The only one who can really answer that is you. the game is great for what its meant to do, but its not a game for everyone. don't bother listening to the so called "reviews" made by forum posters on this website. most, if not all, never played the game for a reasonable amount of time.
it IS a game for the hardcore crowd. if PVP is not your thing, then don't bother. this is actually a game for the nasty people. lots of player killing, lots of clan politics. its some sort of sandbox. you create your experience, not the game. if you just grind on mobs all day and doing quests, completely ignoring the pvp & clan politics, then yeah, you will get bored of this game, because it would just be like any game. if your the typical World of Warcraft player or Everquest player, where the game makes the experience for you (there is nothing wrong with that), then this won't be the game for you but if you love pvp, if you have no problem making your own experience with the help of pvp,if you enjoy being part of a guild (and by that I really mean be part of a guild, not an extra LFG channel) then by all means, give it a go. its worth a shot. |

How can you say this game is for the hardcore. Most hardcore gamers are looking for something more. Simplistic games like this are the cause of the genre going in the wrong direction. I've been playing MMOs since UO back in 1997 and I have to say, this game has less features than UO. It's now 2006, almost 2007. In almost 10 years of MMO growth, this has taken a major step backwards. Why play a game that is mediocre. Hardcore you say? I think not. Only newbies would play such a horrible game and still have a good time. People who know better know to stay away. You must have a very simple mind to be entertained by this game. |

In regards to the title of this thread - If you're having fun with the game and like what's in it then sure, it's worth the monthly fee. If you're not being entertained and aren't enjoying yourself then no it wouldn't be. Same with every MMO out there that charges a fee. Everybody's looking for a different "package" and some will find what they're looking for with ArchLord and some won't. If you're worried about wasting money, try to get a hold of a beta key from people giving them away (usually over on the Codemasters ArchLord forums.) If you're unable to test the game and are still worried about spending the money for a game you may not like, I'd probably wait until a good free trial is available and then give it a go if you're interested enough.
If the game and the ArchLord community are all so simple-minded then why are you wasting your time commenting and socializing with the likes of us? What does that say about you? ![]() |

I see you dont fully understand the term hardcore. by hardcore, it means the game requires a LOT of your time. that is what makes it hardcore. it has nothing to do with the amount of features. "Only newbies would play such a horrible game and still have a good time" not really. this game is fully based on massive pvp and clan politics. if your the lone wolf UO player, then stay away, this is not the game for you. this game is all about clans & pvp. But I fully understand your reason Spunger, as you mentioned that you only reached level 10 in the closed beta. you basicly haven't seen anything yet, so I can understand you discribe your experience as boring. with that said, it also makes your entire post pointless. |

empty, no soul in this game, avoid it only beginning people in the MMO section might enjoy this because they don't know what quality MMOs have to offer

Either point out the bad parts of the game and proof that you played for a reasonable amout of time, or stop posting things like that. |

This game is decent.
Pros: Open PvP (outside of safe areas...BEWARE OF GRIEFERS, they like attacking newbies who run passed the gates into the outside world), music (if you don't get tired of it), bounty hunter system (not sure, but you get rogue points or something after killing someone without consent (???)...haven't tried this, so I'm guessing...the Village Chief allows you to select from a list of people to hunt down who have bounties on them...their values, names, levels, and online status are listed). Cons: Lack of player customizability. No different than RF Online, RYL, Pristontale, etc in terms of gameplay. I really dislike the viewing distance, especially when you're out looking for a boss monster and it appears right in front of you, starts attacking you and if it's a tough guy, you didn't have time to prepare youself. Loot drops publically, so if you're trying to stay alive, someone can run by and pick up your loot (sure, you can press the spacebar to pick up stuff near you, but it gets kinda difficult when you're downing life potions every second to stay alive or when you have to retreat a bit). Things that I have no idea about: Grouping (I'm lvl 7 and still haven't found myself in a situation that I need to group, I do see quite a few groups running around though). I'm playing as an Archer (using a crossbow), so I don't know how the Warrior or Mage classes are, and me being Human, I also don't know the racial differences (in terms of advantages/disadvantages). Auction House (I skimmed through it, just a typical AH...I don't know the specifics of it though) Well, that's all I can think to say right now after playing for about 4 hours last night. It's a "decent" game, good to kill time. I don't think the game warrants its monthly fee after it goes retail. There's really nothing supremely unique about this game...I really like the bustling atmosphere though, lots and lots of people on 24/7 (although this is due to the fact that it's Open Beta right now and everyone's trying it out). The community is very helpful, every now and then people start hate bashing the game, but that's typical. I'd say give it a try...play it while it's free ;) |
