Lol supposing he actually is new to mmorpg.com he has learned his lesson.

You don't ask opinions about new games on a site filled with people that fell in love with their game more than a decade a ago and have hated everything since.

If you want real opinions go to the official forums and behold more complaints than you could ever read from people that actually play the game.

Not aggravated just like Splenda in my coffee.

Well, my experience with the official Wildstar forums may vary from yours, but they certainly are not the one and only place for "most qualified opinions".  I personally find that forums even more extreme than mmorpg.com considering that only a very specific group of persons actually use them (generally those who really deeply hate that game and want all the other players to know this and those who think Wildstar is the most genius thing since the invention of sliced bread).

And a conservative bias in opinions like here doesn't have to be a bad thing per se. It actually depends on your own mindset/ expectations and is also an important part of personal rights. I don't think it's completely inconceivable that enough people on mmorpg.com played Wildstar despite a more conservative mindset. So, it remains a legit place to ask for opinions and complaints regarding that game ...

BTW: if the official forums are so much better, why do you even bother to waste your time in these subforums here? It seems a bit contradictory at least. Don't get me wrong: I don't mind your resentment regarding these forums and you can stay here as long as you want (not that you need my permission in the first place ;)), but it seems a bit weird nontheless :p

Maybe it's an NC$oft thing? The GW2 forums are exactly like this. People just there to troll and complain, people who think the game is the messiah of gaming, and maybe 2 or 3 actual people with opinions on how the game could be better and post constructively. The rest is all nonsense.

mmorpg.com is run by NCSoft?!?!?!?!  I knew something fishy was going on....

It all makes sense now! Haha

Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV

Man I wanted to like WIldstar, I used to think it would become my new WOW (as far as how much I played it).

First beta came and I LOVED IT.. Then beta stopped and I started to play SWG and I actually fell in love with it too.  Then Second beta invite came and I could not stay logged into WIldstar for more then 30 mins at a time...

For me it came down to two things..

1.  Classes:  they were just not that much fun to play, even at early levels compared to other games like WOW and SWG

2.  Telegraphs:  Just far TOO MANY damn telegraphs....I just could not deal with it, I felt like I was playing the telegraphs and not the game.  My attention for some reason always stayed looking at the bright lights around my feet and not the character or game world.

Wildstar seemed like a pretty well made and polished game.  But those two issues where just to much for me to handle.

Decent game, lot of good things in it.  But it was just dreadfully boring for me.

Playing: Smite
Played: Nexus:Kingdom of the Winds, Everquest, DAoC, Everquest 2, WoW, Matrix Online, Vangaurd, SWG, DDO, EVE, Fallen Earth, LoTRo, CoX, Champions Online, WAR, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Guild Wars, Rift, Tera, Aion, AoC, Gods and Heroes, DCUO, FF14, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar, ESO, ArcheAge
Waiting On: Nothing really, though Black Desert looks pretty amazing so far.

Hmm as of right now I have yet to have any real complaints about this one.  My wife and I have been playing for about two weeks now and we still love it.  We are enjoying the humor very much, its a nice breath of fresh air compared to everything else out there that seems so serious.  The art style isnt the greatest but its not bad at all its actually a beautifully done world.  Combat is not a face roll event either you have to  pay attention which keeps us involved.  The questing is for the most part the same as you have seen a million times but that doesnt bother me much because there isnt this wall of text when you pick up a quest and most of them take you places that are actually fun to go.

In closing I must say that I am really enjoying myself with this one,  which was unexpected I thought I would hate it but quite the opposite.  Not sure how long we will stick with it but atm we have no intentions of stopping anytime soon.  Hats off to you NCSoft.

I want to game in the world I want when I want.

Based on this statement i would be more inclined to subscribe to mmos if i could freeze my subscription manually when i know i wont be playing, knowing that my remaining paid time will be there waiting for me to manually resume it again on my account.

This needs to become a thing, IMO.

