NetDevil Auto Assault Co-Project Lead Matt Shaffer sits down with writer Martin Ressier to discuss the game's upcoming Update 3.

MMORPG.com: What will players see in update 3? Can we get a quick rundown?

Shaffer: We've included a number of high-level and intermediate-level mission instances, as well a couple of extremely tough bosses in Ground Zero. We've also revised the Outpost Token system, which is now oriented more towards PvP play than just capturing Outposts, and have integrated a new set of weapons and items to buy with the Tokens. We've also instituted the start of our skill system pass, which will help balance out skills across the classes quite a bit while eliminating the repetitive or little-used ones.

MMORPG.com: Most players on the boards think pets are too weak. Will the issue be approached?

Shaffer: Yes. This is very high on the priority for the next phase of our skill pass. We are looking at moving from a system where one player controls many pets of relatively low power to a system where the same player will control fewer pets of greater power. The goal is to keep the relative difficulty of PVE the same, but make the pet classes in Auto Assault more viable in PVP.

NetDevil has been working hard on these updates, and U3 has brought enough changes to keep me and many more hooked up. As long as the Pets and Crafting will be updated in U4, AA will be around for a looong time.

I'm excited about all updates to AA. I only played for two months after release, but to me it's kind of like
Anarchy Online was. There's a great game there, but they haven't completely brought it out yet. Going to
resub and see how it feels with U3, though I'm still looking forward to more development in group incentives. Like for example a group accumulating minor statistical bonuses from playing together over a longer period of time.

To all those posters who keep moaning about playing during beta and not liking it...well you should definitely check it out again as its come a long way since then. This game is constantly being refined and tightened up which brings a challenge in itself of adapting different playing styles to survive. Eventually when the dust settles I'm sure this game will be a major quality product and unfortunately thats not always something that can be measured with subscription numbers.

I resubscribed and have been playing it for half a month now and come to lvl 61 of 80.

The game has come a LONG way since release and I can trust on it to get me in a good mood. It's a shame not more people are playing, but at least the few who are make for a friendly community. Faction channel is kind of like a good guildchannel on the biomek side :P Cheers
