I am new to FFXI, I just brought the game after reading many positive things about it I decided to give it a go, however I am having trouble deciding on a server to choose, can anyone recommend a good server for a new player to FF?

I don't think it really matters too much, if it's important to you, take a look around here.. http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?cat=67 I can't say how much of a difference that will make but.. you know. |

Since you are placed in servers randomly, each server has close to the same amount of players, although soon you'll be able to choose your server when you create your character, not sure when they are putting that in though. In any case welcome to ffxi! |

Originally posted by JPR1985 Actually, you're not placed randomly anymore. SE have added the ability to select your server at character creation. And, in time, are going to be implementing server transfers. This is somewhat recent, so there are some out there who may not be aware of it. To answer the OP... each server is load balanced (up 'til now) and there's really no one "best" server to start on. I'm on Pandemonium and, since I've come to know alot of faces/names on there over time, it's the only server I'd want to be on. But for someone starting out, no decision is necessarily better or worse than another. The one thing that might be a factor,t hough, is the overall server economy. Things are more expensive on some servers than on others. Good luck in Vana'diel! |

Originally posted by WSIMikeIm on Pandemonium too, hmmm, your obviously stalking me =l As for "best server" only two answers for that, each server is populated therefore making it impossible to say which is best, and two : The one your friends are playing on, having friends in this game makes it alot easier. |

I have to somewhat agree and disagree with the comments made above.
In terms of achievements there is no doubt that Siren is the best server around. I am not saying this because i happen to be from that server i am just mentioning it. Jap and NA ballista royale world champions and the fact that its one of the only servers left still undefeated in besieged. So in that sense ,... Siren HOWEVER i strictly believe there is no best server. For each person the best server would be where they can socialize quicker and get help developing their characters. Also a notable thing would be to check the economy of servers if you want to start cheap and have no preferance in which server you want to start. All in all the game remains the same wherever you start on. You still have to level till around 10 and suffer the dunes. So good luck. |

Well all the servers are pretty much the same like everybody else says, however, there are few servers that I would stay away from unless you have friends there. The servers that other people moved to, I think one server is Remora and other server not sure. The reason is, there are more long term players in that server, so that means before you can do end game stuff, you have to have multiple 75 jobs because others will have those who want to be in end game linkshells. just a suggestion, I will be trying to go back to Remorea because I have friends there.
