I went to the forums on this site and read reviews of Runes of Magic. So far, it seems that you can't be powerful without...spending money. As far as I can see, no F2P game is worth it. Most require you to spend money to acquire powerful, usable items that unbalance the population. Most also require you to keep purchasing these usable items to stay competitive. Runes of Magic is still supposedly (almost WoW). Most F2P games lack graphics, functionality, or gameplay design in some major way. Basically...they suck, they suck you into the F2P design, and then they try to suck at your wallet so you can boost your online ego. When you step away from the game for a day or so, the magic wears off and you start to see the deception involved. I have NEVER seen a F2P game that impressed me or even seemed halfway worthwhile. Most of the "successful" players in F2P games spend near to $300 a year...far more than your average subscription based game. |

I'm not saying RoM is perfect, but for a F2P it is pretty darn good and has alot of cool ideas that many of the P2P games can't seem to get right. If it isn't for you then don't play it, but most of the reviews I have read about RoM and my own personal experience with it seem to contradict what your post is saying. It's not fair to lump all F2P games in the same basket. While there are plenty out there that require you to spend $$$ to succeed, there are a few gems out there that don't also... |

From reading the critical reviews on this site, it seem that you have to buy daily reset tickets to do the dailies just to level past 30. Also seems that micro transactions are needed to upgrade your items? I'm sorry if it seems like I'm too critical on F2P games. Way too many games are labeled F2P yet have micro transaction requirements just to compete at the lowest levels with other players. I would not gripe so much if most of these micro transaction F2P games (lets just call them Faux to Play) actually matched subscription based games in pricing but they don't. Prices to play are generally blown way out of proportion and it's often better to just subscribe to a subscription game. Which brings me to my point. In F2P games, you often pay more for less. F2P games are just too expensive for me. With hits such as Star Trek Online and SWTOR topping the list of games in development, I'm just concerned about paying more and getting less with these F2P titles.

There is enough quest to get you to 50 without even touching dailies, unless your level 39. Level 39 is the only level that does not offer a quest and it's been famed the grind level. People only buy reset tickets to level there second class faster, since you go through alot of the quests, and its easier. Seriously though, this game is so easy to level in, it beats WoW ten fold. |

The cash shop unbalances that game so much that it should be even illegal...the upgrading system in that game is horrible and forces you to pay real money because to make 1 good item, just ONE! you need like 1000 arcane transmutor charges if not more...and that's...300 days of daily quests (10 AT charges=300 daily tickets=3 days) farmed...so nice isn't it? So that means, people who doesn't spend money will be useless because enchanting gear makes your character very strong compared to free users...2-3 times more hp, 2-3 times more dmg, 2-3 times more defense...a mage who paid that money is better tanker than a free user tank just to give you an example, and free users can't do a shit by doing the daily quests, 1 real year farming daily quests every single day to make 1 piece of equipement that someone can make by paying a lot of $$$. With that i state clearly that RoM is by far the worst and the most unbalanced mmorpg i've ever played. |

I'll join in the conversation by saying the in my own opinion, I think Fiesta Online is one of the best MMOs I've ever played. I've played other MMOs like 9Dragons, Cabal Online, GunZ, and the popular Runescape. Cabal Online was pretty good but I quit after a while. I've been playing Fiesta for 2+ years now and I would never leave. You're not required to pay money for itt, however it is optional to pay for premium items but that is entirely up to you. The community is great and there's a lot of adventure in the game. Don't expect it to be a perfect MMO because it's not perfect. No MMO is. But I would highly recommend Fiesta as an anime-styled 3D MMORPG for anyone to play. If you ever need help, you'll get a response from any of the experienced players. |

Shocked no one bothered mentioning DDO. With the recent revamp to being free to play with a pay to play option, and a shop that is actually really well set up, I would say DDO has taken the gold for free to play MMOs. So far only things I found worth purchasing *for me* was the Warforged race, the Monk, and Favoured Soul classes. Never been much of a fan of the drow, and if I ever went premium I would get it for free anyways. *Almost* every other item in the DDO store can be gained in game. Also, you get points towards the DDO store in game by gaining favor with the various factions. Atlantica is nice, but the combat style is one you have to get used to compared to most MMOs. RoM, as have been said, is a very decent WoW clone, with a little more depth. Wonderking is a cute game, but never got much of a MMO feel to it for me. Luminary was an interesting 'UO lite' type game. Once again, things were very cute in that game. Requiem was decent, but didn't have much depth for me, just didn't seem to click with me. RFO as pretty fun if you are into PvP. I know I've played other MMOs, but DDO is the only one, I feel, that really did a good job balancing everything out. All of the above however was good fun to one degree or another. |

