I see where some people are all giddy SOE took over Vanguard. Well, "officially" took over since SOE was most likely pulling the strings since the jump. But why would anyone think SoE taking over will make this game any better? Because they have money? Because they have a large well known company? Because Smed said they would? What possible reasoning can there be? If history has shown us anything about this company and the joker who's in charge of the games is that they will do what they always do to games which is destroy them. SOE has a large stable of games of which none are worth playing. Maybe at one time like with SWG or EQ but not now, not after they get through with them. Does anyone honestly think things will be different now? Why? I know there's always a first time but does anyone who knows about the gaming world really believe this time will be any different? More like wishful thinking. You're not talking about a legitimate self respecting company here. Remeber who you're dealing with, this is Smedley and SOE, the gaming worlds buffoons. |

Originally posted by sololocoRight now considering the following two facts alone, I don't see a whole lot of reason to be overly optimistic for Vanguard's growth: (1) Dave Gilbertson, who has been running Vanguard for the last six-months, is STILL running Vanguard. (2) Vanguard's staff has been cut in half, with an additional five including Nino and Butler shifted over to an all new project. Along with Smed's declaration about how all ideas will still come from within Vanguard's team and those outside of it will play a hands-off approach; it seems to me that what we have is still the same decision-makers, just with half as many people to execute their choices. Only the exact opposite scenario would've come off as positive to me; SOE implanting their own management and development staff. I mean, if Sigil had 100+ employees and were having to borrow designers and artists from SOE just 4-5 months ago, exactly why should I be optimistic about Vanguard's future now with the team cut in half? 'course, one could reason that now that Vanguard's team is apart of SOE, human resources could probably be drawn upon from other sources akin to Beta 4-5 times. But again, Smed said they won't influence the ideas of the existing team, or rather what's left of it. |
