i said it in my last thread and i shall say it again.....until i see the official contract that SoE have with FLS regarding who has what control of which part of the game im always gunna worry where this game ends up.....i dont care how many times FLS has to shout out the fact.....

if you people wanna believe what your told then you are the type of people that think we went into iraq because of weapons of mass destruction and has nothing to do with oil

will this put me off tho?

it leaves me in 2 minds i guess i will decide when it comes out or if i get a chance with beta.

I don't get this mentality - the 'worry' mentality expressed above and elsewhere.  Do you think SoE secretly contracted to take over the show or something?  I mean if you hate SoE for what they have done then I can understand - but stating the reason is that you worry they will medle things up when the originators of the idea have said that isn't the case makes little sense to me.  I mean you try it and if it is not what you like then what is the big deal - and if you like it who cares whether it was SoE or FLS that made what you hate?  I suppose what you are trying to express is that you are afraid you will love it but that over time SoE will secretly influence things for the worse.  perhaps, but that can happen in any game - any game can develop in a direction you hate so that seems a non issue in terms of who the publisher is.

Like I said, boycott SoE if you want - but the worry part of it makes no sense.  I agree on boycotting games they develop becuyase I hate the way they build and manage games.  But a game they publish is built an managed without them so is worth trying as I see it.  If you still feel uneasy about SoE then do what I did with VG - give them a short leash and if things aren't as you think they should be then leave (as I did with VG before renewing).  All I am saying is that for all you know FLS or any development house could make a bad game, or make bad changes after launch - the fact that SoE is publishing doesn't affect this.

i fully agree with what your saying but i still think you are missing the point im trying to make...you say ''the fact that SoE is publishing doesn't affect this'' how can we all be sure that this is all they have....thats all that FLS has told us...should we believe them?? where is the hard evidence that this is all they have there hands on? so i keep saying till i see the day that the contract is slapped in my face for full proof......

When was the last time a company actually published a contract for public viewing?  Not going to happen.  You'll just have to settle for "wait and see,"  and until we ship you can believe us or not as you like.   Of course it's not like we've lied to you in the past.  We've been WRONG before, that's for sure, like when we thought we'd ship in 2005 !  Ah that ship date, I remember it fondly.   But I think you'll have a hard time finding any instance where we've out and out lied.  We're much more likely to just say nothing until we have a real answer to give you than just make crap up.   And having learned that lesson about ship dates we're being cautious this time around.

But we're not going to publish our contracts for  your personal edification.   Sorry.

In adding to what Rick said how do you know Age Of Conan isn't secretly made by SoE?  Sounds ridiculous but really no more than what you say.  FLS has spent years developing PotBS and SoE just became part of the picture, for publishing, as is not at all uncommon in the industry.  Example:  EA Games and Crysis.  I hate EA, I would never buy an EA made game as they just push out garbage to meet deadlines and to fill market niches.  But I know Crysis was made by CryTek and that EA is just publishing so I won't have a second thought about buying the game as I know the economics of the industry dictates that the FLSs and CryTek's of the world need the EA and SoE's of the world to get their product into the distribution channels.

Business, especially the publication business, is full of necessary evils.  I recall in some 'making of' or 'history of' or some other 'something of' Star Wars Lucas was telling his story as he loves to do and in an unusual bit of self realization he noted something very profound.  A big part of making and getting Star Wars in theaters was a struggle for him, a struggle against the establishment and the movie industry's version of publishers, the studios and their monopoly on distribution channels.  After SW IVs success he had the power to bypass that system and in the second trio of movies where made and distributed exclusively by Lucas.  He noted that while this was the 'dream' he had as a young filmmaker that the irony of things was that in order to realize that dream he had to become the very monolith he detested.  Again, necessary evils.

Can we get some info though on the release/ship date?  is it still looking like a ship of this fall or are the rumors of 2008 more true than not?  I think most would be happy if "this fall" was clarified or reinforced.

This fall, or more generally this year is the stated plan - I would imagine they will not clarify further until a specific date is set but at the same time a slip is possibly as closed BETA is underway.
