As much as I like Anarchy Online, it does need a lot of changes.
Not only to make the gameplay funner, and more enjoyable, but to help more people come to it and make it a more successful game.

Now, this has probably been done a few times, but who cares, I want to say what I think needs to be done, and I have a lot of things that I think could be changed for the better.

So, bare with me and when finished reading it, you can say what you think.

I'm going to start off with what people think need to be changed and upgraded the most, which is the graphics.

Larger graphics changes and upgrades:

The graphics in general are outdated, and do need a lot done to make the game look new and interesting to new players, aswell as older players. But one, complete giant re-making of the entire world and everything in it is too extreme, and it would not only be a stupid attempt for new players, but a desperate one. What they need to do for the overall graphics is upgrade them enough so people will be drawn to it.
They don't need to take a crap load of time and money re-making the graphics so great, it only runs on 40% of people's computers. ( Examples of some good graphics upgrades that could be done: New and better textures, better lighting/shadowing, very minor animations done to gear/world/etc. Maybe even do some work on character models. )

Another thing that probably turns off people from Anarchy Online is Zoning. Now, yeah, zoning would be hard to just completely remove. It would probably mean changing the game engine itsself to remove it. But finding ways to cut back zoning would be a good thing. Because in today's world, everyone is impatient, so doing something with zoning would be a big plus.

Another thing that I think needs to be changed, and it's personally one of the things that bugs me the most is the character animations. Especially the combat animation.

It's bland, slow, and boring. Sure, role playing games consist of taking turns and all of that, but the way I see anarchy's combat animation is like "...He shoots his gun....I hit him with a sword...He shoots his gun again...I hit him with a sword.." and so on. They should work on making the animation in the world and in combat more colorful ( For lack of a better word ). That would help out the game a lot.

Noob Friendly changes:

Through out my short time playing this game, one of the things I see the most are new players asking a crap load of questions about the game and how the interface works, and so on. And to be honest, the game is pretty hard to learn, even when you read the entire damn manual on the site.

I'm not saying they should dumb down the whole game just because some people are too stupid to figure out how to target and shoot something. Here are something I think would help make the gameplay easier to understand the game once you start playing, and when you're getting deep into the game.

One of those would be to organize items and equipment. I think a lot of people have trouble finding not only good weapons, but just all around rare and good items. Having an idea of what is good and what isn't without having to go to Auno would be really helpful. Now, I'm not quite sure how they could good this. Probably add quality/rarety scale to help show people, or possibly having a color code for the items to show value and how good they are. ( Which I've seen in a few roleplaying games. )

And color brings me to my next thought which might come helpful to newer people that don't really understand the skill system in the game. For people who've played AO, they should know they have around 70 different skills you can build up upon in the game, and depending on your profession, certain skills are easier.

Now, for people who start off in the game, and who have probably read the manual, but don't really know how this system works, finding weapons can sometimes be a pain in the ass. ( Especially if you pick a weapon based class, such as the Enforcer or Soldier. ) Now, as simple as it is to figure out that you need this much skill on Assault Rifle and Full Auto to use this gun, some people can be dimwitted, so to make easier to find a gun, they could make colored text on skills when you veiw a weapon. ( Example: When you go to the shop and veiw a gun's stats and damage, Where it says " SMG: 345 " they could have it a certain color that basicly tells you if you can use that weapon. Maybe have red for when you don't have enough skill, and white or green when you do have enough. )

And as for skills, I think there should be different colors that show what is easier and harder to work on. Because Light green, Light blue, blue, and Dark blue can sometimes blend. Some people are color blind, and can't see blue. ( I actually knew a guy on Anarchy who couldn't see reds. Which is kind of a bad thing because sometimes he couldn't tell the difference between a really high lvl mob, and a low lvl mob, because they were the same color to him. But enough of my random stupidity, on with what I'm talking about. )

Now, something that could be a bit more helpful is some work on the in-game tips that pop up everytime you do something.
When I first started AO, I did as some people would do: Explore.
The first time I actually clicked on a creature, the tips poped up in a giant light blue window covering my character and almost everything else. Now, this annoyed me for some reason. It would be easier the tips pop up in a way so that they don't get in your way so much when you start playing.
And they could add in Profession specific tips, which would be helpful learning about what you're playing.

Profession related changes

Out of all of the professions that need work, the Nano-Technition needs it most of all. My first REAL character was a Nano-Technition. Of course, I didn't know much about the game at the time, and to be honest, he was gimped to hell. But after I made my Soldier, and got to about 130 or so, I remade my Nano-Technition. I had some money, so I transfered some to him and gave him some good stuff, buffed him up, and managed to get in some good nukes for him. But after all that money on him, he still sucked.
Now, you might say that NT's are a nano/magic based class or they're not meant to solo or pvp, but the thing is, they do need to be able to atleast stand up and be able to kill things by themselves, and they need to be able to do missions they're lvl by themselves.

