While this isn't truly a Help Wanted post, it seemed to be the best fit. We're currently working on developing the city for X-Shift, and I'm putting together a basic interface to list all of the city's locations and track its progress. If you're wondering how much of a pain this can be, go ahead and try it yourself...go on, I'll wait... Ok! To the point. I'm looking for some basic location ideas. The city is divided into districts; Uptown, Midtown, Downtown, Docks, Market Square, Park...and a few others that aren't really important at this point. What we're looking for are shop names, restaraunt names (to replace Restaraunt A, Restaraunt B, etc), bars, dance club, convenience stores, cafes, etc, etc. There will be research facilities, malls, and so on. I've also posted a similar message on our forums, but that was looking for more specific and detailed suggestions for major and influential organizations in the game. This is not, its just a "Name that Diner" sort of a thing. If you'd really like to get detailed, be my guest. Post sketches or concept images of what you think the place should look like. X-shift is a futuristic, cyberpunk setting, so bear that in mind when dreaming up ideas. Basically, look around any city, see what types of places they have, then generate a name for it. oh fun little thread. lets see:
Danny's Lunch Bar just an ordinary name y'kno. you know one of those classic corner diners? like one of those. Sensation a club that plays hard techno. Zone Zero another club. Black & White a piano bar. hence the name. :) Smoky Voky a jazz bar. hence the weird, yet cool name, which combines smoke with nonsense.  Ridicilous! stand-up bar. has open mic nights at fridays from 21.00 to 23.00. the big comedian Johnny Dimp is performing on saturdays! Eat or Die! Where tablemanners are enforced by sentry-guns. Carl's Carnage / Carl's Carnery Where meat is rosted over a huge BONFIRE in the centre of the resuraunt!!!! Noodle Poodle A company that hire out Noodle-wagons, so chefs can pull around in the city and sell Noodle Poodle stuff. Your typical, cheap afterparty snack. That's all for now. Just tell me if you want more. :) And if you use any of these, I'd behappy to make a litle scetch of it. |

I'll most likely use them all except Eat or Die and Carl's Carnage. Those are just a bit over the top. Also, Noodle Poodle could be interesting, but may require some additional coding...and I'm not sure the pay off would justify it. My personal favorites are Black & White and Sensation. I may also change Zone Zero to Zero Zone...and model it after my favorite dance club in Minneapolis, "Ground Zero". Great ideas! Keep them coming. And yeah, I'd love to see some sketches if you have ideas. Thanks. |

411[could also be named in binary (0b110011011) ] - A hackers hangout where they meet and discuss recent happenings and such. Serials - A store where the latest technological equipment is bought. Bits n` Bites - Trendy night restaurant for the cyber crowd. A quick corner snackbar probably fits the name better though. Mainframe - Dance club + internet Cafe, The whose who of the computer underworld. Any computer terms you can think of pretty much; Power Supply, Ram, CPU, The kernel, Password could all be turned into various clubs, shops, or hangouts I imagine. Random telephone booths could be jack points for professional hackers, already phreaked and ready to go. I suggest looking at a game called "Uplink" has some great things that you could add to your world, that is, if you want a large hacker / phreaker element. If you need the full version or a run down on various features just give me a holla. If you need a volunteer contributor just ask. |
