My thoughts are as follows :

1) They are mixing things up, and putting more emphasis on skilled play

This will make the game more intense. The downside is probably is it a huge penalty to go AFK, even to grab a drink... no more AFK for 1 min while you put on auto attack and go get a drink. This game is really going to demand your fixated attention, no distractions.

2) No exp from killing monsters

This is generally good, and probably hurts the casual player some... you have to complete an entire quest before you get the exp. I have a feeling that a lot of the quests will be too long for the casual gamer to complete.

3) Graphics from unreal 2.5 engine

Graphics should be superb. Also I imagine it should have more of a real-time FPS feel to it than other MMORPGs, Howver I wonder if things will get lagged out bad in larger groups, and dial-up play I'll bet won't work so great, you'll need broadband.

4) Immersive world / lots of content

According to what I've read it should be a big world to explore with lots of content.

All in all it seems to me like it has the potential to be the best MMORPG yet.  I didn't even cover some of the other cool aspects like guild halls, earning statues of yourself, etc

The major downside that I see right now is it may be somewhat tough to play this game casually. However it doesn't sound as tough as Vanguard, which sounds much more like EQ1. Hehe those were the old days when I could afford to take an hour just to travel from one place to another and then another hour to get a group, and then spend 2 hours in a dungeon. That is what Vanguard sounds like to me.

I really am hoping someone can come up with a MMORPG that you can play for 1-2 hours and have fun and make progress. WoW was pretty good that way, but I think it can be improved upon quite a bit.

TCoS its self is going to be a very unique game..

the shard battles are going to the greatfun, think about it ,if you make a skill dead for one style of fighting in a massive war you can garantee someone is out there with a skilldeck just to beat you, so that wars are gonig to be very fair and balanace no worris about over powering classes like in wow and so many other games...

Items dont help your pvp or pve, so that will be good :)

this game has from what i saw in the videos great graphics, and the potential to really be a contender with all the big mmorpgs at present...

and part I love the most, all those kids who just want to pvp, farm for items, run bots & macros, will not be able to , so if you want to be good you need time and skill :D, this game will really reflect how much time you put into it, not who has the best bots and programs ^^

It seems to me that they're going for faster, more intense fights. But fights will probably not as long as in other mmos either. If even the longest fights won't take more then 10 to 15 minutes, this is not really a problem.

They already said that quests will be broken up into smaller steps. So a quest chain can be very long, but most of the steps within it can be done in an hour or less.

I believe its broadband only. They mainly went that way to be able to create a faster, more intense fighting system. The system demands are pretty high as well, right now they only support pixel shader 2.0 cards or better (ie gf 5x00/ati 9500+). I just hope that its not as bad as it sounds and the game will perform well on those cards.

The gameworld will actually be pretty small. According to the devs they keep the worldsize down to prevent huge amounts of travel. However, every place in the game will be filled to the brim with content and there will be a lot of secrets to discover.

I think the Vanguard devs were talking about 8 hour dungeons for the smaller or medium sized ones. :/
It seems to me that this game will actually be aimed at a pretty casual playstyle. They aim at skill above time and won't add things like raiding because of it.

The game sounds like it will be great, but theres a lot of new things that they're trying. I'm affraid myself that they just want to do too much and it doesn't work out as they hope it will. But at least the devs are trying and I give them huge props for it.

I just found out about this upcoming game a couple of days ago and I must say, after reading all the features it will have, my comment simply was WOW (not the game, hehe)!

The shard battles are such a great idea. They said they wanted to give PvP a reason for existing in the game, and what a better reason than fighting for new territories and defending already conquered ones against members of the other houses! I also like how they are going to combine PvE and PvP in the shard conquests and how it is going to be suitable for characters from different levels to participate.

The idea of having a statue of your alter-ego simply blows my mind, although I am not sure how it is exactly going to work. Are these statues going to be set in the permanent world? Because there is only limited space right, so how many statues could fit in there? Or is it going to be a kind of instanced room where you go to check out your staute? Anyways, I really really like that feature!