Not saying they should be buffed up so much that they can solo any boss mob 30 above they're lvl, but they should atleast be able to stand a chance in solo and in pvp.

Here's something that hasn't really made sense from the time I started playing the game - Ranged combat.
Ranged Combat types usually have roots and snares and such, but you know, it's just kind of funny to be right in front of a mob with a giant gun, and still miss.

So, maybe some small adjustments to ranged combat would be a good thing.

In-game Changes and good additions

There is one thing that could be a good addition to both the original game, and the expansion: New Dungeons. The dungeons that come to mind right now are The Subway, Totw, Foremans, COH, IS, and a bunch of random dungeons all of the Shadowlands.( And the Alien ships if you would count that as one? )

More dungeons would be a good add, because it would give people more places to go. Might not be a good idea to add one that's about the same lvl range as another one, but it could motivate people to explore more of the world and give a chance for people to get new stuff.

As far as professions go, they don't need anymore. They have a good selection of professions to choose from and that's all fine and dandy, but they could add one or two new breeds into the mix. Anarchy, even though it has some things like other MMO's, is it's own game, and it's own kind of fantasy, so I think it would be cool to see what kind of new race they could come up with.

New mission types would be a plus. It gets boring after a while when you go on the same kinds of missions over and over. Also, I would like to see more NPC mission holders, which they're starting to add in now, which I think is cool. It would be cool to see more.

BALENCE PVP! There has got to be a way to do something about the crappy pvp in this game without destroying it.

EXP changes

They do need to do something about how much XP you gain per mob. Around lvl 100+, you start having 1-7 mil exp to gain, and getting 4-6K per mob can start to go to your head after a while.

One of the things they need to do is almost destroy the option for Heckler lvling in the Shadowlands. I don't care how much you like to kill hecklers, it ruins the Shadowlands expansion completely.

Having that said, they should increase the amount of exp gained per mobs not so much as it's easy, but so that it's enough to say "I think I will just grind to the next lvl" instead of sitting around and waiting for a team to form so you can take 5 hours of hunting giant monsters and getting killed.

We love to be different!

One of the things that might draw people to MMO's in general is the fact you get to make YOUR own character and make him look how ever you want him to. One of the small things they could do is have more options for making your character in character creation.

Instead of having the "social" tattoo's as something you equip like gear, make it to where you can have it put on.

Have you ever seen someone's toon who have Shoulderpads that show, and they also have other shoulderpads or Tank armor on top of that? It does this weird little thing where it kind of blends in with each other.
What would be a cool little thing to see is an option to in the "wear" window where you can have your shoulderpads show, not show, or only show on one side ( Depending on which side they're on ). It's not really important, but it would be something cool to see.( Unless you like the weird blendy thing. )

Now, this is kind of a dumb idea, but you know people love to make they're character look different and love to stand out, blah blah blah. What if at shops you could possibly have the option of painting armor? Or painting certain armor. It might sound dumb, but if it was added to the game, people would probably respond well to it. Orgs could be able to make they're own symbol in game and have them painted on their armor.
But, you know, that's just me.

Small changes

Make the damn drop rate on the Gardian Tank Armor higher. It's too rare for something that you don't keep for long.

Take the guards out of Borealis. I recently came back on the game and learned that they have guards in Borealis. If you're clan, that can cut off alot of stuff such as whoompa routes.

New armor and weapons. Especially new lower lvl armor and weapons some stuff that people can low lvls can get easier.

....Well, that's all I can think of.
If you have anything you think needs to be changed, post it up.
Or share opinions about anything.

Sorry for spelling errors.

Death gods only eat apples.

They listened they did the opposite of everything you wanted lol. Nt can kill anyone by pushing one button zoneing is an exploit the horror goes on. The moral of the story is be careful what you wish for from funcom lol.

The availability of gear is a huge problem in AO. A lot of new players get deterred by the lack of equipment that they can actually use. I know a lot of experienced players like the way it currently is, but even with the crappy weapon upgrade kits, noobs are totally lost (plus how the hell can they afford that)

They just need to make acquisition of gear (more so weapons... extra gear should be hard to get) more straight forward rather than being pointlessly tedious (not exactly difficult, just boring). It would be nice to walk into ToTW with a team full of froobs and not have them all drop dead from a train for once

The whole twinking thing probably throws off a lot of noobs, but that's one of the defining characteristics of AO.

Lots of gear is readily available, the really good stuff is either more rare or requires more planning and a coordinated group to get.  Teams of 20-somethings do fine in ToTW once they learn to work together and ToTW is not the only place to get good stuff.

I'm aware of that. New players however aren't going to know that unless they find help or check on the forums, and even then it doesn't always help them.

Wow...this post was started in June of 2006. Looks like we got another post in 2007, and now in 2008 we get a few more.

I wish them well on their graphical update.  I'll give it a go maybe, depending on the upgrade goes.