Yeah this is a big turn-off. The pressure it creates, feel the same way as Torvaldr.

Should be like this:

If you buy game time, let's say 30 days only when you log in that day 1 day should be substracted.

Either that or reduce costs to 1/3 or have a feature based model

Like

- hardware and software maintenance costs

- supporting development of new content (and thus getting access to it)

- advanced customer support

- live events (whatever happened to those)

all combined for 15€/month

or each part depending on how much it costs

hard & software should be like 1-2€ / month, wouldn't mind paying that 10k players paying 2€ / month - that's enough to support a big cluster of dedicated servers including maintenance.

development of new content, whatever happened to this? subscription costs back in the day were justified by us receiving new content on a regular basis. if we're paying a subscription why do we have to buy expansion packs?

advanced customer support apart from the basic self-help tools like "I'm stuck" or "I met a bug". actually I wouldn't know what I would use it for.

live events, a relic of the past it seems. DMs creating an in-game live experience by pretending to be an invader or sending players on truffle hunts with rewards or organized races or whatever. With linear tier-based and instanced content those seem to have vanished. For instance when I played Vanguard I would walk around town and see a zombie emoting. I would be curious and approach it. Since I was a shaman I would draw the conclusion that from the way it acted it was somehow diseased or cursed. So I cast cure disease or curse on it and it turned into a beautiful female that gave me some tokens I could use to receive items. That was pretty awesome.

Can't get in since patch fails for about a week now so I guess that means something else to do. But maybe attunement process is a bit long especially when you do it on multiple characters like I have. But I don't want to see anything dumbed down all you need is to be in a guild with people who want to do it.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

I can quote your quote of his quote........THIS is MMORPG.com in a nutshell.

Just endlessly quote the opinion above you....change the color in some text.....admire your own brilliance.

It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.

I just want to say that I will not try this game because it looks like a cartoon.  Take heed and bow down to my opinion.  Thank you for the one or two seconds of your time.

Or it could be based on the opinion of the person typing as to which colors are easier to read mixed with white text on a gray background.

Was your goal to aggravate me?  Is that why every time I try to discuss a complaint with you in this thread about complaints located in "General Discussion" you beat around the bush rather than answering my questions?  Well sir that certainly is aggravating.  Definitely feeling a little irked at this point.  ....and out> That sounds more like the actions of a common troll than a reliable, 15k post, 5 star member.  As someone that has become very familiar with your posts over the years I can honestly say you are no common troll.  There there must be some deeper meaning to your wisdom.  I WILL FIGURE IT OUT!!!!

Pink is excited with a hint of lavender.

Heh, that had nothing to do with you I was just being silly. I do the same thing (use yellow or red as it highlights nicely against the black backdrop.)

As for the rest, I think you're reading far too much into my replies. I was only saying people seem to expect more from questing systems than what WIldstar delivered on. Nothing more nothing less.

1) Optimization - Wildstar runs terrible and really isn't even close to looking as good as FFXIV or ESO.  It's on par with WoW, and a lot of the newer areas in WoW look better.

2) Lag - Repeatedly disconnecting from PvP and adventure areas.  Players in chat report lag in questing areas, although I haven't experienced this.

3)  Primes - I don't understand the logic behind placing group mobs smack in the middle of solo questing areas.  It's tolerable as long as there are plenty of players running around the leveling areas who join in the fight, but once the population dies down (which it will), players are going to get trolled repeatedly if they're not paying attention.  I don't think they should exist at all. At the very least, place a marker above the mob's name, so that it's easier to identify the primes unless you're viewing a mob's hit points.

4)  Attunement system -

 http://media.hiddenarena.com/images/wildstar/2014/june/raid_attunement/raid_attunement_infographic.jpg

Absolute garbage that will kill the game if not drastically altered.

