Love is where you give, |
I've been beta testing Vanguard since around August. Vanguard is a nice mix of the old EQ, EQ2 and WoW. It also offers a few new features one of which is the fellowship system which allows 6 friends to share exp even if a one is offline he still gets a share of exp. This can make for slow leveling but it's not about leveling. It's about staying in a playable level range of your mates. This game has everything it needs to succeed. It really is a good game. 99% of the people knocking this game have played it less than a week. Most of those people played it months ago especially those talking about character creation which has so many options its insane. The game has completely changed since i started beta. The biggest improvements have come with the lastest patches. New areas opening up. New races made playable. New character customization options at start up. Diplomacy still has a long way to go but let's give Sigil some credit for developing some new systems to incorporate into their game. I think Fellowships will be an industry mainstay. Largely the work of 1 developer in his offtime. A brilliant fellow and dedicated - i hope they never lose him. The fellowship system takes a hardcore game and allows casual players the ability to play it like a casual game. No longer will they log in and find their friends 10 levels above them(well unless their friends are asshats that won't do fellowships and who needs friends like those). If you don't like Vanguard that's fine. Vanguard will take alot of subscriptions from WoW. 1 year from today WoW will be down to 2.5 million subs while Vanguard is at 4million. Count on it. These guys are winners. |

I'm also in this Beta.
It is a very solid game. It's not as flat out stellar as the hype it got in the past but it is a very solid game and will stand up very well on it's own. Sigil did a bang up job. That said: It's not going to be one I subscribe to since I'm not into class/level based games. But if you're into those this is a top notch game superior to anything else currently on the market in that category in many ways. At higher levels, however: Several features DO tend to cater to the powergamers. So be aware this is definitely a game that, while you CAN play it casually definitely rewards those who sink significant time into it, much like EQ1 did. Personally I don't have huge problems with that but, as I said, it's a class/level system so that one right there stops me from bothering to subscribe. Beta has been enjoyable, however. Edit: Oh... and to the performance naysayers: You absolutely CAN play the game on max settings on a moderate rig. My system is 3 years old and I play it maxed out using the same tweaks Anarchy mentioned in the original post. |

fanbois, haters, hypocrites. It gets very dull. |
A little bit head over heels I think, I reckon Vanguard will probably gain around 50-150k subscribers with the possibility of gaining more over the years maybe up to as many as EQ2. |

I agree i just see more people being turned off by the graphics and animations and as its being released too early it'll ruin it some more :P I reckon about 100-200k will play max. |

Additionally Burning Crusade is taking suspiciously long for to release. I would not be surprised to see it go gold as soon as the next big MMO titles do as a way of taking the wind out the sails of the competition. The game may well become a success in its own right but a WoW killer? A longshot IMO. |

SOE is the publisher and therefore the marketer for Vanguard. SOE has more muscle than anyone in the gaming industry. Burning Crusade is going live on the 16th according to the e-mail i just received. Vanguard is 3x the game WoW is both in size and depth. WoW has little chance of remaining king. WoW is no competition for Vanguard. Vanguard is on a whole new level where it stands alone. It's funny that people want a smooth launch. There has never been a smooth MMO launch. Even WoW was horrid. 5 hour wait to long in anyone? |