I also think it is such a great idea that not your loot is going to define who you are, but your skills. In some MMORPGs so could be the most skilled player but if you don't have the right weapon or armor or whatever you could not compete with the power gamers that had all the best items. Also, you will be able to llok like you would like your character to look like and don't have to trade in a good looking piece of equipment for a bad looking one just because the ladder one has better stats.

All in all I am really psyched about this game and will play it for sure once it is out. I migh have to buy a new graphic card though by the sounds of it :(

I am also very excited about this game.

I have one question though. Does anyone know anything about the interface and menu system? Some of the latest games (*cough* RF Online *cough*) really had some horrible user interfaces which made the games a pain to enjoy. I hope TCOS keeps it simple, with the option to customize.

the interface? there are some screenshots with the interface on it, and i think it was said you can scale it how you want move windows around a bit, but its not going to be in anyway as customizeable as wow's interface was...

and from what i've seen in the screen shots it looks simple enough but, wont know until open beta starts

I'm really worried about it not being item based. Its going to be diffrent.  I really think alot of people will lose the drive to play if there isn't that awesome weapon or armor everyone wants to get out there. I do like the new combat system and i think it will make the game very intense and fun to play.  Going to keep an open mind and give this a shot i think when it comes out.

I think it not being item based is a great thing. Well I dont know if it is actually going to be a great thing cos I've never played a game with this specific feature, but I think it has a lot of potential. It would let people focus more on the questing and the experience as a whole on not live to grind and farm for items. I dont know, its just my opinion, but I think its going to be great. Also you can still improve your items with enhancements to make them more unique.

I foresee problems unless they work a lot on their graphics. The animations, the texturing, the whole "immersion" is haywire currently, IMO.

OTOH, we have the skilldial. This single thing alone blasts anything RPGish off the table when it comes to tactical planning and "player-skill", including GW's 8-skills-at-a-time-lockout-system (which is already wicked).

No exp from killing + "customed items" = EBay Pain.... No Power lvling sevices, no item farming....

I drank what?

I think it is going to be a game that you either love for its uniqness (combat systems as detailed thus far) or you hate for the difficulty. With so many people playing WoW which has a farily basic and easy to understand combat system, many people that try it out will probably be upset with Spellborn at first.

I remember while beta testing DDO which has a very different combat system than WoW I felt a touch overwlemed for about an hour or so, which is when I got used to it. With the spell deck system in Speelborn it should be indepth combat to say the least.

Kind of reminds me of "Fable" by Lionhead std. with lower graphics.

Seems promising enough.

I for one cannot wait for the game to be out, im from the older school of mmorpgers out there being i started with Meridian 59 the first mmorpg out in 96 was released b4 UO or EQ, which is purely skill when u pvp(pvp 1v1 lastes a small 3 min, if ur good). i personally love the idea of skill decks. i loved SWG when it first came out for it was all skill based , then they went and made it a wow game with no skill involved. dont get me wrong im not dissin wow i enjoyed wow for a short period b4 the pretty graphics got old  and the same old quest after quest got me sick, same with eq2 love the pvp there and the quest system at first , but  at the same token i enjoy jus killin stuff for a bit rather then questing all the time, gets boring, yes u can grind out on wow and eq2 but the time comparision to questing is almost null and void. needless to say the engine will be great , the skill based system will be refreshing, no bots and such, no pling = a good time for me. everyone will have to put in the play if they want to be good. refreshing is what it will be not a clone of wow.

Reading up on this game, haven't followed it, but it's looking pretty promising to me. Points of concern for me are the combat system and how it will be to play fast paced in an MMO for hours on end, day in day out.

Looks a treat, though, can't wait for more in-game shots and movies. Really curious to see how it all works.

I'm really looking forward to this game, seems interresting. The skilldial is an excelent idea, adds alot of depth to the combat system - And unlike GW, where i often felt too limited in skill choices, this seems to promise quite alot of skills to use.

The house idea is also quite great, PvPing for a reason.
