Don''t Panic!!!!

The devs seem to have gone back into hiding for the year.....

maybe try their boards.

/shrug. Who knows with MMO devs. They claimed that beta would be starting this summer.........still waiting to see how that works out for them. I'm gonna go out on a limb and figure they are not as far along as they led us to believe a few months ago.

I rather have it and don''t need it, than need it and don''t have it.

In the middle of 2008 roughly, maybe sooner, maybe later.

Beta release is said in the interviews to start in a few months, but as stated earlier.

A few can be anything between 3-11 months.

Hopefully it wont take that long.

Fact: SOE is Evil impersonated.

It's been stated in the official forum that BETA has been pushed back... way back... so i'm sure the release will be a ways off.

The deal is:  Icarus is creating a complete game engine from the ground up and they apparently bit off more than they could chew.  But we have faith in the crew.  They'll pull it all together.  It's just going to be I would suspect mid-2008 before BETA release.

Heh - another delay?

FE looks interesting, but given that their lead dev said less than a month ago that beta was likely before the end of 2007, I hold little faith that FE will go gold in 2008 either. I wonder if it is because they are trying to develop middleware tools at the same time as developing a MMO that continually sees them push back their expected release dates.

For a game like FE, this has to matter. I don't know who is funding them, but Icarus will have to put the game out at some point to sate investors. If (miracle of miracles) FE gets released in 2008, it's going to be up against some pretty big titles in AoC and WAR while it still hasn't managed to achieve any sort of market recognition. I post in lots of places and the most common response to FE is "never heard of it".

So yeah, haivng a list of nice sounding features is great, but Icarus needs to get FE done before it is buried by bigger titles. Unless they have the cash to do an EVE, of course.

It says more about you then you'd ever say about yourself.

I'm sure that Icraus will get their act together and turn out a fine product that will do us all proud.

Well as to funding it FE is a company spun off of Icarus so the funding is still pretty much in-house. And since Icarus has already sold the development tools to at least a couple of buyers I would say they have some money to continue with. Besides, as stated before many times, better they take their time and do it right than rush it and launch with crap like most games.

If this game isn't vaporware, it may as well be.  By the time it comes out it wont even be relevant.

Sad but probably true. I can't even remember how long this game has been floating around.

Games have been anounced, betaed, launched, peaked, and platued off in the amount of time it takes these guys to put out a couple of newsletters. What was the last one, March 07? Its been 5 months since the last time I replied on this thread...and still no news at all.

i take it you guys don't visit the official forums much.

taken from www.fallenearth.com:

question of the week nov. 14:

Math is hard! But Questions of the Week? They're easy. Lead developer Lee Hammock tells you what you want to know in another installment. Also, check out the Friday fiction snippet at the end!

This week we have some questions about weaponry, armor, and world issues. Currently in the office, we're plugging away at Credit Bend, Haven, Picus Ridge, Redfield, Old Kingman Prison, and Junk Fortress, in addition to some work involving the balancing of treasure tables and harvesting nodes.

1) I know the gun ranges are MASSIVELY toned down but is a meter an actual meter in game? Or is it some weird distance?

A meter is a meter is a meter. Our game uses centimeters as its basic unit of measure, so 100 meters is 100 meters.

2) Will there be rifled "shotguns?”

Yes. Most shotguns come in two models, shotguns and slug guns which fire over-sized slugs from a rifled barrel.

3) How effective will rifle-class shotguns be?

Basically, we have a formula we use on all firearms based on range, ammunition, rate of fire, desired length of combat, etc. that helps us determine weapon damage. Shotguns that fall under the Rifle skill have short range compared with other rifles, but have a damage bonus to make up for it.

4) Can you specifically create an item with extra materials etc, to improve a statistic of your choice?

Many non-consumable items, such as weapons, have upgraded versions you can make that have better abilities including bonuses to skills, but this depends on the type of item. For example, a corkscrew will never get you a bonus to Melee combat because it's not well-suited for use as a weapon, whereas a swords gets you a +5 bonus to Melee (
