Is there any room ingame for people that enjoy crafting, mining or other support roles?

Well, there's mining - but you're limited to inferior grade ore unless you'll venture into unsafe space. And then you're a major target for gankers.

So you can play the entire game in a safe space if you're willing to settle for subgrade items/ore. Or you can take a risk of getting killed ( and you'll be killed...a lot.  ) and go for the better stuff. Up to you.

Yes... and your ship, and your equipped modules, and some of your skillpoints if you don't have a proper clone.

EVE has the ultimate death penalties.

Which illustrates a perfectly good life lesson for EVE, Don't put all your eggs in one basket. keep your income spread out and losses are usually quite manageable. As for OP, without miners and manufacturers what would us shooters use to blow each other up?

I dont know that your question has really been answered yet, so let me try.

Eve is very wide open. Yes, the game is pvp oriented and let me tell you I've never gotten any thrill from pvp like I get in eve. But there is Empire space which you cant really be bothered with getting shot at. Some corps make their living entirely in empire. ya there is low end ore and npcs there but its safe. But there are tons of industrial corps that always need more miners and industrialists. I know I used to really get into that stuff and spent about 4 or 5 months in empire with my friends in a corp. We mined togethor and had our own industrial base. We built and sold ships to the public.

The game is hard to pick up at first, but  I suggest trying the free trial and getting into a corp as soon as you can.  People are pretty helpful and you'll soon find out that the game is what you make of it.

thank you all for the input.  I tried to do the free trial but it keeps coming back as an error-can not process request.  Sigh..........

"In EVE, no one gives a damn about a fair fight." - chafin

Well, so far I've played for about 2 weeks and earned myself a couple of tier 1 frigs and a cruiser..... and have not fired a shot in pvp.... so yes, lots of room for pve in the game.

That said, i'm training up my skills for an eventual move to 0.0 space since Eve's all about PvP....

Mastaccolli,

As you can see in this thread, the trial referral system is having problems right now. In the mean time, you can still get a trial key by using the MMORPG.COM offer or by making your email in your online profile visible so I can send you a Buddy Key.

Now to answer you initial question:

Be aware that in EVE, the economy in the game is 99% player driven. Everything that is used by players on a regular basis is harvested, processed, researched, manufactured, distributed, and sold by other players. It is a very rich environment for 'business', that even extends beyond simple goods and into services, where enterprising players have found creative ways to op