Ok just remember that . THERE IS NO TOTALLY F2P GAMES IN THIS DAMN WORLD . Yes they are free to play and download but each games has his own premium mall where you must pay real cash for that. But the premium stuff is an option and if you want to pay . There is by paypal or prepaid cards at good prices ;) Lets get back go the games . The best for me are : Aika Online ( A brand new mmorpg with a lot of quests, a giant 1000 vs 1000 PvP and pretty good graphics) Soul of the ultimate nation ( My favorite !! Really good graphics for a f2p,various quests, big world and cool community) Requiem Bloddymare ( Blood and gore but not terrifying , lots of quests who fit in the story, nice classes and pretty nice graphics but if you want to go more far, pay cash :S ) Perfect World ( Yes he is reaaaalllly repetitive but the combats are fun(You can fight in the air ;) ) ! The community is pretty big and graphics are good)
Other games that i played but they were not really nice for me : Dekaron Last chaos Karos Online Allods Online

While I haven't been all that into the MMO market lately I'll list some of the F2P ones I've played and enjoyed in no particular order other then the order I remember them in. Cloud Nine RF Online DDO Requiem Rohan Anarchy Online Fantasy Earth Zero LaTale Dream of Mirror Online Drift City Pandora Saga Neo Steam Sword of the New World I'll admit it's been a while since I've played most of these games so I don't know how they are now... |

I've tried F2P for a long time, and the only games that have any redeeming qualities are always the weird ones. Everything else just sucks in too many ways and never does anything interesting to redeem for all of it's shitty generic grinding/pvp/lackofpve Mabinogi is the only exception to that I've enjoyed so far.. but I can't see it lasting. If you're interested in something different try...
Gods and Idols - You play a God, there are other gods, you run planets and have wars with other gods planets. Auteria - Little indie mmorpg. N8 - Funny little 8bit styled MMORPG.
These games are actually free. Most don't use a cash shop at all and those that do use it for things so minor that they actualyl don't matter- not just like how people say they don't matter in other games and they actually do (RoM, Mabinogi, all games with massive cashshops)
Anyway I'm tired and this post is pretty shit so I'm gonna stop now |

How did a thread from literally 3 years ago get bumped lol? |

Because it is a topic that is never dated. People will always have something to say here no matter how long the thread rests. I don't think f2p mmo's are going away anytime soon. |

well, ive played several f2p over the years, my current favorite is Perfect World International, Dragon Oath is good too of you have previous experiance in mmos, Then theres Neo Steam. i was only able to play for about 15 minutes at a a time if i was lucky because it lags alot. if you have a fast computer, i would HIGHLY recommend Neo Steam because it has good pvp, good story line, decent graphics, and its very original. Mabinogi was quite good too, despite its crappy graphics. |

I don't know if Runes of Magic is the best, there are soooo many bugs. I get sick of crashing so many times per session. It really makes me long for something more stable. I'm going to keep looking and try something new, I hope I can find something worth playing that won't boot me every ten minutes lol. |

Mabinogi http://mabinogi.nexon.net/ (offers a ton of in-game options. There is really no need to pay for rebirths. You can get by without paying anything. Combat is different and fun. it is a rock/scissors/paper type combat.) Megaten http://megaten.aeriagames.com/ (combat almost idential to Mabinogi, but crafting is lack luster. You can tame and upgrade pets. Uses same unique dungeon generator as Mabinogi. This game seems to be more combat focused where Mabinogi is more social focused)
Zentia http://z.us.changyou.com/ (not too bad, i enjoyed it a lot more than most other F2P games out there. Character customization is extremely limited though)
Iris Online http://iris.gpotato.com/ (might be too cute for you, but the gameplay, dungeons, etc were all there and performed well in CBT. Open beta should be starting sometime soon.)
I would try to suggest LOTRO, but you will have to pay at some point. I have a lifetime sub so I get everything. For free you could do the book quests and get all the normal quests up through lvl 20. After level 20 you would be stuck grinding since normal quests wouldn't be available without paying. You'd would eventually have to pay to unlock expansions as well. Just depends. If you get a months gameplay out of something and really love the game, I don't see why paying would be a fault. Show your support for the developers, buy the expansion or unlock something. just my 2 cents. |
