Since skilled based games seem to be so hard to balance it seems with the NPC's. I was wondering why not let the NPC's gain experience and level as well just like a player can. Actually couldnt they even impliment a system where if an NPC gains x amount of XP. A flag is sent to devs or GM's which can then go in an updated the NPC increase the amount of attacks they can do and skills just like an player. This would definetely help in terms of game content as certain NPC's will certainly defeat enough players and thus create new targets for combat oriented players to hunt. Add this format to epic NPC's and you then truly will challenge the community. As for players who tend to go the route of non combatant. I was thinking of a system in which their success in creating items was based on their ability to solve puzzles, and so that players dont feel like their stats are not worth anything a system can be implimented where the puzzles difficulty is based on the rarity of the item being produced and the level of their characters stats determine how man clues they are given to solve the puzzle. It sounds like an excellent idea. Often players are portrayed by the amount of enemies they have killed, determining their "skill level". Solving puzzles is a real life skill that would affect your abilities in the game. Sounds awesome. |

Back in the days when Asheron's Call was still a new game, the critters in game would actually get xp off killing players. At some point there was a big story arc in which a bunch of large crystals had to be destroyed. This was in a PvP sector and soon there were attackers and defenders, the defenders would actually volunteer to be killed by the crystal to level it up.
On one of the six servers the defenders mamanged to keep the crystal alive, so the devs ended up cheating to destroy it. But as a reward for this acchievement the server got a unique statue to celebrate it. Later AC too removed the ability to level from the critters in game. |
