FIREFLY as an MMO!!!! i think a space/western would fly very well.... when they're in space it's about the technology, and when they're planet-side, well.. it's not. :) the series was story driven enough that there is a lot of lore potential to be flushed out...
i do think in an MMO setting this franchise has a LOT of potential. but hey, that's just me, what do i know, after all, I am not the proud owner of a cunning hat.
"We aren't going to ... Period. End of statement." ya. ok. whatever. but what do i know, i'm only a vanbois i'm told. |

I believe they said they will issue the "official" announcement tomorrow. What I don't understand is how they are claiming the game will come out in 2008. How can they have any idea when it might be done if they don't even have a developer yet? |

Sounds interesting. Little like the scifi in AO and space travel... I can see it. Hope it makes it out the doors. These days things like this start up and never see the light of day. I'm still hoping the Stargate one actually makes it out.

OMG space above and beyond! that was ace! they would have to let you be Chig (sp) tho! that'd be alot of fun. Firefly MMO could be ace, dependws on the setting. During the war? Same timeline as firefly? A second civil war after the film? there is alot of possibilities. |

Stradden, So when do we get to see Firefly have its own page on here? I am interested in seeing how this is going to flesh out. I loved the series, but I am a bit skeptical with all of the former big name IP flops we currently see. I hope they learn from their mistakes and make a really great game!

No actual world.....what on earth are you talking about? And what is this Tulga and NP3 crap, I have nevered heard of that nonsense....Firefly took place in space and on about 10 different planets, I would say there is "plenty" of world....

Well, I love firefly but seriously. I dare you to take a look at the other MMORPGs that are being produced with Multiverse. Heres a link to a list of them along with trailers: http://www.multiverse.net/games/built.jsp?cid=2&scid=1 I'm not sure if they could be competent in making a firefly MMORPG... Well... We'll just have to wait and see I guess. Play as your favorite retro characters: www.cnd-online.net and read my blog: creatingaworld.blogspot.com/ |

The intricate universe of Firefly has enormous potential in being a thrilling and compelling MMO but all that would depend upon the developer residing over it. In my opinion, storyline would be vital to the success of the MMO as well as superb gameplay that greatly contributes to it. The concern I have is another flop like Star Wars Galaxies with developers becoming overzealous to the extent that they forget the true scheme of things. I would be eager to play a Firefly MMO and step foot into an exraordinarily oranate universe. However, I feel that the fragility of Firefly's intricate universe could be compromised by the failure of the MMO.

Why the heck do you need a storyline? Sure the Serenity movie had a storyline, because movies have to have an ending. But MMO's don't. I personally have no more desire to save the universe than Mal did. And I'm at least as adverse as he would be to the idea of someone else plotting my life for me. Each episode in the series was just a bunch of guys on a ship trying to get by in a tough galaxy. Why can't that be the "storyline" for an MMO? Just like in the series, let us get together a few friends, or a guild, or go solo on our own ship. Just like in the series, we may meet people on the ground or in outer space and add them to our group. Or not. Either split a big haul more ways, or else try to keep a larger share of smaller jobs. That's all the "storyline" you need. Sure a few curves thrown into the missions once in a while will make it more interesting, but you sure don't need a modern-day Tolkein to come up with those. |

I'm really curious about what Multiverse has to offer with their software. I tried to view the demo they had on their site, but it was a dead link. Has anyone been able to take a peek at their technology?

I sorta got the demo to work. It kept saying that it couldnt connect and crashing on me, but then it worked a few hours later. I had less than 2 frames per second though. I chatted with a couple people in the demo world and they said that they got okay frame rates, so I think something was up with the compatibility with my computer, I dunno what. Anyways, the world was insanely bland and all, but it is just a demo so you cant really expect it to be amazing... The Multiverse software is for handing massive amounts of players anyways, its not for the graphic models and such, so it would be wrong to attribute the way the demo world looks to multiverse. I would attribute the way their website keeps going on and offline, and the way the demo world keeps going offline to them though Play as your favorite retro characters: www.cnd-online.net and read my blog: creatingaworld.blogspot.com/ |

I actually have hard time believing they are making a MMO based on one of the crappiest tv shows ever. Oh dear, I so hope this will crash and burn as it rightfully deserve it. This was so bad, bad actors, bas stories, crappy characters, ridiculous world. No wonder they got rid of it quickly. The worse is that in order to put that tv show on tv they cancelled a real good tv show that was packed with potentials and already had many fans: James Cameron's post-apocalyptic tv show Dark Angel. Firefly can go to Hell and that MMO too. |

Actually Dark Angel was cancelled because 1: Fox could not afford two scifi series at the same time; 2: after 9/11, they tried to brighten up Dark Angel in the second season because they found the show too dark and depressing, other tv shows in the work were cancelled for the same reason, they were too dark and depressing for FOX; 3: they kept changing the time slot for Dark Angel to finally put it at a bad time slot so DA did not to get as much viewers as in the first season, bad decision for a new show starting to gain fans. So yes, Firefly is partly responsible for the cancellation of Dark Angel, it was either Dark Angel or Firefly. |
