Whats that Taco smell? |
Eweeee...they said the evil woooooord
Instanced.
I hope, WH doesnt turn out to be fully a small scale affair,...that would indeed suck-eth,
I am hoping the game will, at least, have battles in the scope and range DAOC had in its first two years of being released. 200vs200vs200+.(merlin server)..was awesome. thats gaming! crap flying at you from all sides..not knowing when the next attack(s) or death(s) came from.
I truely hope its not just a bunch of 32vs32 or 64vs64 WoW/Battlefield1942 maps;(.....or even worse - 1 group vs 1 group....Blah..thats just lameness to its fullest. Totally sucks and gets boring REAL fast when your playing against a foe that you KNOW and EXPECT every single specific attack(s)/defens(es) to come from...blah thats like playing checkers or tic-tac-toe
That would horrendously suck
-eth.

Originally posted by Tolwynn Well if you had bothered to read anything about this game other than what MMORPG puts up you would know that the whole game is not instanced, PvE or PvP. Certain parts of PvE will be instanced such as boss fights and such, and there will be isntanced PvP. However in the case of PvP you can not take over other factions territory soley by instancing or world PvP, but a combination of all the types of PvP and even questing.
I think of the capital sieges and taking over territory as one really big Public Quest that the whole realm takes apart of.
As for the people who consistently compare it to WoW, they are just trying to get a rise out of WAR fans. If any one with any ability to see and think looks at 2 screenshots of WoW and WAR together they look nothing alike. They are using a beefed up version of the engine used in DAoC, and DAoC did not have graphics like WoW. WoW is very much a stylized cartoony graphics where WAR is a stylized graphics.
I think Mythic will pull off a fun RvR game, as long as people arent expecting the second coming of the great MMO golden age they wont be disappointed. As Paul likes to say "Fun, you FU$%ers." |

As a result of WoW being the most recent big MMO everyone who plays the next generation of MMOs will compare it to WoW. The same thing may happen when WAR comes out. 10 years down the road when the next line of MMOs comes out everyone may be comparing them to WAR...I know it happened to my friends and WoW. They compared them to DAoC/EQ. It's human nature to look for patterns/similarities...why do you think stereotyping comes so easily ?
Anyway, I think that WoW certainly had some good features but they also had some bad ones too. There is nothing wrong with WAR improving on both WoW's good/bad features. With RvR and a constantly changing world hopefully endgame won't top out like it did in WoW. Options for endgame = success. |

My shield arm is getting tired from fending off all of the AoC gremlins. |
In www.only-war.com they have a sticky stating that mythic has stated that "active" community members might get a beta pass. I havent seen this on warhammeralliance.com but Im sure if they have been told that they can suggest people they wont. |

Originally posted by Saerain To add to some previous pictures, I'll put some artwork side by side with screenshots. :) Enjoy.
Those two are pretty similar. Now for some Goblins.
And some Orcs.
I think they're doing a pretty good job with keeping with the Warhammer artwork. However what they're definitely not doing is mimicking their really old artwork. Check some of this stuff out.
So i think they're doing a pretty good job of picking out the good artwork from games workshop and putting it into the game. :) |

I think what I meant was that Warhammer has been a tabletop game AND a roleplaying game. The tabletop aspect allows them to draw on hundreds of pre-existing units for mobs, NPC's, etc. The WFRP stuff gives them quests, a more built up storyline to draw on...
Forgotten Realms has reams of material to draw on but the choice of Eberron for the official MMO setting shows that there's licensing issues there. Harnworld is indeed an old setting, but it's traditionally light on magic, so much so that I think there's less to attract the traditional fantasy MMO player. World of Darkness has probably got a roomful of books... but the way the storyteller system works, I'm not sure it will transfer to the massive game scale so well... Mages in WoD can pretty much alter reality, after all. I think that will get reined in pretty hard in a balanced race/class system.
I just think that Warhammer is possibly the one IP that is best suited to becoming a hugely successful MMOG.
I mean, you can just see how well WoW does and it has a dim shadow of the lore Warhammer has.
