Star Wars Galaxies is now accepting nominations for the Galactic Senate. Senators representing various aspects of the game will be able to propose and vote on senate legislation as well as request a redress of issues by the development team.

Mission

It is the mission of the Galactic Senator to represent to the best of his or her ability the segment of community for which he or she has been appointed. It is the responsibility of the Senator to take into account the interests and sentiments of those represented in an unbiased and objective capacity, serving as advocate, leader, and unified voice for the players.

Appointment

Candidates for the Galactic Senate may be nominated by any player in good standing, and self-nominations are also considered. Clarity and influence are among the top desired traits for a Senator to possess. An election commission comprising of the Star Wars Galaxies Community Team will appoint the title of Senator to players from the pool of nominations. Once appointed, a Senator will serve a 6 month term at which point the position will be open to new candidates.

What a Senator Can Do

• Propose Senate topics for a vote.
• Request a redress of issues by the development team.
• Attend the Convocation in-game event.
• Vote on Senate legislation

What a Senator Cannot Do

• Propose any backwards regression of updates.
• Ban players
• Squelch or otherwise mute players.

Darth Smedley dissolved the Galactic Senate permanently around the time of hte NGE.

At least they're trying.... I don't see any other mmo doing this kind of thing.  I've always thought if someone could develop a WORKING 'voting' system from players in an MMO it would be very cool and considerate...

Why would they even do it then?  I hope that all senators will still try to force them to undo NGE.  I loved the game when I played it back in the day.  Then one day I woke up and my TK master was pretty much worthless.  I was  having a fun time going through the skill professions to get my jedi powers unlocked with the halocrons... then it became a big grindfest.  There's just something about killing millions of animals that seems contradictory to finding the force.....

They're not trying... EvE is doing the same thing, except better.  From what I saw, they were flying the representatives out there to meet with the developers.  Although this was because of accused cheating by devs that play the game.  It's pretty much the same idea, but one that will probably work for EvE.  I could only imagine that it would be like being a senator from Rome when Julius Caesar was running things.  I'm sure Smedley Caesar will listen to them   Unfortunantly, the senators won't be able to revolt and kill him.

HAH! I knew it...

I have to say I was very disappointed with the NGE. But since chapter 6 things have changed and I hope things continue to change for the better. This is a good step. The sense of distrust has to be communicated.
