Staff Writer Carolyn Koh took the opportunity to talk to Daniel Lin, the Manager of Overseas Marketing for Voyage Century, about the upcoming Pirate-MMO from IGG.

MMORPG.com: We understand that Voyage Century is a 3D Nautical MMORPG set in the 15th to 18th century. Is it geographically contained or does it span the world?

Daniel Lin: Voyage Century combine the information about the history and geography relating to the voyage in the century of 15--18 and form a side of history spanning 300 years. Voyage Century will make the players feel the real geography and create all kinds of histories in the game. There are two spatial proportions: real proportion of the city scene and the sea battle. Furthermore, the sea map in the earth which is minimized by the virtual time in the game.

The full Q&A is here.

The interview was a bit hard to read but this game seems like a really kewl idea. Graphics are passable if not decent but could use some shininess to them. All in all, this game could have a definite niche depending on the final product. I look forward to hearing more about it in the future.

Yes, yes it is...  You get used to it very quickly though.  It's also the most appropriate form of travel on the high seas.  You can just click and set your heading.  I usually don't like that aspect of asian games, but it's not bothersome here.

I'm doing the same.  Thing is, PotBS doesn't hit until AT LEAST this summer.  VC hits Open Beta Friday.  You do the math...  :p

Yeah, see what you mean, but point n' click just doesn't do it for me anymore. I want a higher level of UI interaction. Anyway, I'm waiting for PotBS as well.

Me either my friend.

But:
* VC looks to be slightly different than most click to move games.
* I'm not playing anything else atm.
* It's Fawking FREEx0r to TRY it.

I gotta at least give it a try if only to make my sig a few words longer...  :)

You have to give them an A for effort.    Officially asking their testers to spam other forums is too funny.

Their admin also posted and spammed about the game a couple of times. I find it hard to take this game & company serious. Many people don't know, but back when the game launched the first promotion website about a year ago, it stole the website lay out of the official World of Warcraft website, even the night elf was still there. Also, the fact that I have yet to see an employee of the game speak half decent english doesn't exactly give's me high hopes for the translation of the game either.

Point & Click never bothered me before.  I find the graphics acceptable.  The ideas and features in the game seem fine, it could be fun.  The translation of the game may be questionable.  If it's going to be a heavy grind, it's not going to be for me (at least not for very long).

I am all set to try out the game later on today.  Is there an NDA for it?  It's Open Beta, I think.  I'm looking forward to trying it and reading what other have to say about their first impressions.

Pirates of the Burning Sea is still the mmorpg I am anticipating in this type of setting, but the release day is still so far away.  Voyage Century could be fun to play until then.

The English, or Engrish, in-game is sometimes so bad that the quests are difficult to understand.

I quickly uninstalled it.

Yaarrr Der be another piwat MMO a commin...

Between this, and Disney's PotC many elfs will hang up their long bow to plunder the seas, grab spannish ladies, and drink french wine. PotBS surely can use the added interest when many try this, and then move to a more in depth version.

Still good to see companies walking a new path from fantasy though, wish em luck.

SWTOR. Face it, in the Scooby Doo Mystery Solving Van of coolness, this game is Velma. In this current MMO climate it has about as much chance for survival as a group of inquisitive teenagers in a 1980s slasher flick. -Tardcore May, 2011

Hmmmm..........So what, this is PotBS Junior, for those who don't want to play the good version?

Funky.

I think I may hang about for the Burning Sea. That game looks like Pure Awesome In A Boat. This game..........doesn't.
