Stephanie Shaver, Hero's Journey Designer, is nothing if not colorful. Today, she brings us another delightful developer journal and under the guise of telling us about Necromancers, Wizards and Rangers, she rants about everything under the sun. Hero's Journey developer journals normally appear every other Tuesday exclusively on MMORPG.com. You can read the rantings of a Simutronics designer here. Dana Massey |

Well except the thing you could be naked there is nothing new that we couldn't expect in first place about those classes. He practialy say ranger will use arrows and have a buddy(pet),wizard will use spells and necromancer as necromancer.Except something new to me bout necro is that "bomb".We will se what that will be.They talk like politicians.Much talk little they say.Heh but im hapy they do talk :)
So im always wizard class but hey lets see other 6 classes and the abilities and the dual abilities ufffffff my brain hurt.So much choices.I like it. |

ROFLMAO!!! That was one of the funniest descriptions of character classes i have seen in years, well done! Especially loved the Necromancers. hehehehheh I can not wait to dive into a world created by someone with a great sense of humor and finely twisted perspective. :) *salute |

Well, durn, decorum be damned! What is the country becoming? Wussy, that's what! Even our fantasy worlds are being invaded with wusses. I really can't understand the uptight attitude our culture is adopting. There is good taste, of course, and then there are puritan standards that go way overboard. Why, please someone inform me, why is the human body so taboo? It is God-given and pure, except in the minds of people who see evil in everything that's good. Bah!

Hero's Journey Rangers get a wide variety of bow-shootin' styles. Their abilities include things like arrow flurries, weapon disarms, tracking, and immobilizations. This pleases me greatly. Rangers may also choose to summon a forest buddy to follow them around and gnaw on the bones of their victims. This... not so much.

As usual, all of your plans sound wonderful and I really, really, really look forward to playing this game. I will definitely be playing some sort of Ranger and having a pet much like I did in Dragonrealms would be great. I can't wait to see your description of the other classes as well. Dual classes FTW!

The battleground is a wonderful opera that can only be performed once. |

hmm I wonder if you take two pet classes if it'd be possible to make a hybrid pet from the two? Robot skeletons, Zombie bears, Cy-dogs ? Might be interesting. <ponders till the next journal --------------------------------------------

While some of Stephanie's jokes were funny, I find these dev diaries have way too much personality. You can easily turn people off to your game if you're trying to be "zany." Humor is way too subjective. Just give us the facts and let that impress and entertain. Reading these articles make me feel like i'm talking to a friend from highschool and not that I'm reading something by the lead designer of a company. And when distilled, there's too little information left.

I like Stephanie's presentation style. The typical developer interviews offer little in the way of insight, and lots in the way of spin; Stephanie gives a bit of information and packages it in a very funny, very human way. It's infotainment. It's entertainfo. It's worth reading just for the chance to make your coworkers wonder why you're laughing while they're banging their heads against their monitors.

I'm definitely going to make rangers. So far it's ranger/rogue and necromancer/ranger. Ranger/rogue because I feel that rogue completes the ranger. And necromancer/ranger because I loved being a necromancer in morrowind. Ranger because I like green arrow style characters and hunters from world of warcraft.

I always enjoy these Developer Journals, they are funny and informing. I would definitely like to see some new classes that go beyond the "Norm" of the usual fantasy mmorpg. The gearknight sounds great, but what else is there that is new and exciting, the Necro and Ranger sound very similar to other games, although I am certain there will be differences that set them apart. :)
