Prehaps some of you have heard of a Virtual World/Game called "There" which is a bit different then your average MMORPG. There is more of a platform for 3D modeling and socializing. Actually it is beyond that. There allows users to decide how they play There and how they want their world to be. It allows you to create content inside the game such as clothing and objects from the simple to the mind blowing. For instence, one person created ThereOrleans, a recreation of the New Orleans square in the 1800's.
Besides that many things have been done, people have created Christmas villeges, themed cities, parks, malls, and even a skating rink once. There has alot to offer besides its ability to set no limits for what the user can create and do, it is also a great social platform. There has a great community, people who are willing to help with building projects, give tours to new comers, and just hang out with anybody nice. There is both a creative and social outlet, something very rare and something that is the next generation of internet communication. Oh, and did I tell you that you have the ability to make real money in There? Yep, you heard me right. There actually has a real economy. Since you can design and create new things you also have the ability to sell those new creations to members. There has an inworld currency called a Tbuck. Tbucks can be sold and bought for real money. Many people make a second income though There, they run buissnesses like stores and malls inworld. So they simply make a new creation, submit it and then put it in the auctions. After they make a couple thousand tbucks they can goto any of the member run trade sites and give There currency for almost any currency in the world. At first There sounds kind of strange, but it is an exciting place to be. There are so many activities and events going on every day and so many new things inworld every minute. People use There in many different ways and those people make it a more fun place to be because of what they mold and make There into. You could use it for purely socializing or to launch a 3D modeling career and make a bit of extra cash. I highly recomend There because it is at the cutting edge of the future, the next generation of socializing and communication on the internet. So click the link and look at it a bit. Maybe even try the trial because I know that if you give it a good chance it'll grow on you. I'll also include a link to a video a member made basicly as a commercial on the internet for There. This video is not endorsed by the company that owns There but it is one of the best member made videos of There i've seen in a long time. So, why not give it a try? I mean you have nothing to loose. Besides, the basic membership is free and if you want to upgrade your membership its very easy and extremely cheap to do so, plus you get some extra features and some bonus Tbucks. If any of you would like a private tour i'd be happy to provide you with one. Just send me a private messege on this site and i'll give you some details so you can contact me in world. I look forward to seeing some of you in world and ask any questions you wish in this thread as i'll be happy to answer them. Enjoy the trial and hopefully your future membership as I hope to see you in There! Be There - Member Made Video |

There is nice. Since it became free, one has nothing to lose in trying it. :) I just don't have time for it, or much of anything besides Ryzom. |

You are right, There is different. That is the main reason why I like it because There is almost one of a kind. There is a place where limits aren't set for me, I get to mold There and put a piece of my work into it. I get to be creative and social in There which is rare in alot of other MMORPGs. I understand some may not be into this and they may say things about There. However, before you judge There give it a chance, give it a couple of hours. I mean meet some people and have some things explained to you before you leave because it is "different". Well, it was made to be different.

Oh god what? Now, prehaps you didn't read the post right above your post. Yep, I said try before you judge. If you need something explained or expounded on I'd be happy to do so. I'm happy to help any body who wants more info on There, even if they don't plan on joining. However, I do ask if you are going to judge There please try it first. At least give something a shot before you shoot it down. |

There sucks. If I want to play in a sandbox, I'll go visit my neices or god children.

Just because a game is free doesn't mean there isn't a cost. I value my time. How is the economy in " There" ? How is the crafting system? Is it fun to adventure in? How is the combat? I do enjoy combat in my MMOGs.

First thing, the free account isn't a waste of time, its way worth more then having to fill out a form and download a client. Also, the 9.95 account is too cheap to believe. You get the ability to listen to streamed music in world, use voice chat, and explorer pack. I happen to have all 3 but I was in There before they changed the prices and account stuff so I got it all free when they changed the pricing origionally. Also when you sign up for the 9.95 lifetime account, which is what I described above, you get to choose a bonus package of Tbucks to spend in world. Now secondly, the economy is great. The company that owns There sells Tbucks in the member area once you sign onto the client. Also, there are many member run trade sites that do the same thing and sometimes have cheaper conversion rates from the US Dollar to a Tbuck or vice versa. It is extremely cheap to get started in There and a few thousand Tbucks go a long way. There is also developing ways for members to earn Tbucks free without having to buy them, this is on the list of things that the community felt needed to be handled when they took a survey a month or two ago. Thats another thing, have you seen a MMORPG that actually lets the members choose new feature and have a say in updates and changes? I know There does. Now for the other questions. The crafting system is pretty easy to use. You use clients outside of There and then submit the items in world. The program used for making 3D models is easy to learn. Also, to make clothing some people perfer to use PhotoShop for image and texture editing and then they apply that to the models loaded in the programs given to you by There. Also, members have the ability to customize buggies (cars), hover boards, hover bikes, bacios (hovering two person scooters), and hover boats (flying vechiles that can be in many different shapes). I find it extremely fun to explore There. Every time I ride around I find something new. The interesting thing about There is that the designers added these buildings "built" before the "modern There era". Such as temples, palaces, ancient gardens and such. Also members add and build stuff everyday so There never gets old. People have actually learned how to build in There space. There is actually in the form of a planet surrounded by an atmosphere which is called the sky dome. People build these ladders and stuff and slowly move their buildings and stuff from the ground into space. That is something I find very creative and neat, wouldn't you? As for combat many people invent new sports and types of events in There. We have paint ball and buggie racing as well as dog shows (yes, there has dogs). I've played a game before that is similar to bumper cars only on platforms in the air with bridges and ramps and stuff. I imagine eventually There willl release something and members will find a way to have some sort of sword and gun like combat which you normally experience in other MMORPGs. Any other questions? I'll be happy to answer 'em! |

Actually it was more in line with what modjoe had to say... not so much There... I thought you said you were quitting There like six months ago?

I took a break actually. I had some things going on in my life at that time and I just needed to get away from some of the drama that had been going on between me and someone else in world. So it was a combination of stuff in There and in real life that forced me to take a break. |

Yeah I was thinking more in terms of traditional combat, not sporting events. Also I am not fond of an economy where the developers sell in game currency. Can I kill other players dogs?

Short answer... No. However paint ball involves knocking people out, sort of. |

Boo. Sorry. I must bathe myself in the gleeful blessings of blood and death in order to satisfy my fragile esteem. |

If you need traditional combat in an MMOT (Massively Multi-User Online Thing), There simply isn't for you. |

igore the idiots Joel1120. If that is the game u are really into right now, more power to you, It makes all those who are searching envious.
anyways. I tried There, but it was some years ago. 03 I think. The concept was interesting, but the graphics were seriously lacking. Add to that awkward control setup and the game was hard for me to get into. But the people were nice, and there's prompt stuff to ride everywhere. I liked the airboard concept, and had some fun jumping between some giant wooden ramps. I also remeber riding an inflatable airboat. Now there's something different. As long as people keep thinking of different things to try in games I'll be happy. game on -virtual tourist |

I haven't tried There, so this isn't a knock against it, but what does this world offer that the real world doesn't? You spend money...socialize....explore....make stuff....dick around. That sounds like real life to me minus tuition.

Well there's no stinky, pollution-ridden inner-city traffic and such...it's a nice vacation for people who are stuck in such cities IRL. |
