"...planet earth is blue and there''s nothing I can do..."

I think it's been 10 years since I've seen any mainstream discussion on virtual reality game programming.  As I've read these forums over the past few months it's clear that a lot of us have found the current MMO world rather stagnant with too many similarities leading to boring repetitive gameplay.  I've always believed that some day (long after I'm gone unfortunately) that MMOs would be played in VR, and ultimately in worlds where players would never need to leave.  Anyone know what direction VR gaming has taken lately?

None really. Ever since the VR and 3d systems all started giving people siezures. Also, the other areas of VR need to become mainstream before the game industry will even touch them. Things like voice recognition, data gloves with tactile response, 3d sound and 3d video with peripheral coverage.

Game designers won't expect people to purchase any special equipment just for their game. This will hit console games first, then, possibly other PC applications (including games) then, maybe, online games.
