Title says it all, when are we going to see a game released that has "twitched" based combat like Mount and Blade? Yes i know Darkfall is suppose to have M&B style combat, which is great and I hope it comes out soon. Because if you have played mount and blade or watched a video you start to realize how much more skill there is based on your reaction, timing, and strategy compared to the same old auto attack mmorpgs...In mount and blade skill is 1st, not equipment.. What is your stance on this? Would u like to see an mmorpg combined with Mount and Blades twitch combat or would u rather see another game that has the over used auto attack combat?

BTW: At least Age of Conan is trying something totally new with their combat, but why is Warhammer, a promising looking PvP game have the same old auto attack mechanic?

Hell I'd be happy if M&B just had a regular multiplayer mode. I'm thinking 8 player capture the flag games with each player given enough gold to recruit and outfit mercenaries. You could take that further and do everything Counter-Strike style and award players money for every kill and flag cap. Or you could have places set up around the map that generated money at a steady pace for whichever team controlled it. The game would still have the feeling of being in a massive battle (especially near the end of a round) due to the NPC grunts trailing around their "commanders."

It would be a pain in the ass to code, but damn what a cool idea!

Twitch combat consumes bandwidth.  Especially in a massively multi-player setting.  Thats why most companies don't do it.  Whoever ends up hosting Age of Conan will realize that with all the information the server has to process.  Large Character Nodes, and twitch movement; then sending them to everyone in range.

However, Mount and Blade isn't as tough as everyone makes it out to be.  It can and should be done by a technical artist.  Simply you treat the horse and rider as you would a vehicle in other games.  With the exception that you re-use the same meshes, and as a result you have to code in something special for the bones at the root joint.

I really love the M&B combat system. Its twitch based, but not as much reflexes....you learn to "see" what gonna happend. And I cant think of a more fair combat system ever.  And its the way i beleved MMO combat should be, the first time i played  MMO.

Everybody should atleast try it..its free.

Try typing Mount & Blade in the search tab over at the official Conan forums, see the dev quotes on it. The Devs are big fans of the game and it has influenced some of them in their work on AoC.
