Today is Final Fantasy XI Online's 5th birthday.
The game went live 5 years ago today, and still has roughly 500,000 subscribers. From what I've seen not too many games last that long with numbers like that. Exceptions being Lineage, Lineage 2(Have they hit 5 years yet?), and well, WoW will definately have way more at their 5 year mark. I don't know why people bash the game so much, apparently half a million people like it enough to keep playing after 5 years. |

Alot of people bash it because the pvp is almost non existant and it's hard to get a party if you aren't the right job. I played for a little while on the ps2 because I didn't have a computer. That is the ONLY reason I played. I can't say however that I don't miss the game. I liked the graphics and the story line, the community was excellent, especially the japan players who let me party with them when I only knew/was capable of typing in roomaji. I must admit it was very annoying though.... I wanted to be a monk, but you can basically forget getting a party with that class. So I switched to whm/blm and blm/whm and always had parties, It was ok but the pvp aspect was just never there. So in the end, it was possibly the best pve game I have ever played, but to me an mmo isn't complete if I can't have both worlds pvp/pve. I would play a ff13,14,15 or whatever will be the next mmo. Oh and my favorite part of the game is that most final fantasy fanboys were forced to stay away from 11. That might have been the best part of the game :) |

I only played FFXI for 2 years, yet the 2 years I had I enjoyed made a lot of friends that I ended up meeting in real life.
Though I think it's a lot different then when I left, HAPPY BIRTHDAY YAY. Edit: Btw; heard rumors of FFXI-2, however how true these are, not sure. |

Wow 5 years already? I remember being in the closed beta and being shunned by the japanese community at the time for taking over their servers. Didn't really get into the game after that, though i love the final fantasy world.

G'damn you FFXI an your new expansion come this winter! I try to get away an you pull me back in with chocobo breeding/racing!
Seriously though, if they did a major overhaul to FFXI's graphic engine, i'd be playing it for another 2 - 3 years. |
