Fantastic story Laura. Brings back memories from years back when I was a wee human out of Freeport, working tailoring to make armor for my monk. I miss old EQ, stories like that make me want to jump right back into it...

Not only was that the most boring article Ive read in a long time, you also put screenshots from the SS beta on it, instead of it actully being something that has at least some relevance to the article... sure it IS everquest screenshots, but thats reallly about it... races you can't play on the server, gear you can't get on the server and well zones that arent avaliable on the server. EQ2 screenshots would have been just as relevant =/ Furthermore I find it rather strange to join a server with limited crafting, to become a crafter... Only point is to be one of the first so you can sell more expensive, adn that, to me, is gold farming just the same as farming for your pp. |==|=Linnorm====> When life is no more, death shall walk the land |

I enjoyed the article, being an old school EQ player myself. It almost makes me want to log in and start toiling away! But I think I'll just save myself some trouble and dig 30 4' holes in my yard with a teaspoon and then fill them back up again with a fork. Much easier on the wrists and my sanity.

I wish I had known earlier about the progression servers, they sound like a lot of fun. People may hate on EQ bceause its not as instantly gratifying as the new school MMORPGS, but it kept me playing far longer than anything else out there. I played for almost 5 years. Since I quit, I havent played a single MMO for more than 6 months or so. Love it or hate it, its got the most content of any mmo to date. But what Id really, REALLY like to see is a pvp progression server. Id definately go back for that! |

I wish they hadn't opened the progression servers during the summer otherwise I would definatly have started playing EQ again since it's by far the best mmo that has been made to this date. I have high hopes that Vanguard can fill the long lost love I feel for EQ tho

What in the hell is wrong with people these days? Why does everything have to be about knuckle bleeding competition? Why does corporate brutality have to permeate even video games? Its like years of angst-related encounters in Arcades - in the 80's and 90's - where a 'second player' would socially wreck someone is being avenged in MMO's by corporate minded goons - in the present. Or maybe its just bitter reality. Games aren't ment to be played and enjoyed anymore. They're supposed to train us for grim, inevitable future. - Even this article was corporate minded, it complained of IGE when its really no different. I still see someone 'working hard' to 'milk the system' and 'make a profit'. Regardless of wether its online currency or offline - it all boils down to the fact that everyone wants to make a profit, even virtually, from playing a game. If you want to get nostalgic about something, talk about the days when a higher level friend tossed you his old gear and didn't expect anything in return. When you actually could give someone your gear, when it wasn't bound to your character. It makes me wonder beyond the fatalists that simply think 'COMPETITION AND CAPITALISM IS LIFE' and wonder if MMO's are actually pulling in profits 'on the side' by collecting data on player's brutal consumer habits. And it now makes me deeply consider my position as yet another monkey being monitored for signs of aggressive profit-seeking. Hell, if some random EQ player can Excel-up generalizations and statistics to pull in 'phat loot' and 'milk the system' then god knows what actual professionals are doing. And I'm not referring to whores like IGE. -Jaded. |

Pfft yes we do. I came back (and hundreds of old retirted friends) just for preogression alone. With 12 expansions its easy to say that you missed older content. This is our chance to see everything we missed.

I honestly don't understand the fuss, nor care about it. Competition is submissive to cooperation, anyone who doesn't understand that understand nada. Competition is FUN, however it is a secondary concern, after cooperation.
Is the game fun? With raiding enforced it isn't. Whatever else happen is irrelevant, as raiding is destroying everything. Ano, I agree to a point. Enforced raiding can be stressful, and when the game becomes stress, It's a job, and why would you pay to work :) But then again, theres another side to it - satisfaction. Such and such guild completes Unqa with 30 people and no deaths etc.
I think it comes down to the guild you are in. Unfortunately many guilds are drama driven. It's rare but there IS guilds that are virtually drama-free, and fun - even on a raiding standpoint. For instance, my guild (on progression: http://www.chaos-forge.com ) does not require you to raid if you are not logged in. This is good because we all work different hours and live in different parts of the world. Some guild enforce manditory raiding, and thats a pita.
