I have seeeerious doubts that this game makes it live. Most developers can barely handle the lag and latency from point and click. I've never played planetside, but I just have a hard time picturing how a game can be produced that has DOOM 3 graphics, fluid FPS playstyle, persistant world, and 100v100 battles. It seems like either something has to give, or this game will be in permanent beta. |

Without CSHD can't see a game producing those screen shots with multiple hit boxes and added function on the rpg side for 100 v 100, just an opinion. In a twitch game I cant see how its possible, but they are not the only developers currenty talking about mmofps on this type of scale so perhaps the technology is there. But most of us have played simple rpg's in avery crowded areas with this degree of graphics with the required cycles and have seen the laggy results. With an FPS those that load is A LOT LOT more. Still here's hoping. ----- |

Yeah, it seems like there are 10+ MMOFPS games that will be released in the next year. Yay, a welcome change from the high fantasy carebear crap we have been spoonfed.

Originally posted by Rytif So, you have seen these battles, experienced them? What’s your computers specs? What frame rate did you get? How many of the high resolution player models were on your screen at once? Anyone with even the tinniest knowledge knows that a FPS shuffles more data through a connection, faster, than a RPG with a cue based combat system. Compounded by multiple hit areas, equipment "slots" trajectories, vehicles, presumably the ability to jump, an inventory and ammo count.... That’s a crap ton of info being shuffled forth, and in a FPS, Packet loss is very bad, as well as ping. Seconds, and Milliseconds matter for game play.
So, instead of attacking me, why don’t you show me your proof that i am incorrect. The only part that i was incorrect was the advertisement of 100 x 100 players, witch, I don’t believe, and all i had said was I had not read that. I guess because i had not read that, my points and concerns are invalid. { Mod Edit } |

Originally posted by LandogarnerGah. Unreal 3 engine. Sorry, got my "3"s mixed up. :) I read what I had wrote just now and was like..... Quake 3.... are you serious? Did I really say that? My bad. Didn't mean to confuse. When the guy I was quoting said Doom 3, I was thinking of Unreal 3 and wrote Quake 3. :p So yeah. It's the Unreal 3 engine. All confusion aside. I apologize. :) EDIT: To Abhinanda: When they talk about the Hybrids they refer to them as "NPC"s that you fight against. --------------------------------------------- |

Well I've been looking at Huxley for a little while now. Nice graphic, very nice looking characters and towns. But who ever thinks it's an RPG is very wrong. If you take a good look at the information out there about it you see that it's like Battlefield2143 with an player trade system added and instead to using an lobby system, they've gone for an 3d version like GuildWars. All in all, it's Unreal T. with a bit of BattleField 2143 (character classes and player ranking system for access to better NPC seller items) and GuildWars (character trade and lobby systems), hate to say it "but thisn't an RPG in any shape or form, just another FPS with new feature and idea on old concepts. As an FPS game I personally think it might be worth getting, but will wait to make final view on buy when beta and demo come out. DragoFire |

Originally posted by Jarlo This is an example of the confusion in mmogs these days. PlanetSide is not a mmoRPG. When the point of the game is simply to run around and whack other players, it's not a mmoRPG. Devs should ignore players who can't tell the difference. |

Originally posted by Flummoxed RPG is not a combat system. RPG stands for Role Playing Game. You assume the role of a character in game and make the decisions for that character. Sure, planetside is an RPG. Planetside has skill trees, character advancement, and different gear you can equip. How is that different than your RPG? P.S. Very few people actually roleplay these days. I wish the industry would stop using the phrase Role Playing Game and start using Character Development Game. |

I agree with the above post. Take a golf game. Is that an RPG. Taking the role of a golfer e.g Tiger Woods. FEAR (fps) taking the role of a combat soldier to kill. An RPG. YES these are all RPG's. Planetside where you fight as soldier for army and Huxley will be and are MMOCDG\FPS- role playing games like Golf but with alot of players in which you shoot in first person view. Games like WOW, 9dragons and Vanguard (hate all of these) should be classified as different games. I.E something along the lines of MMOCDG's (Character Development Games - This is not a real title for certain games btw, just a good idead) as mentioned above. These are games inwhich a character is developed, skills are learnt etc. SECONDLY it does not matter if an CDG is not in 3rd person view or text based. Im sick of people going ohohoh its an MMOFPS because its in first person view - NO - its because the game designer wanted it that way so you could enjoy the game more. Lastly, MMOFPS in my opinion, is just an RPG, inwhich you kill someone with a gun in first perosn view with many more online player. For those who cant read long pasasges: FEAR, GOLF, RACING games= RPG's (you play the role of someone else) Planetside, Huxley = MMOCDG\FPS (You develop a character with a gun in your hand in First person view) WOW, 9dragons = MMOCDG (Develop a character the classic 3rd person view way with grinding and quests etc.) MMOFPS = Games inwhich you shoot people in first person view along with many more people (Massively Multiplayer Online) These are my personal views. I grant you yours may be different. |
