Ok, I'm looking for a 15-17 inch monitor. I've got limited desk space, BUT I can accomodate a CRT. I'm trying to decide which to get, a CRT or a LCD. I know ghosting is a problem with LCDs so I need to know what specs to go for when getting one. Any advice would be appreciated.
Yes, I'm aware in general CRTs are far superior, but the shipping charges are usually what do me in when it comes to them, which is why I'm considering getting an LCD in the first place. |

A Few years ago you would be right, that a CRT is better than LCD. That is no longer the case, LCD's are equal to any CRT's, and they release less radiation, use less energy, generate less heat, and for most, my eye strain is far less. That being said, its almost impossible to find a CRT anymore, very few companies make them anymore, the only ones left really are old stock, that their desperatly trying to unload. For LCD's you will want 20ms, or less to prevent ghosting, most lcd's today are made with that standard, for a good gaming lcd, id go for 12ms to be safer. You will want a minimum of 500:1 contrast ration. Analog is preferable, but alot have both type of connections and running it on an analog cable "old crt monitor plug" will be just fine. Final note, a 15 inch LCD monitor gives you the same if not larger viewing area than a 17inch CRT. Its because LCD's measure the glass viewing area, whereas CRT monitors are meassured by the outside bezel. 15 inch lcd = 17crt 17 inch lcd = 19crt 19inch lcd = 21crt etc |

I agree with Scorpes pretty much completely except that you really should go for 8ms if you can. 12ms will still ghost on games like CS Source. Also for the same money as a 15" LCD you could have a 19" CRT that would seriously be a better gaming monitor overall.... but its horses for courses and a 19" CRT requires a LOT of deskspace. +-+-+-+-+-+ |

Also remember, I'm trying to watch the shipping charges as well. |

The only thing negative about LCD is that they have an native resolution, if you are used to run the games with a resolution bigger than 1024x768 you'll probbably want a bigger screen. otherwise the picture might be abit blurry. |

That's pretty much the only resolution I use :) |

I have a 15" Sony LCD rated at 16ms. I have no problems with "ghosting." 15" LCD's only support up to 1024x768. 17" and 19" support up to 1280x1024. I'd go with a 17" personally, my 15" is too small for my liking. |

i just got an LCD Samsung Syncmaster 930bf, 19 inch. it owns pretty hard, 4ms response time, never ghosts or anything on games and gives the crispest picture i've ever seen, its pretty nice... way better than my old 19 inch CRT. only cost me 250 quid (sounds alot, but its well worth the money for the quality).
