News Editor Garrett Fuller attended last week's Comic Con in New York. This, his first report from the show, is an interview with Jeff Anderson, the CEO of Turbine about their upcoming title, Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar.

At the NY Comic Convention I was lucky enough to get some time with Turbine CEO Jeff Anderson. Jeff and I spoke in depth about the upcoming launch of Lord of the Rings Online and what he hoped that the game would deliver. My overall impression of Turbine's LOTRO has always been a good one; a quality game for players who are fans of the stories. After learning more about the game this past weekend, my expectations have certainly risen. Turbine has also proven to be a company that cares about their players is hoping to reward them with LOTRO.

Jeff was quick to talk about the Founder's System in LOTRO that is available for players. No, it is not a game mechanic; it is a way of paying for the game. Jeff told me that he really wanted a way to reward players who got into the game from the beginning. The Founder's System not only allows you to pay $9.99 a month, but it will also allow you to keep your characters after open beta and into launch with the only catch being that the transfer character level cap is fifteen. Turbine sees the pre-orders as a way to not only reward loyal players, but give them a leg up in the game. Their hope is that this will help to build a community. If a player can reach level fifteen in beta and transfer that character to launch, they will have an impact right away. It gives them the ability to help other lower level players and build community relationships faster.

Just a note about 'Group Attacks', isn't this the same feature that EQ2 has with their combat wheel?  Also the player vs Monster Player feature could just be viewed as PvP. Its a neat implementation of PvP and honestly I havent heard or seen any of the advanced features of it.  Just dont think any of the things in LoTRo are new or groundbreaking.  That said, I had alot of fun playing the last stress test, and might pick up this game when it hits shelves later this year.

Google is your friend.

Nice write up. Didn't scream fanboy and didn't bash with vehemence. Some other staff "writers" should take a course from Mr. Fuller.

"Many guild features" ??

Well it has guilds, chat, ranks, mail and MOTD. It doesn't have a guild bank for cash, guild storage, guild housing, guild logo, guild in-game forum, out of game guild list or anything that we've seen in other MMOs for years now. There are also guild auctions - why would I want to auction stuff to my guild?

Will MMORPG.COM ever say anything negative about LOTRO? In even the worst MMO there are positive things to say.

This isn't the worst MMO, I'll be playing, but it isn't the best.

Guild auctions serves the same purpose as a guild bank, You put crafter items or whatever in there with a buy out of a couple of coppers, then make it guild only so only guild members can bid.

In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king - LAST OF THE MOHICANz

I am anti guilds and pro having a religious structure instead...however, having read the other comments keeping it in guild seems like a good idea - to build inter guild relationships and to create a sense of not just crafting for yourself but for a group too. I pre-ordered. LOTRo will not be a good as Turbine's D&D stormreach...but has to be better than WoW despite looking like a WoW clone for much of the game mechanics.

I think the Kinship Auction ( Not Guild Auction) will benefit the smaller kinships rather than the big ones.
Bigger Kinships tend to have their own websites where items of use can be listed and then in-game mailed.
The smaller kinships will probably like this little addition.
