So SOE has (as in present time) set up the network, servers, hired people(?) without gotten a release date from FLS. You saying that hey now we are done where our game? That would be like the pizza guy showed up without me ordering it in first place. And uhm they get their fair share of the subrevenue just to do that in the end. I ask again what investment are you talking about? |

Can you give us general details of SOE’s involvement? Williams: Sure. We’ve handed over the delivery pieces to SOE, which are retail distribution, localization, marketing, billing, and the launcher. We handle building the game, running the game (the actual servers), community management, and customer support. From this article: http://mpogd.com/news/?ID=2797 |

Originally posted by Orphes Sorry to disagree here, but Sony isn't running our servers. They're not buying the hardware, setting up the network, hiring staff to monitor it, or anything else. We're running our own servers, both in the US and in Europe (the areas where SOE has distribution rights). And just because there hasn't been an announcment to the public doesn't mean that FLS and SOE haven't been discussing the release date! It's not like you can run a marketing campaign without knowing the target release date. Of course, this being software, it's possible that the release date will slip. But Sony would much rather we slipped and released a solid game than release before we're ready and tank. Sigil (and I repeat for the people who keep saying otherwise, SIGIL) picked the release date for Vanguard. Sony wasn't happy about it, because they knew the game wasn't ready. But Sigil controlled the release date and chose to ship because they were broke. Sony has been doing their best to pick up the pieces from that fiasco, but they have no interest in our following Vanguard's lead. Much as it might surprise some people to hear it, Sony would actually prefer to have a successful game and make money than not. I know, I know, it's hard to believe that a company might want to make money instead of go broke, but it's true. Rick Saada - FLS Dev & EPFBM |

WTF is a pocket monster?!? Think about it for a while. |
This thread needs to end. It's getting out of hand IMHO. |

Secondly, i must admit that I'm surprised that a higher up from a game company is coming to the boards and interacting personally. It's actually kind of nice to see. I have high hopes for this game. At first I was not interested at all because i thought the whole pirate thing wasn't for me, but after reading through the site I'm actually excited for this game. I was really worried when I found out SOE was involved but after reading the little Sony FAQ you put together I'm actually hoping this game becomes incredible. |
