David "Zeb" Cook, the Lead Systems Designer for Stargate: Worlds submitted to an interview at AGC on the progress of his game. The article includes the first screenshot of their game.

David “Zeb” Cook, the Lead Systems Designer for Cheyenne Mountain’s Stargate: Worlds project took some time during the Austin Game Conference to update us on how his company’s rookie project is coming.

“We’re winding down our preproduction,” Cook told MMORPG.com. That phase has seen them concentrate on nailing down their visual style, prototype combat and set up their production pipelines. They’ve also worked hard to make sure their two major licensed technologies – Unreal 3 for the client and BigWorld for the back-end – play well together. As a sign of how far they’ve come, they even released their first screenshot just after the show (top right).

Ok only thing that worries me on this is...NO FPS NOOOOOOOOO!

This should be a a fpsrpg. In other words you aim but your skills when you hit determine dmg.....

Just completely lost me on this spamming specials and watching your toon fire away just isnt immersive to me.

But thats just my two cents.

This is bad news in my book...if ever a game lent itself to FPS style combat, it is SG.

I can deal with FPS or traditional RPG combat... as I enjoy both. What bothers me is the "no mountable objects" bit, and the part about being a game rather than a world. Sounds like they sat around the last few months talking about what would be easy to do rather than what fans want. If they stick to that philosophy, i think we can expect another crappy, watered down big license MMMO... ala Dungeons and Dragons Online.... and that would be a serious waste of opportunity, IMO. :(

"Blah Blah Blah yakkedy smakkedy"

The concept art looks great.

I dont see you going anywhere with first person anything unless you offer the option to scroll in and out from third to first. If you decide to use any first person views then like I said let it be a scroll in and then with a zoom pertaining the weapon your using. This would allow for the player to:

1. Be able to be more aware of his surroundings in 3rd person as well as take in the vast worlds surroundings that mmos have to offer.

2. Indeed use first person aim and zoom and more for times when those creatures do hide behind boxes, trees ect..ect..

3. Give the players the choice to use the view they want, do NOT limit your customers to a one sideded perspective, noones like that imho.

All in all if you present the world and combat in a unique way which is already unique because its a fictional sci fi mmo you should be safe but again not limiting your people to one perspective.

One more suggestion, let your modelers and artsists have fun with the design so that when a player looks at the creatures and world he/she can then get a better HOLY COW feeling when looking at them. Keep in mind that by the time your game is released (which is what 2 years from now) many people will be upgrading or upgraded and ready to handle a bit more of a polycount as technology is moving forward as always. :) Unless of course you plan on going with the typical low low polycounts many use today hehe. just my opinion /shrug gl!

The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander.

I was midly interested into the game...until THIS moment!

Zeb is a cool guy in my book, unlike 95% of the other designers, when he talk he actually mean it!  See, an average designer would have try to get FPS fans hoping and then disappoint them.  (kinda unlike some devs that say groupers/soloers will enjoy their game...althought they build a raiding game) This guy is direct and honest!  I like it!

See, a quote... "The endgame is still in design stages, but Cook does want to accommodate a range of play styles in whatever they do."

Zeb is awesome, he doesn't lie, he doesn't build wrong hype...he tell what is going on.  Coming from the guy who design Torment and who left Cryptic at a moment they keep doing MANY bad mistakes ruining the gameplay (he left the project for ethic reasons)...I AM HYPED NOW!  I also understand that no "endgame" will be precisely enforced, as long as you enjoy any of them, which is great in my book.  They want to accomodate a range of play styles, which mean there will be prolly many ways to achieve it (not THE unique ways, all path lead to Rome, you take whichever suit you best).

Stargate is a cool serie on TV, but I wasn't really looking much forward the MMO, but listening to Zeb, who tell that the clouds are white, the sky is blue and the sea is a greenish-blue, even if I want everything to be pink, is certainly refreshing...and lot of stuff they do that I enjoy.

This game is definitely gaining hyping points and is on my "must check" list now...might still be "underdog", but with quite the attitude!  I like it!

- "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. " - René Levesque about the denial NO on the poll to his dream, project and goal. (Free translation)

It should be FPS based...especially if they intend the AI to employ such tactics as they said. Stargate should be FPS based, it screams for it. I am severly disappointed...
