The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on. |
As a game engine Blender is still slightly lacking, although I must applaud their swift ability to fix bugs and make it better quite quickly. Right now, it's not there. But I wouldn't be surprised that within the year it will be. |

i installed the progem and download some exemple projects , it was very surprizing to see a 800 k file , turn into a FPS game. AWDS + mouse , left clic to shot , space to jump. everything was there , working ... im going to start from there ,add some more rooms , it will be my tuturials play ground. anyway , i think this is a huge pack of tools for free. |

I worked with BGE for 4 years or so, and in the end was very disgusted with many of the bugs that had been there for the entire 4 years still not fixed, the slow performance and limited special effects of the engine, and the logic system which is great for simple games but dies exponentially fast when games get more complex. Still, I had a great time with the engine and learned a lot from it. I was one of the first/only people to do a working multiplayer game in it, using python for scripting, and that project is still going as I have ported the python code away from blender and into the ogre3d engine instead. I still remember the week i spent making a zelda game in blender, at the time it was one of the most impressive games anyone had made. It seems pretty terrible now :) I think the BGE is a very good training wheels engine, if you don't get too ambitious you can even take projects quite far. But, I regret not jumping ship sooner than I did. My games would be so much further along by now if I had... The open source has made it better, though I fear many of the same problems I had with it are still present. I still use Blender for content creation, it's one of the best, most complete free packages of anything ever. I was in the community so long, I still feel a bit like a traitor not to be gaming with it any more :( |

spelling and puncatution are for elngish casls not the inertent |
well ogre is your friend and a better one than you think because of one python ogre and two because ogre is being intigrated into blender as the new game engine so just wait until blender 2.5 is out and the echo project is done and you will have one of the most powerful open source game engines in existance |

MMORPG Character Monuments ...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest... |
Blender has a lot of options but it is very clunky. Has a hard learning curve, but those who can stick with it will be happy in the end. Torrential |
