As long as the adverts are in flavor of the game I've no issue with it...but, for the life of me, I can't see what kind of fantasy advertisments would look like. CoX and Tabula Rasa I can see adverts spoofed up to blend in. An old billboard, something like that. So, go ahead and post your |

In-game advertisements for MMOs is a joke. I will not support it whatsoever in any game. When I subscribe to an MMO I pay my $15 every month to cover the server and further developement costs (as well as giving a small profit to the company). Advertisements are just ways to get more money for the company and nothing will be passed onto the gamers. In-game advertisements are acceptable in single-player games, not MMOs. Its a shame I was really looking forward to Tabula Rasa too. |

So 15.00 bucks a month is not enough?
I am not going to play a game with in-game ads. I want immersion when I play a MMORPG. Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City. |

Personally,I feel you get what you pay for and I'd much rather pay a monthly subscription fee than be bombarded with product placement during my game time. I'd go so far as to say that I would never play a game with in-game advertising. I'd much rather pay $15 a month to spare myself being bombarded by advertising. In fact, I'd even pay a higher monthly fee to AVOID in-game advertising.

I think its a bad idea my self, and only the money thirsty companies will go for it (wait they all are). Whats the point of us paying monthly for the game than? Whats next, you will be able to pay 30 dollars a month to play with no adds in the game? I just cant see how you can advertise a fantasy game or a future scifi game with the current rl adds. It will destroy the fun of the game, and takte that feeling away that you are used to when playing MMOs because they take you away from your rl. It will feel like you are watching a movie and are still trapped in your rl. I don't agree with in game advertising for games you buy at the store and pay to pay (monthly subscription) or for guild wars either (you had to buy that game and also buy the expansion packs as well). I do however think if the game was free, then in game advertising i would say yes. Thats no game purchase and no online fee's either.
If a game had in game advertising and i had to purchase/pay a monthly fee to play i would stay well clear of it period. No matter if the game is good, brilliant or shite (last one i would stay clear of it anyways LOL). At the moment i pay anywhere from £6.50 (just over $13) to £9.50 (just over $19) to play. |

Ads inside paying games ?? This already been done in Anarchy Online, when you play the game for free you have ads inside the game, however once you become a paying customer you can turn these off. I will not support a game that charge monthly fees and put in game ads, however if the game is free then it's ok. You can't have best of both world. |

Originally posted by Aguitha This makes sense, and you cant argue with it because its free, but if I buy a game at retail price, have to pay monthly for it and have to watch tampon commercials while I grind than I will be pissed. Alright so we are all in agreement then! This has beocme the official "Boycott all MMOs with adverts in them" thread. I'm serious, we should do it. It's the only way the publishers will learn. EDIT: That is to say, pay to play MMOs. Freebie MMOs need adverts. |

I told you all that they were coming. But Noooo! They wouldn't advertise where it wasn't wanted in the fantasy lands. Advertising was okay as long as it fit in. It doesn't fit in in fantasy lands! So they won;t do it. HAH! And this is being done in part because all of you idiots and naive people TOLD THEM that it was okay to advertise within a game. Have fun with your Viagra ads in Lineage 2.

If the in game ads are in FREE games... then no problem.
But not in something that has a monthly fee. Thats just garbage. |

I must say I find this a bit disturbing. If they are going to be doing this with subscription based games like TR, CoX and lineage then I (the consumer) better be seeing a drastic price reduction. If that isn't the case I will definitely be voicing my discontent over this to them. |

if a game company needs money to fund their game and coke wants to pay them to have some vending machines in it or something i don't really mind. lots of ppl play games.. advertisers are slow. eventually you will be numb to it as - commercials. you pay a monthly fee for cable, and they advertise during shows! outrageous really. die. <3 |

I'm not totally against in-game advertisements, provided they "fit" the time period/setting of the game they're placed in.
For example, if I'm playing a game like "The Matrix Online", I won't care if I see some computer ads here and there. Or if I was playing something like "Second Life", I'm not going to flip out over a Trojan ad or a Wendy's billboard.
However, if I'm running around in Warhammer Online or Tabula Rasa, and I see an advertisement for Michelin Tires or McDonalds, I'm unsubscribing at that very moment. Totally unacceptable. Unless of course, they get very, very creative. If I see a Michelin advertisement, and it's a picture of a wooden wheel with a Goblin blacksmith next to it... I'd personally find that rather entertaining!
It'll be interesting to see how they handle it. |

Originally posted by project8six You're right. AO does it. However, it does it as a trade off for people to play the basic game for free. When you begin paying a subscription, the ads go bye-bye. So, if NCsoft plans to let everyone who has to see these ads play for free, then fine. If not, then it's pure greed. If that's the case, then people closing their subscriptions should wise 'em up real quick. |

I will not play a game with adds in game when I pay a monthly fee. It just isnt gonna happen, because I know that alot of people feel the same way I do because thats simply being greedy and not giving a shit about your community and that company wont be sucessful. I dont care how good the game is that just isnt fair, its like paying to get HBO than they slap 10 minute commercials in your movies it just doesnt make sense. If the game is free than they have every right to slap you with adds, thats how free phone internet worked back in the day and you couldnt bitch about it because you had no reason to, it was free. Even if the adds may fit in the game setting I dont want to see them I dont want to see stuff that happens in real life, I want to create my own content and play in a world that doesnt exist, thats the main reason why we play MMOs if I wanted to see real life crap Id go paint balling one evening with my friends and than come home and call it a night.
