Hello fellow programers, i´m kinda new in this so I am looking for some tips and help from the experts. I need to know which programs are good for doing this cuase I have no idea. But you may say I shouldn´t start of with something hard so can I help someone with there mmorpg? It´s cuase im about to explode becuase of all the ideas i have in my head so I need to release them, and no other way best for an artist to express them in a game so plz all you programers help me create an mmorpg so I can let go of all these ideas. You may even come to like the game...

here are some of the cualitys the game will have:

  • It has to be 3D cuase all fun games are 3D (I might need experts to help cuase thats kinda too advanced for me)
  • Yes, it will be PvP. But only in some areas otherwise you have to challenge.
  • It will take place in a midevil/Futuristic Topic
  • I will design the characters and worlds (with help of course)

The rest shall be decided in the middle of the building progress. Ok i hope you all help PLZ.

If your just starting to program now, you have alot to learn before you can make a mmo.

So i think if you get going now, in about 10 years you might be ready to program one.

Good Luck

"Vae Victus!"

My suggestion is to write down your ideas and save them as pitch docs. You're too inexperienced to make an MMORPG, just save your good ideas and put together the game on paper first. MMO's are not made on impulse. You seem to want to be a designer, not an artist or programmer.

To be a designer you need to be eloquent, well read and experienced in mythology, history and have good spelling skills. A degree in English as a major would be a plus, and then struggle to get into the industry by submitting design docs. I'm sorry to give you the harsh reality but no one can suddenly make an MMO. You can't suddenly make a side-scrolling game either since you lack the art skills, programming and knowledge of game design. MMO's are the biggest undertakings of any form of game development. I understand that this email will probably not dissuade you, rightfully so.

If someone told me I couldn't make a game when I was 9 years old and dreaming about it I won't have gotten where I am and haven't spent the last 8 years working on big name MMO's. So keep at it but realize that what you're looking to accomplish is not something you can do alone no matter how badly you want to do it. Write down your ideas, refine them, learn from other games and play them to analyze how things are done as well. Incorporate what you experience in your own designs and when you become a designer in a game company, pitch your game and with any luck you'll be lead designer on the next big MMO (in a few years down the line of course).

To create a 3D MMO you need 3 very important things.
1) Someone who knows how to code and knows the DirectX API (assuming the game is for windows.)
2) Someone who knows how to build 3d models and Textures.
3) Someone who understands Network theory and can build/design a networking model.

From what you have said you have no experience or knowledge with any of the above and thus have very little chance of succeeding. Your first step is to learn about computers. I don't mean learn how they work, you have managed to type this post so you must at least know something, but I'm pretty secure in my opinion to state that you don't ACTUALLY know any computer theory. Once you understand memory, graphics, CPU arcs.. you may be ready to move forward to networking. Now you need to learn how computers communicate, the protocols they use and why they use them. Once you have this down you need to focus on programming, finding out what suits your needs best and getting the required APIs down. At this stage you are ready to ask someone else for help.

If you bring nothing to the table other than a design which may or may not be good. Then you are essentially useless. Thousands if not millions of people THINK they can make a good game. It takes more than a thought to create a game, it takes time, knowledge and effort.

Go learn. Then maybe you will succeed! As the guy I quoted said, 10 years and you might be in with a chance.
