Heya.  Just started playing about a week or so ago and I like it a lot!  SE has managed to create an MMO with the spirit and storyline of a traditional FF game.  I like that I have to find a party to progress through the game, something I normally wouldn't bother with.  Tactics are also required and I think it's making me a better overall player, which is awesome.  I get a greater sense of accomplishment with FFXI too.  It's managed to pull me away from my primary MMO since I started playing (Who's name I won't mention because it's bashed enough already, lol. And no it's not WoW)  I could go on, but you guys already know why the game is great.  Look forward to playing with some of you!

Oooo Oooo, I just thought of a question I had.  The expansions,  are they max level only or can you start them whenever?

You can start them whenever...except for Zilart pretty much. In which you'd have to be at least rank 6.

Hehe, it's so good to hear someone liking FFXI, it's been awhile since people loved it or expressed on the forums....

I went back to FFXI twice, but everytime I started, i felt so lonely, no1 to play with and such, so i quit... sadly...

None *require* you to be max level. Generally, there's something substantial in each of the expansions there for people as low as 30. Rise of the Zilart is actually pretty much *required* at 25, as just about everybody 25-30 levels in the jungles of Elshimo, and that's an expansion area; can't go there if you don't have Zilart. As far as the main storylines go, Zilart requires you to be Rank 6 to start it, which means you'll be 55-60 at least unless a high level killed the Shadow Lord for you to get you Rank 6. You'll need to be at least that level to start doing the Zilart missions, too, unless, again, you let a high-level carry you. Chains of Promathia starts out with missions where you're capped at 30, and moves the cap upwards as you move along. You'll pretty much need to be at least at the level cap to do these; high-levels can't do these for you, they'll be capped too. Treasures of Aht Urhgan requires you to be at least 50, and you can start it at that level, but you'll need to be higher level as you move through the missions. There's some nice rewards to be had for just starting things out at 50, though. You'll pretty much need to be max level to *finish* any of these, though.

/em hopes Focus*Bankai isn't holding his breath on the L2 part...

But yes, it's awesome to see the difference in prices now on FFXI since SE's been taking serious action against RMT and related activities. And it does seriously make companies like NCSoft who claim they're fighting RMT look ridiculous.

And to the OP - Welcome! Glad you're enjoying FFXI! Damn... it's so rare to see so positive a review from a new player so early on. My experiences of the early game from other people has always been "when does it pick up?". Good news is, it does. A good friend of mine is new to the game and is really enjoying it alot. He's brought another friend to the game already, with a few more to follow. That's awesome, since I'm going to have the chance to help out some more new players get used to the game... something I enjoy.

So... /welcome!

What server are you on by the way?
