All that begins must ends, but the end of one thing is the start of another...

I believe that the lack of interesting mechanics is one of the reason of players not liking pvp. I'll list some victory conditions coming out of my mind, help me to expand it and hopefully find a new way to get players interested in. The balance between several objectives on a map, makes for more dynamic, imprevisible and strategical battles, which equals fun for me. Hopefully, it may possible to make these objectives linked to characters' progression or quests (pve). Here we go :

  • Death match (kill all opponents)
  • Capture the flag (returned flags earn points or bonuses)
  • Kill the king (like in chess)
  • Conquer (must own strategic points or explore)
  • Exploit (must own more ressources)
  • Survive (time limit)

That's all !

I don't know. Arenas and battlegrounds make things more balanced because you avoid outnumbered situations on one side. I think that it will be very difficult to make this work in an open world without implementing some weird mechanism. Unless it is done on purpose by highly skilled players to prove that they are really strong, I don't see the point.
