"It always funny until someone gets hurt... and then it''s just hilarious." -- Bill Hicks

There has been a lot of talk concerning the performance issues Vanguard has, even on high-end systems.
I was wondering if these issues are comparable to EQII? Is it better worse?

Might not be a bad idea for players to post their specs and say if it runs smoothly or not. Plus some explanation -where in the game, at all times or not, ...-

And please no trolling or fandom nonsense. Keep it informative.

AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...

From my experience it was about even.  EQ2 looks better at lower settings then VG does.

Nvidia 7950 PCI-E
AMD Athlon 64x2 (4xxx, cant remember)
300gb HD (not sure of the speed)
2gb Ram

Not quite the highest setting in both VG and EQ2 would get me anywhere from 40-60 fps in the wild with others nearby.  In towns I would get mid 20s to mid 30s fps with others around.  Grouping in a dungeon was about the same as being in a town with higher jumps in FPS depending upon the number of things running around.

There is hitching when crossing zones in VG, but it's less then you would wait for a zone to load in EQ2.

Also my power supply is way to low for the card I'm running, but the only game that it's been a problem for was Lineage 2.  L2 accually shut my card down.  VG and EQ2 just make it hum like a jet fighter.

Edit:  Also, I never crashed in VG but did in EQ2.  Enough so in EQ2 that I came to expect it at least once every play session.  I'm not sure if that's my power supply or not, but always had a suspicion that it had something to do with my system and the shadows in EQ2.  But then I'm paranoid, and for good reason.

When the well runs dry, we''ll know the value of water.

I have a GeForce 8800 gtx card, so I am not sure how reliable you will consider my information to be.  I have friends in EQ 2 (most of whom I met through Vanguard) and based on their opinions Vanguard has better graphics.

Based on my experience with EQ 2's trial, both of them, there is no question that the graphics are much nicer in Vanguard and have a more authentic feel that I personally look for.  Further, at Vanguard's release, EQ 2 performed incredibly better.  Today, I do not lag at all in Vanguard unless I am near crowded cities (I also lag in WoW in crowded cities).  Overall, I would not be surprised if the performance in EQ 2 is better than Vanguard's but the graphics in Vanguard I thought are much better.

Another poster mentioned crashing, and I used to crash in Vanguard all the time at release.  Today, that is not the case.  I think crashing can happen in all games, though.

3.0 P4
2gb ddr
geforce 7950 512mb

I can run EQ2 on higher settings with much better performance than I can Vanguard. In Vanguard i drop 20-30fps ever time I go near a town or settlement or dungeon. Not so In EQ2. This is one of the main reason I hope that SOE's involvement in Vanguard will be a good thing. I hope they can make improvements were the current VG devs seems to have become stuck.

I played EQ2 on a 6800, 2 gigs ram, AMD 4200 on HIGH quality for 30-40 fps consistently (even when in a group) with mild hitching (1-2 second lag when I enter a highly populated area).

I played VG with the same rig for 30-40 fps in the wild (on balanced settings, optimized)) , 10-15 fps in group with RIDICULOUSLY bad hitching (3-5 second lag when encoutering a new player, entering a new city, etc.).

Most of the performance issues I encountered were when objects had been loaded for the first time (especially players), since a lot of textures and such are loaded from the hardrive (it seems, since I'm no U2 engine expert).
