take over your life and make all other games seem insignificant.  It's an aquired taste.

Sigh.... i didnt get an email so i went to check my account and still only says original EQ2 and DoF and i cant logg in :( i was thinking of trying this game again too heh...
