I don't believe you are really 37. The game is built for 10yr olds. What do you expect? |

Hehe exactly in the same boat, I played this game for two years back in it's early days when I was 14 and rune stuff was extremely rare. It was my first insight into the world of mmorpgs and well... I LOVED IT!! It had so much skills to do and the game never felt combat emphasised really. The community is the worst I have experienced by far but I was 14, and mingled in quite well and even made a fun guild of scammers where me and some of my close ingame friends had a nice little scam going and made millions off the stuff. Still, to this day, I havn't found a game which has got me as hooked and offered so much variety, WoW comes close but with it being combat only, it just isn't the same. Also runescape for me, went downhill when they released the 3d graphics, they totally ruined it for me. |

you say that stupid comment in every non-eve topic. do you honnestly believe runescape is aimed at a certain age? please at least get some knowledge of marketing before you make comments like that. |

Yes. Yes I do.
I would say that's pretty good marketing. Last time I looked (several years ago) Runescape had 750,000 ppl logged on at that time. If 100,000 of them where paying that means there is probably 3-4 times as much who are paying who were offline. A 10yr old boy plays the free game for 3 weeks then spends the next 3 weeks bugging his mommy and daddy to get him a premium. Yeah. I'd say that's pretty good marketing if you asked me. |

Well the game is free meaning it's bound to attract many younger gamers from the start off, everything is extremely simplified to offer very little challenge in terms of gameplay abilities. Eventhough I don't think the original intention was to have it aimed at 10 year olds but it's attracted so many, that anyone who is in the slightest bit mature, have either left or kept themselves to themselves. Also, it was very good marketing as as someone already said, loads of kids play it and then go whine to mummy or daddy to become a member. Alternatively, they could have done what I done when i played, waited until mummy and daddy wasn't looking, and phoned up for membership. |

I played Runescape long ago, but the only good moment I remember from that game is when I one day (after I had basically quit) logged into Runescape on my old name, and found that it had not been deleted. The login window said something along the lines of "Greetings, it has been 360 days since your last logon..." So I wasted another hour on it and never played again. It has now been far more than 360 days since my last logon. My little sister played it, which caused me no worry at all. Besides, she was younger when she got bored and left the game than I was when I just started. However, you don't have to be ten years old to go for a free, meaningless spare time activity. Try to find some falling sands application somewhere, see if it can keep your attention. Naturally I am in perfect agreement with such ideas as "Runescape provides no excitement" and "Runescape is no fun" - although there are others who enjoy it. But I am over it, man. Play something else, anything. Yeah, not WoW. Shadowbane? The future: Adellion |

Runescape is the proof that people aren't fit for anything along the lines of democracy... They don't DESERVE to rule themselves... God 750.000 people... While there are so many better (not saing good) free mmo's out there. I think those 10 year olds should be warned at school for the probable permanent brain damage one receives from Runescape. |

Complaining about a free/very cheap mmorpg now are we? Funny how when no-one likes a mmorpg they say it is played by kids. One day you could be playing a game made by one of them. Who'd be laughing then! No annoying animated GIF here! |

Yeah... because all MMO's are like runescape? Like this guy who once said: Stone can't fly, mother can't fly, therefore mother must be a stone. Runescape is pretty suck. Lots of better free MMOs. =========================================================== |

I would love it if some company made a game like runescape with all those things you can do but make sure it costs money so they can keep all the 10 year olds away. I would probably play runescape still if it wasn't full of spoilt little brats.

Actually, Runescape about 5-6 Years ago was amazing. I played it back then where it had one server, no members, little to no one under the age of 15 probably. Plus it was Open PvP Though I do have to give the devs some credit as they had a great marketing plan. 1)Keep it browser based so small kids can play it without downloading (parents may say no to downloading). 2)Start with free servers so people start to like it and then bring in the Pay2Play 3)Have both running at the same time so that people in free will be tempted to go P2P. ~Greatness~ MMORPG Blog |

Why are people harping on Runescape? Runescape originally and still is not intended for "hardcore" "serious" gaming. Its not your normal game. Okay, In other words, english ITS A BROWSER GAME, PEOPLE. YOU DONT BUY IT AT THE STORE. YOU DOWNLOAD IT AND PLAY IT FOR FREE!!!1111 If you dont like the game, then dont play it! Runescape isnt really all that bad - it really is the best starting MMO out there for novices to MMO's. If I were to "train" an MMO player, I would bring his first character to runescape - it has the basic elements of any MMORPG - leveling, advancement, crafting, item acquisition, friends, clans, trading. Its not a bad game for you to play when your on the run if your traveling. As a full time game I doubt you could stay awake in front of the computer clicking away to attack monsters. Buts its a free game, and it damn good marketing to have someone pay 5 bucks a month to have extra features. my Hats off to Jagex, they did a great job with a small game making it "big". Good job folks. Sincerely, Dr. Steelarm ------------------------------------------- Steelarm, Doctor of MMO gaming, ethics, and ideas. |

You know what happens when a pregnant woman plays Runescape? The baby comes out as a wad of lettuce.

I disagree with this idea that RuneScape is a good MMORPG to start out in. Any MMOG that lacks grouping is missing a dynamic in my opinion. That isn't really a good training ground. Having some idea of what tanking and healing are is more advantageous to your long term development. You don't just exploit whatever the developers have currently left unbalanced and call it a day in other games (unless you're PVP'ing I guess). Or, inexplicably, level the gimped combat style to the cap and then demand it be balanced every week. On the other hand, if you want to learn to be an anonymous paranoid introverted forum lurker like myself, I recommend RuneScape for training those aspects of your personality to a keen pitch. The downside is that the idiocy of the official community may well be bit-transferable. Creeping across the world's networks and devouring your mind, leaving only bleeding sub-dermal lesions like a psychic hemorrhagic fever. Its also good if you want to learn about the need to have security software and possibly hardware.
