I would like to indicate this old (about 4 years now) space simulation game : Darkspace... Some of you might already know it as a pay to play game.
There are two society running it : * The one developping it, called Palestar, (www.darkspace.net - www.palestar.com/) which run pay to play servers. * PAGN (www.darkspace.net.sg - www.pagn.net/) which run 'Darkspace Asia' (which is, in fact, english) for free. Here's the website description and a few screenshot : DarkSpace is a Massively Multiplayer Online Game set in the time of space travel and interstellar warfare. The universe has become a tumultuous place in the future of political infighting, economic sanctions and diplomatic posturing. All of the factions have high hostility towards one another with a few outposts staying neutral, at least initially, to determine their best interest. Players start out as an ensign in the midst of a human civil war intensified by reports of an alien species aggressively spreading its domain throughout the known universe. Beginning with small crafts, you work your way up the ranks toward the ultimate goal of Grand Admiral, capable of commanding capital ships and planning the core strategics of your faction. In this online universe, hundreds of players come together to forge alliances in a pulse-pounding struggle for mankind’s destiny. Mission goals will vary from pilot to pilot and completed objectives will bring favor to that faction's existence in the galaxy. The fate of the galaxy relies on your coordination with your team. In such an unpredictable universe, objectives will be obtained and rival borders will be pushed back only with teamwork on a massive scale. Players will need to choose their ships wisely, as each ship type fulfills its own versatile and vital role within the faction. A scout will reveal enemy positions as it lifts the fog of war, while combat-equipped heavy cruisers tear into the enemy forces with relentless speed and force. Planetary invasions are carried out with high-capacity infantry transports, and subsequent security is insured by engineering ships that rebuild and stabilize the planet's buildings. With all of its influential forces acting as one, the universe of DarkSpace continues to evolve. In the opening moments of gameplay, the dominant factions are human with a mysterious and advanced alien species silently closing in from the galactic rim. In the meantime, neutral and radical bodies with agendas of their own will force players to deal with the circumstances they create within their own borders. Features :

Here's the way to register for a free PAGN account in order to play Darkspace Asia : * Firstly, register an account on www.pagn.net * Then check your mail-box and activate your account. * Once this is done, head to www.darkspace.net.sg, download category, download the lastest client, install it and run it in order to have it update itself (about 5minutes). * Once the update is finished, log in with your PAGN account and password, if everything is OK, you'll have a fullscreen window with a chat, a main window in the middle and buttons on the top. Click on the 'Update' button (yes again, that's very important, otherwise the game won't launch) (about 10 minutes). * You're now ready to play ! Any question? Check the 'Beginner's Guide & Information' forum : www.pagn.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=124 If you can't get an answer, don't fear posting on the forum, we'll gladly help you! Note: You might need to wait a few time (up to one hour, but it took me about 5 or 10 minutes) in order to have your account active to play on Darkspace. ** Note 2: Even though it shows you an error when you activate your account, it DOES work. ** Note 3: When on lobby, in order to join the chat, click on 'Rooms' and then select the room you wish to join (probly 'General') ** Note 4: If you can't launch the game and it doesn't give you any error, it mean you probably forgot to click on the Update button. (You must update two time : first time when you log in, second time when you are on lobby). Hope to see you in-game, maybe shall we meet, my in-game name is Aemaeth/Aiglon. |

so....do you command one ship? or a whole fleet like an RTS?
Hi! My name is paper. Nerf scissors, rock is fine. |

One ship. You start with a small choice of ships, only the basics one, and gain medal and prestige through playing differents roles (bombing, capturing planets, building planets, fighting, capturing ships, reparing other ships, ......).
There are two differents servers on Darkspace Asia : Newbie server, on which you can play scenarios of about 3hours each max, and Metaverse Server which is a permanant-universe server (expect when it get reseted obviously). Also there are three differents races with each their best-optimized tactics (ie. one of the race has more firepower and their ships can cloak and auto-repair the hull but less armor/shield, specifically modded ships, etc). |

Despite the comments, I wanted to show you some pics of an event we had on 08/27 (MM/DD) to show you how the game really looks like when we have enough players, just like in the good old days. We really enjoyed it much, lots of fun, friendly ambiance and players .... ....

It's a really nice game if you get the hang of it. The game itself is not really newbie friendly, but the people in DarkSpace Asia are. If you don't mind having a tough time at the start and like space games this is your game.
Myself I recently started playing DarkSpace Asia after playing the P2P version for months. In fact the free version is just as good and I wonder why I even tried the P2P version. I find the game very fun to play, as I joined a very friendly fleet. I guess I like this game so much because of the ship to ship combat :) You should try this one if you haven't, because it's better than all free to play games out there. |