I've followed MMORPG.com for longer than I've posted in the forums. My complaint isn't about the people complaining in this forum. My biggest complaint is the number of people who complain about things in Wildstar and any new MMORPG for that matter. I am a part of the Wildstar forums and the #1 thing I see is complaints about how people feel they are entitled to stuff they want in the game, items, etc. and are having a difficult time obtaining them by earning it.  The game came out a month ago and rather than playing for x amount of time to achieve things, people are already complaining like they should be given said things. I'm posting that complaint here because I think it is relevant to the MMORPG community since this is what I perceive is killing any new MMORPG that hits the market. I used the comparison of non-MMORPG games as an example of saying we tend to enjoy them more since we can't really complain for anyone to give us anything or change anything via patch or ticket.

I've been visiting here for a long time as well, long before my registration date actually.

I do agree with your entitlement argument. You can't expect all games to be what you personally want.

The thing is this thread was made for this very purpose, so I can't blame people for airing their complaints here.

I don't have anything really bad to say about what I saw in WS, then again I don't have very much praise to give it either, I"m pretty much indifferent toward it, it's just not what I want in a themepark MMO. I play them for questing (duoing with the wife) and not much more, it's focus is different, it's a top heavy game, made for dungeons and Raids, the two things I dislike most in my MMORPG's. I'd never ask them to change a thing.

One thing I do think that is related to this topic (based on other replies here). People need to realize that just because someone posts a complaint doesn't mean they're a troll, bitter, burnt out, or what have you.. Folks need to stop over generalizing everyone who posts their thoughts, simply because their opinions differ. There's more of that going on on this site than really anything else. It's a defense mechanism, aimed at demonizing the other side of a debate. It's not productive, and undermines any point you might make afterward.

There is to much wrong with the game to pick a biggest complaint. My complaint is the dev team as a whole. Though my number 1 dislike among them is the PvP team and specifically Bardic. She hated criticism and only listened to those who kissed her ass. PvP is my largest disappointment with WildStar.

TimeTravel was awesome though, he worked with the players during early to late beta and the content his team created was pretty entertaining at least then.

Also I seen a lot of complains about lag and instability. The servers weren't tested and weren't ready for release, it was rushed. The server team wasn't happy about it at all.

I didn't sub, the game started off as something great but its uniqueness was snuffed out for more simplistic quality of life "improvements".

1. Look up the word "generic" and you will find WildStar.

2. The God awful level grinding that is mind numbingly boring. Go get 8 of this, go collect 5 of that etc

3. The classes. They aren't much fun.

4. I've played WoW, this is just WoW in space with lazers instead of casting fireballs.

Compliments

1. The art style. I actually didn't mind it, and love it or hate it you can't' crucify Carbine for trying to be different!

2. The FPS and performance was good, although I have a pretty beasty RIG. No problems for me here. Avg FPS is about 45-50

I don't think the future for this game is very bright. We already had a WoW clone that came along and made end game raiding its thing, and even went above and beyond anything WS does in the way of dynamic events such as zone invasions, world invasions etc, it was called RIFT.

It didn't stop RIFT going F2P, and it had alot more going for it then WS.

I agree, also if they truly worked 7 years on a wow copy thats kinda silly.
I wish i lived in the US and worked as a game designer , every year i feel those guys are getting more and more clueless.
Maybe this game can survive with half a mill subs and keep going like Final fantasy but thats my must optimistic view towards it.
P.S If they made this game like 5-7 years ago maybe it had a chance of big success but now days even altough its a nice polished game many people just wont be able to connect to it cuz it yells "been there done that" on every corner.

Complaints:

The thing is A little over a year ago the game wasn't like this. It was a completely different beast and a much better one. The character progression system changed 4 times, the first one was the best, you had stat and ability allocation points. The gear progression along with crafting changed quite a bit. You went from being able to customize almost every stat on your gear to being locked. They nerfed and kept nerfing various items and abilities then removed them all together.

A lot of the fun was wiped. Characters went from feeling badass to pathetic. I still think a majority of the fun of an mmoRPG is unique character progression, sadly dev teams want everything dressed in the same suit.

