There are many private servers running mirrors of Wow and other MMORPG's  (probably illegally).  Wouldn't it be a blast if we could start up AC2 like these people are doing?  What would it take?

No one has ever been able to completely clone the AC servers as far as I know. There was a "free" AC1 server, but all you could do was walk around. There were no monsters, npc's, or portals.

"Impossible is Nothing"

I actually recall someone having an AC1 server and it was workable but he was forced to have it closed down because info on it got out and Turbine threatened to sue.

So I think if you make a AC2 server, keep it to friends.

I really don't think Turbine would have a problem with it....  they shut it down.  Besides they took everyone for a ride when they put out an expansion a few months prior to detonation.  Why wouldn't they give out the code or whatever it is to start up a server?  UNLESS they have future plans for an AC2 relaunch.  Otherwise lets tell turbine to give back to those of us who miss AC2.    I would even play it knowing that there would be no future content updates or upgrades.  New content updates were probably half the reason AC2 was closed down.  It is a big investment to put out new content. Turbine could start a server up and allow free play to AC2 for all those who subscribe to AC1.   This is exactly the stuff Turbine should be doing to keep interest in the AC franchise.

The code to AC2 wasn't given out because DDO and LotRO use the same engine, which Turbine sells. There is no reason to open up AC2 again. DDO and LotRO are their main concern now.

I bought myself a parrot. The parrot talked. But it did not say, "I''m hungry,"... so it died.

the thing is they just need to make AC1 free to play I know there trying to bring it back and all but the best thing to do is just make it f2p

Yeah I think Turbine really wants to forget about AC2.   AC2 gets a much worse rap then it deserves.   There was so much behind the scenes that the game was doomed before it even started.  There are so many worse games out today that aren't even close to the caliber of AC2 yet they didn't have the disastrous rushed launch and lack of advertising.

I always found it amazing how much Blizzard took from AC2 but to their credit they didn't fubar up their launch and executed where AC2 couldn't.   But if AC2 hadn't come, LoTRO would never be the polished great game that it is now.

My biggest hope is that Turbine can leverage all this LoTRO goodwill and translate some of that over to the AC franchise.    Hopefully down the road they can include AC or a next chapter of it into some sort of package with LoTRO and DDO.    AC still is not known outside of the hardcore MMORPG community, whereas DDO and LoTRO can survive on IP recognition alone.   The need to get DDO back on track in the eyes of the average MMORPG player before they do anything with AC though.
