In this first in a series of articles, Phil Maurer, the Operations Team Lead for the upcoming MMORPG, Sword of the New World joins Garrett Fuller to answer his questions.
Read the whole interview here. Cheers, |

Where's the interview again?

You didn't ask the most crucial question. "Are you going to suck at hosting this game as you have so many others in the passed?" |

Somewhere between the parries/dodges and half-answered questions, I think. Did he actually SAY anything? I mean, like stuff we didn't already know, or even mattered really. |
|

No he didn't say much, but at least they are talking again. Been a long time. I think this game would be fun if properly supported and translated.

WTF is a pocket monster?!? Think about it for a while. |
Do i like this game?
Sorry i cannot answer that at this time. Jeez. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

This game is worth a try, could get kinda confusing especially when you have a lot of players on screen since you can control 3 characters at once. But once you get 30+ you pretty much have to afk level if you want to continue and enjoy playing.

Does all the asian games have the same artist? Characters always look the same. Looks bland. I think i'm done with asian MMO's. Especially if they utilize stalls to sell items and supa-malls to buy items with cash. |

I for one think that this mmo is the best mmo out of asia to date, and it's still in beta. I wan't wait to see the graphics overhaul and the new attainable PCs. I don't see GE keeping my interest for over a year but if they do happen to launch before AoC, WAR, or Darkfall I could definately see myself playing this until those games do come out. A big factor for me will be how they implement pvp in this game.

Jeez Garrett, why not ask him the one question everyone wants to hear, what about K2's dismal performance in the past? The shame of it is, it seems to be a pretty good game, unfortunately going to be run by a bunch of yahoos whose only aim in life is to exploit the playerbase. |

So after the link to the interview started working, I'm left with the following question:
Uh..where's the interview? Apologies, but why on earth did you even bother to post this, Mr. Wood? My interest in this title is vague at best, but that's not exactly an interview worth the screen its displayed on. So they have a proprietary graphics engine. Let me try not to be too sarcastic... That the game will scale well on low-end machines is possibly the only piece of information in the whole piece. |
|
|
Perhaps the interviewer could have asked a semi-useful question, like:
Hey, why are *all* asian MMOs either anime-esque or a bunch of white-haired pretty boys towing along a bunch of supermodels with over-sized jubblies jiggling about? (not that I mind over-sized jubblies flopping about) |

Have to agree. This guy answered "Cannot comment at this time" way too often. Especially to the controversial question, "Why the name change?" They don't know the reason? Then, this guy is the ops manager. They need to hire a community relations manager pronto.
Also, to the interviewer - the art style of the game is Baroque, not Victorian. This is based on 1700's, not 1800's. Just an FYI. Two good pieces of information: No Lineage II style grind Art engine scales I've been reading ever GE site I could find, and could never find clear comments on leveling. Here's hoping to get in the next crop of Singapore GE beta testing. |

chee, he couldn't even answer why they changed the name to SoTNW -_- that's the second most controversial topic D: |

"Sword of the New World"... Seriously, who the hell came up with that meaningless title? I have really tried to make any sense of these words but they just seem to be randomly put together.
How about calling it: "Big Potatoe Shines Bright" |

I advise everyone to play sGE and not bother with the K2 North American version. sGE is english too and it probably won't cost you a monthly fee. It will be released sooner also. sGE > SOTNW

I usually try to live life without regrets, but I pretty much entirely regret this user name. |
"first in a series of articles" - Thank heavens, this one was lacking. Phil treats the game like some sort of conspiracy.
To the person who mentioned the Asian art style: I do agree, the characters are pretty much becoming cookie cutters of bland, uninteresting archetypes. But I think with some people it's just matter of preference, I for one like my male protagonists to lack in the muscle dept. I played the sGE closed beta fairly briefly, and I have to say the gameplay is pretty fun. The game has an implemented style where you can leave your party grinding while you go out for a walk, etc - the downside to this being that while you're in this mode people can challenge your family to duels and kick you back into town with a loss on your little family ladder record (if you're there you can decline the duel, but it auto-accepts after a given time) also your party will not pick up gold/items - some might find that pointless, but I for one loved it. It seemed sorta geared to a casual player like me who might perhaps shower or go outside on occasion (just messing with ya, I'm virtually a hermit). Hope I answered any questions anyone might have, I only got to lvl 20, so I don't feel like I got really into the game. p.s.I have no experience with this company, but I'm really sad what seems to be such a lackluster group in charge. |
|
Is it just me, or is K2 network unable to pick good screenshots of the game? seriously imo, none of the screenshots do the game justice, the camera angles are all wrong and they make screenshots of unintresting things. I'm not intrested in the bare ground, I want to see the architecture. I have seen more gaming websites complaining about this.

Whoa... the post was updated. Someone actually awnsered the million dollar questions: Why the name change and Will we be able to play with SG players. One question missing... Will there be an IP block?
Thanks MMORPG for asking the first two and getting an anwser :).

GE while like all recent new games, has great wonderful innovative ideas....... Problem is, they butcher the other aspects of the game.
Pro: multi character is a major ++. It gives alot more versitility and combination of play. Con: The AI is plain retarded. Smart AI my @ss. Pro: Great graphics and i believe the best music and art ive ever seen in any MMORPG. Con: little character customization (atleast early on). Actually now that i think about it... there is NO character customization. (in terms of apperance ofcouse) The cons in GE's case are generally already established standard in other games. The odd fact is, i wonder why none of it is implemented. And reguarding a post inquring about the title "The Sword of the New World". The game takes place in the baroque period, quite close to the time of imperialism and when Europeans were making the 'New World'. And as a character in this New World, your the 'sword' (weapon) in this world. Hence the title. |