My biggest complaint are the amount of people complaining. Seriously, what is killing the MMORPG genre are people who complain. If you pick up any other game that's not an MMORPG do you complain about anything? It's like a plague that spreads: one person starts complaining about something, and everyone else jumps in. There's nothing in the game I can find to complain about. I am thoroughly enjoying it!

Agreed. People love tearing stuff down and usually don't have anything positive to say or have any positive criticisms. Yes, W* is not perfect, but it is good enough and I am enjoying myself overall.

OMFG CARBINE IS RACIST AGAINST PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE SMARTPHONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(yes I know smartphone isn't a race yet but need that dramatic forum ignorance)

You can download an application for your PC that is linked to whatever type of authenticator you want. No need for a smartphone. Google WinAuth. It is not a perfect solution, but it is far better than going along without a protected account.

Despite my having a smartphone I had to go with this because my version of BlackBerry OS is not supported by Google Authenticator This is something imho Carbine needs to change i.e. offering a physical authenticator. I would get one of those in a heartbeat if Carbine starts offering them.

Just wait until you see red bold. Then you know you are in the doo doo.

I am in the "it's just not for me" category, and it will never be because the things I don't like is fundamentals that won't change. Art style is one. The simple fps style combat is boring, and I absolutely hate the exxagerated use of effects. All you see is a lightshow and flashy numbers flying left and right, and out of the mist a few health bars .. If it weren't for the health bars you would probably keep fighting long after stuff is dead because you cant see whats happening. I got this feeling that gw2 also gave me that, it's cool and some nice details but after a short while combat gets dull and then turns to annoying, and then I start to wonder what is the point of this? By that time, You start to see that You are just beeing herded by the game.. The game is playing You and not the other way around.

Anyways, as I said none of this will change in Wildstar, so I don't really have anything to say other than it's not for me.

I am starting to thing that most of the people on this site don't even play the games they complain about.  They just hear some one bitch then just repeat what they hear over and over without a clue.   I keep reading these posts about all the quests are the same kill this collect that but that is just a bunch of bull.  I have run tons of quests that require you to do many things other than just kill and collect.

I have had to fight my way through enemy territory to shut down radar towers, I have had to go behind enemy lines to release captured refugees,  I have had to ride on huge water spraying robots and put out wild fires.  I have had to chop my way through fallen debris and work my way down an underground tunnel to rescue trapped children,  I have had to relocate burned and endangered wild life.

There are plenty of out of the norm quests in wildstar,  I just seems to me that people really enjoy complaining weather they know what they are talking about or not.  Sure there are quests that send you out to do battle with enemies but there are plenty out there that have you do something completely different.  I get it that you don't like wildstar but at least when you complain about it know what it is your talking about and have a legitimate complaint not just repeat everything you hear without having played and stop lying about playing your not fooling anyone.

How can you blame people for picking up the content they see around them? I just don't get it. People into quests are going to try out the quests, not a hard concept to swallow. You act as though criticism of said "generic" content is wrong. It's there, it's part of what you're paying for. Criticism is part of why we're here is it not? it's also the main topic of this thread...

Why should Developers pander to obsessive-compulsive behavior when it's quite clear and plain obvious that it's not mandatory, nor recommendable to do every quest? It's quite evident that devs have provided us with options to have as much personalized and custom experience as possible, with aims to level up alts in a drastic different manner.

Not talking just about Wildstar, will leave a general idea here:

You cannot fix stupidity or mental disease. The day publishers & developers understand this and that any attempt to cater to this states of mind is plainly nihilistic we might start having more decent games.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.

Donny: Are these the Nazis, Walter?

Walter Sobchak: No, Donny, these men are nihilists. There's nothing to be afraid of.

Walter Sobchak: Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

Nihilist #3: She though we'd be getting million dollars!

Nihilist #2: Iss not fair!

Walter Sobchak: Fair! WHO'S THE FUCKING NIHILIST HERE! WHAT ARE YOU, A BUNCH OF FUCKING CRYBABIES?
