I generally avoid playing evil characters since I don't like Freeport in any way, but I spent about 4 hours playing the new Neriak last night.

Have to say, I'm really enjoying this new upgrade. It fits better with the established world than does Faydwer. In just about every way, actually.  EoF might as well be a different game enitrely and not EQ2 at all. But Neriak fits. and without the horrible brown colors, and sharp corners around every bend, of Freeport. For the first time, I'm really enjoying playing a Dark Elf (don't much like the Arasai. But then, I don't much like the Fae either even if the Safe Fall bonus is useful).

Moo.

Faydwer seemed to fit in fine with everything else to me, but maybe that's the EQ1 player in me coming out. I am always happy to see old places resurfacing. As a long time resident of EQ1 Neriak, I am intrigued to hear it is in EQ2 now.

I used to love Neriak back in the EQ1 days. Both playing & also entering there when guildies were doing their original Epic 1.0.

Maybe i'll come across a merchant that sells Hate stones in the future. Would love to see the return of Plane of Hate.  My fav raid zone before it was revamped. (Apart from when mobs aggroed you through walls of course  )

I couldn't agree more, but like you, perhaps that's the EQ1 in me.

I haven't had the chance to do much yet with the new Arasai I created - kids, renovations, and all that happy junk - but my initial impression is favorable!!  I hope to be able to spend more time digging into Neriak this weekend.  And it's incredibly refreshing to be able to play on the "dark side" and not have to loot at the depressing backdrop of Freeport!

Color me pleased.

An interesting point of interest:

If you climb to the tallest room in the tower where the queen resides, you will see 2 pictures hanging on the wall in the Queens' bedroom.  Those 2 paintings are actually screenshots of old neriak from EQ 1.  It was very amusing to discover while exploring the city.

OMG, you haven't seen the tiniest bit yet. This IS beyond ANYTHING I've ever seen in a game. Neriak is the most impressive city in ANY GAME, ever. Attention to detail, nuances, how people act and socialize in the city, AMAZING. I HOPE they upgrade the older cities with some of the same things, but YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE IT. Sit in one of the classes while the teacher is teaching, turn up the sound, and turn up the graphics. If you don't have wet panties/briefs, then I'll eat them.

SoE designers have outdone themselves and pretty much anybody else. Neriak has soul, life, FEELING. OUTSTANDING!!

It is cool but I miss the old neriak more... just one man's opinion.  Atleast they should of brought back some of the Neriak music and redid or something.
Eventhough I do like the new neriak zone but I don't care so much how they did "darklight woods" wtf, is that-- and no more fing flying fairy races pls thx.

When in danger or in doubt, run in circles scream and shout.

Yep, Neriak has turned out to be a nice little town, and the price sure can't be beat (free is good!). I, too, love that it's an evil city without the terrible color & look of Freeport. That city needs to be completely redesigned. :P It feels good to get my evil characters out of FP and into Neriak.

Of course it's also a fun stroll down memory lane.

Unless I'm on crack or something, some of the original Neriak music is in there in an edited form. It's just not played through the whole city (as far as I've noticed). Try the Spires of Innoruuk area.

I've also enjoyed some of the voice acting that I've come across. I'm surprised that they've put so much work into a free update. I could do without trips into Nektulous, but that zone's to be expected...

I haven't noticed the screen shot "paintings", I'm going to have to check that out later.

As far as EoF is concerned, Kelethin was more EQ to me than all of EQ2 before it, but as others here I spent a lot of time in EQ1.

Definitely have to get some sleep now....

The battles are no longer physical, its from within.

lol Freeport does not need to be redesigned. You need to adapt to its style.
