apparently SOE and PE are now working together on Gods and Heroes. They are handling marketing, pr, distrubution, and manufactoring for that game.

Meh. I'd reconsider what exactly tossing the baby out of with the bathwater accomplishes. Be careful not to connect dots that aren't really neccessary to connect. I'm not going to punch someone in the head because I have a problem with their second-cousin. i simply said if they buy it I'm out |

Sooner or later, the day comes when you can't hide from the things you've done. |

Well, so far, Sony OE's bought nothing. And if they were to become involved with STO as a publisher, they wouldn't have bought that either. |

God help us. If SOE gets a hold of this game I won't touch it, and I've been a Trek fan as long as I can remember. Same reason I'm not touching the DC online game. |

I tell you what as long as sony has no financial responsibility with the out come of STO I don't care how they may be involved. But as far as a game they own and control the cust service departments. I want no part of Shit On Equal, I am looking forward with much anticipation of STO. Cross fingers they get it right, I hate WOW!!!! |

This is bad news that SOE is going after Perpetual to get their hands on Star Trek Online . "As the recognized leader in online multiplayer gaming in North America, partnering with SOE's Platform Publishing division to publish Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising was an easy and obvious choice," said Chris McKibbin, co-founder and president of Perpetual Entertainment. "Nobody understands the retail channel for online games better than SOE." From http://www.perpetual.com/pages/news.html Someone must be drunk , stoned or now very ,very rich to make such a ridiculous and proven here and across the gaming industry such an untrue statement. I would offer Mr. McKibbin a |

SOE had the rights to STO, they had the chance back in 2000 and decided to go with SWG instead, they can't just go back and get it, they feel like they were idiots, but Perpetual won't sell. |

Oh please please say it isn't true. What ever gods that be please make it not so. Keep SOE out of STO. They did enough damage with their complete disregard for SWG and it's fan base. Their track record of alienating their clients and neglecting the larger issues of thier games speaks for itself. STO has the makings for an incredible next gen MMO. It's got the possibility of uniting the true Trekkies out there and those that just love a good SciFi adventure game. If SOE gets invovled they would inevitably do the same as they with SWG. They'd make their money out of it and we'll loose yet another good MMO to the power of fast cash. |

Paramount isnt owned by disney, its owned by viacom. Viacom is the one that owns MTV, CBS, UPN, and all those channels and numerous of other radio stations around the country. |

There are only three things that could ever stop me from playing this game: 1. My untimely death. 2. Hiring Raph Koster. 3. Selling it to SOE Otherwise I will be there on launch day. EQ1, EQ2, SWG, GW, CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War, and a slew of free trials and beta tests |

Sony as a mother in its whole has huge financial problems, a bit longer already. On the other hand, like stated already, Touchstone, Paramount, Warner, Disney, AOL (most parts of Warner were bought by AOL) and even Universal are in a financial condition, they could by most parts of Sony without the need to cash in a cheque before... Take "Blizzard" (WoW) for instance and why John Smedleys comment like "we beat the crap out of WoW" is so very hillarious, incompetent and showing a huge lack of common sense: Blizzard is part of the "Vivendi Group". You need to know, that Vivendi is located in France/Europe. While the Sony share dropped for almost 40% from 2002 till today (despite the fact they raised again this year), the Vivendi group even raised (from 21$ to 26$ since 2002). You also need to know, that the share of Sony is MORE (45$) then the Vivendi (26$), but the SOny volume is only about 490K while Vivendi's volume is almost 7 MILLION ! ...you do the math. IF some1 is buying anyone, then its is the Vivendi group, sucking off Sony faster then Smedley can release his last gas... Claude |

Paramount gave the right to make the game to PE, if SOE were to get in (which I doubt) they would only be a publisher sending the game to the public. I would'nt be suprised if Paramount attempts to publish it, itself but who knows what will happen. All I know is PE is making the game not SOE so we wont see any problems.

Although you're correct that Sony will never buy Paramount... you've got this a little mixed up. Paramount is owned by Viacom, not Disney. Viacom is the company that owns CBS, UPN, Paramount, MTV, and a whole bunch of other cable channels. There has never been any indication that Sony has any interest in buying or merging with Viacom... and such a monolithic merger would probably violate a whole bunch of anti-trust laws anyway. Having said that... since Paramount doesn't really have its own game division, I don't think it would be impossible for SOE to get involved somehow, but it's probably more likely that Viacom/Paramount sees Star Trek Online as their chance to get some of that MMO gravy that their friends/rivals at Universal are getting with WoW. I wasn't planning to purchase Gods&Heroes, but on the other hand I wasn't deliberately making a choice not to buy it. Now that it seems SOE is affiliated with the game I won't touch it... "SWG refugees of the world- unite! " |

Completely agree. One of the best posts I have read on the state of Sony on any forum. Thanks for the info and the smart post, ClaudeFR. As to the topic - you know Smed is drooling over STO. It has the potential to be THE Sci-Fi MMORPG on the market and that equals cash cow. I am also hoping that Sony will not be part of this deal in any way. People may point out that its only distribution but again like I posted in the SWG forum - it creates POSSIBILITY. Should STO be more than they can handle - SOE, who at that point has their hand already into some of it, could easily say, "Hey, we see you got your hands full. How about we help you with some of it?" Little bit by little bit, SOE grabs more turf. And if PE brings in another company, SOE has a little sway in the matter by saying - "Sorry, we can't work with company x. Strictly business reasons, you see." Didtribution would be threatened. The simple truth of this whole thing is found in the old saying - "If you jump in bed with the devil, sooner or later someone is going to get screwed."
