I voted no, but I wholeheartedly agree that a CHOICE (none, I, II, III, ect.) of a roman numeral at the end to add to the roleplay element would really cool. That would be the unique route just as long as people dont go running around screaming "I AM YOUR FATHER NUB" rofl. |

Numbers and l33tspeak are simply indicators of a singularly strange problem... the fact that there are large numbers of insecure young players who really want to play rpgs, yet feel they must appear "too cool" to do so. Until they realize that they cannot successfully pretend to be something they aren't, they will always find a way to undercut the environment of any game, whether you ban numbers in names or not. |

Along with numbers, I'd like them to make sure they didn't permit lower case first letters, so that people can't make names like 'xxConanxx' which is a technique I saw heavily used in Lineage 1 (and 2?)

Indeed. I am surprised that not many games has done this yet, only one or two that i have tried of over 60+ at least and that's way too low.
I do agree that roman numerals are great in a game such as this: Olaf VXI, Gustaf XIII (Swedish names ftw |

I voted no, but at the same time I would hate the see the naming system be as limiting and one dimensional as many other MMOs out there. Yes there are the childish gamers out there who pick foolish names and leet names, but there are also a lot of folks out there who use numbers, dashes, astrix, and whatever else they can so that they can get a name they like that has already been taken by another player. I can understand why people do that. Some folks are quite attached to their names and use the same name, or something very similar, in every game they play. Not being able to use their name would be a big turn off. So sometimes you have to be a little creative in order to get the name you want. So, in my opinion, a better system would be one that looks for uniqueness using more than one name. Have the system allow for at least a second name, a surname, and the combination of the two names is what determines the uniqueness of your whole name. This way players are much more lilkey to get a name they like and they far less likley to need to resort to "creative" spellings and the use of numbers and symbols to get their desired name. |

Public forums. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. |
If Age of Conan decides to go towards a roleplayer's vs PvPer's route.. then yes.. This would mean that on designated servers for Roleplaying... numbers are strictly.. NOT allowed... on PvP or 'Normal' servers... Numbers within the name can exist.. so long as they are not obscene or intentinally perverse.
I did however.. vote no.. just in case this is not the... well... case.. |
