http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-23-crysis-developer-crytek-claims-bankrupt-report-is-false

Crysis developer Crytek has denied claims it is on the verge of bankruptcy.

A recent report from German magazine GameStar claimed Crytek, which has its headquarters in Frankfurt, was in financial trouble and that the development of Xbox One exclusive Ryse: Son of Rome had been a "disaster".

Our colleagues at Eurogamer Germany looked into the report, and gave me the following translation:

"'The vultures are circling already,' so says a leading employee of one of the large publishers. Companies like this have already started making offers to the most talented people at Crytek, to hire them away. Such a brain drain can become dangerous for any studio, even a financially stable one.

"A takeover of Crytek would be interesting for a company, that could use the development-experience of the Crytek and doesn't want to build up such experience itself. That is why the Belarus F2P-giant Wargaming is rumoured to be a potential buyer.

"When you are reading this, there is hope that Crytek has managed to avoid disaster. A new source of money, said Avni Yerli [one of the managing directors], is in sight. When we called him in early June, the contract had not yet been signed, but will be in a short while. 'Not all is good. Our transition to become a F2P-studio had been painful. But all that is now behind us.'"

You can stop being excited now.

Perhaps this can serve as a cautionary tale for future video game developers.

Only push the tech envelope as far as the market will allow.

I think they will be ok, other companies like Square Enix and Capcom have been in far worse situations and multiple times through out their history and now they are some of the richest game companies.  Plus that article only tells me that they are still developing Homefront 2 with the team from Ryse 2 and the fact that they recently showed a walkthrough at E3.  Every game company goes through these things.

Looking forward to Black Desert, Kingdom Under Fire II and Skyforge.

I really hope they get through their problems because regardless of how people feel about them I am a huge fan of Crytek.

Hunted: Horrors Of The Gilded Age is the game I am looking foward to.

IMO - their games are the issue.

If they scale down and focus on cryengine only - that would save the company. They are spreading themselves too thin with games, many off which are subpar.

Crytek was missing payroll 3 months ago, and employees were already applying for other jobs at that time.   Crytek is probably done.

its just history repeating itself . factor5 went under back when the ps3 was new . all it takes is 1 big game to flop and well known companies can vanish . every generation of consoles has companies that go under . the "culling" is in effect

Their problem isn't that they pushed the tech envelope. Just the opposite is true. They founded their company on the principal that they would push the tech envelope and then they let console tech limit them horribly. If they had of continued what they started with Far Cry 1 and Crysis 1 they probably wouldn't be in trouble now. They let console tech hold them back from showing what their engine could really do. The cautionary tale here is if you're going to claim you're going to push the boundaries of what new tech can do you better do it and not just push out console trash like everyone else.

Pushing expensive tech to chase a miniscule segment of PC gamers finally caught up to Crytek and this is the price of their hubris.

And now Homefront is even being developed at all

All the Crysis Games had better reviews than Ryse and Crysis 1 and 2 had more sales than Ryse, Crysis 3 almost the same amount in sales and thats only counting the sales on the 360 version not all plarforms put together.

Eurogamer:

Crysis 3: 7/10 Crysis 1: 9/10 Ryse: 5/10

Metacritic:

Crysis 3: 76 Crysis 1: 91 Ryse: 60

IGN:

Crysis 3: 8.4 Ryse: 7.6

Gamespot:

Crysis 3: 7.5 Ryse: 4

Gametrailers

Crysis 3: 9 Ryse: 7

Sales Figures: Crysis 2 (Xbox 360) Global 1.27 million // Crysis 3 (Xbox 360) Global 0.80 million

Ryse : 0.91 million

it says that the Ryse was a disaster and I'm not surprised they didn't sell well since it's only limited to Xbox One which already is in much lower unit numbers than PS4 because they decided to just limit the number of countries they'll launch Xbox One :D

Not sure if they'll recover so easily especially after people are already leaving the company since they have no money to pay them.

Uh, no one no where said Ryse was a disaster.

Where did you see that?

Or is that your personal bias talking?

From the article you linked:

"Despite the staff departures, our source said that following the cancellation of Ryse 2, many developers from the Frankfurt office – where the sequel to the Xbox One launch title was to be made – are now working with Crytek UK on Homefront."

If Ryse was not such a disaster they would not have cancelled Ryse 2 and send its entire team to make Homefront 2,  and the first homefront was not that successful either but apparently more successful than Ryse which kind of tells you something.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-23-crysis-developer-crytek-claims-bankrupt-report-is-false

"A recent report from German magazine GameStar claimed Crytek, which has its headquarters in Frankfurt, was in financial trouble and that the development of Xbox One exclusive Ryse: Son of Rome had been a "disaster"."

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/crytek-in-deep-trouble-adoption-of-cryengine-not-good-ryse-development-catastrophic/

"Not only that, but Gamestar claims that the development of Ryse was "catastrophic" for the studio. Just mere months before its release, the game was severely behind and Crytek was able to complete it with additional manpower. And from what we’ve seen thus far, Ryse did not sell as well as Crytek hoped (especially for a console exclusive)."

Other than all this, it only takes common sense to see the obvious.  Bad Reviews from every reviewer + Low Sales + Company in financial crisis right after their latest games release =

Man some of you are just obsessed with trying to put down the xbox one anytime you can, kinda silly to tell you the truth.    You go so far to turn words around.  They said the development was  "catastrophic" not the game.  The development was a "disaster" not the game. In six months according to your vgcharts they sold almost a million copies.   Almost as much as C2 and already beat C3.  So to try and put the blame on Ryse and turning around the quotes is pretty ignorant.

Please try and do some research...here is the real reason Ryse 2 was cancelled.

"Ryse 2 was cancelled because of a conflict between Crytek and Microsoft over who would own the rights to the franchise. In exchange for funding Ryse 2's development, Microsoft wanted to take over theRyse intellectual property, something Crytek couldn't agree to, so both parties decided not to continue.[6]"

Bad reviews from every reviewer?

A solid? is bad

http://www.gamesradar.com/ryse-son-of-rome-review/

Good is bad?

http://www.gamezone.com/games/ryse-son-of-rome

Average user rating on gamestop is a 8.3 is that bad?

Now feel free to turn your light bulb on and try to understand all that.  And also turn off the glowing, bright, blinking xb1 hater light its showing like crazy on your threads, it really hurts your credibility.

You realize your only comparing crysis 3 and 2 sales from only one system right?

PS3 0.73 mill, 360 0.80 mill, PC 0.45 mill  Total Crysis 3 Sales: 1,980,000 Copies Sold  550,684 sold in 4 Days from Release date February 19th 2013

Crysis 2: PS3 1.20 mil, 360 1.27 mill, PC 0.70 mill Total Crysis 2 Sales: 3,170,000 About a million sold in 2 weeks from release date March 11th 2011

Crysis 3 sold 297,825 on the 360 within 4 days from release

If it took Ryse that long only to sell a little less than a million than thats bad

Ryse sold badly compared to other Xbox One Exclusives like Dead Rising 3 which was 1 million in less than a month from release.  Pretty much compared to majority of AAA titles Ryse sold poorly.

Do I have to link all the bad reviews that Ryse got again?

Ryse was just a pretty game and that was the only good thing about it.  The first time I played it I ran into a bug within 10 minutes at the place where I was fighting beside his father that made me restart the game because the Father froze in place.

And  no one is attacking xbox, only a fanboy like you see it that way.  We are talking about Ryse in comparison to Crysis series here so I dont know where you got "Man some of you are just obsessed with trying to put down the xbox one anytime you can" from.
