Hi everyone,

Just wanted to get people's opinion on the actual game interface - not just the physical UI, but isn't there just TOO MUCH STUFF going on your screen at any given time?

It truly gets confusing with SO MANY systems to keep track of, and automatic window pop-ups and not only indicators on the screen, but interruptions from NPC's hailing you over the radio spewing generic statements <---- this just get's downright annoying after a time.

Another example is the "CHALLENGE!!" pop up that just appears out of thin air.  Sometimes all these pop-ups happen at the same time!  You are trying to address an NPC locally when another NPC radio's in to you with another quest update.

It's hard to explain, but I feel there is just "TOO MUCH GOING ON" and it's way too busy to just enjoy the scenery and run a few quests without getting caught up in the "paperwork".

What do you guys think?

Up until literally yesterday, I was in love with this game.  Then I went to the third or fourth zone (currently Level 17) and it just dawned on me that there are just too many quests to accept all at once with som many places to run to and kill stuff.  It's becoming repetitive already.  I've got about 25 quests all active and all close ot each other and I feel like as soon as I complete one I get two more - I'm not compelled to read the text as I'm just rushing to get everything done, because I've also got hardly and cash for crafting etc so need to get a move on to make money.

But it is all starting to seem endless and repetitive.  I think I prefer more of a quest arc where you have chains that don't open until you've done previous stuff.  Instead of you being able to walk into a zone and pick up 25 quests without any effort (and be overwhelmed), they should just move you around the zone in a number of constructed stories.

Some will now tell me not to accept all the quests then, but if I don't take them, then the stuff I'm already killing will probably have to be re-done as soon as I pick another quest up, so I may as well get them all and kill stuff as I go.

The game is starting to lose it's appeal though as I'm not sure I can face another 33 levels of manic questing.

The realization is that this happens in every game.  The questing and leveling is always so terrible because we are all used to playing a game at max level.  When players are used to that, they never want to go through a tedious leveling process again, ever.  That is why most games fail in the end, players get bored of leveling and just want max level characters so they can start the real grind.  The reason though that they need leveling or skill progression is for newcomers to the genre to learn how to play an MMORPG.

Everyone already has the thrill of getting to level 50 and starting the real hard modes and grind for personal achievements of beating veterans and raids, heck I am dying to get there and am struggling through questing myself.  I take breaks rather than power through it.  I pvp or dungeon run with the guild.

Yes, I completely agree. The level of things that you are bombarded with at any given time was a major turn off for me. The game is a lot of fun, but I think I would need to be in the mood for it.

HOLY ****, CUPCAKE, YOU LEVELED UP!! ..... *chirp chirp* *NPC rambling while I'm trying to kill stuff* ..... NPC says "Awww you thought you were finished, here's another 10 quest as a follow up to that one ....... DOUBLE KILL!!! TRIPLE KILL!!! ......"Oh and here's a whole bunch of settler thingies I should be picking up too.... *chirp chirp*

Don't get me wrong, I think it's all pretty funny and a good time, but I just wanted to relax after a while. I definitely can't say I was bored or out of things to do that's for sure.

Yehp...

Thought that in beta. It really feels like a video game than an mmo experience for me.

You couldnt be more wrong.

Most games fail because the leveling process is too short.  Character development (non gear based) is the core of RPGs and if that process goes by in the blink of an eye no one cares about their character and leave when they are tired of repeating the same dungeons over and over and over and over.  I have yet to see an endgame that isnt infinitely more repetitive than the leveling portion.

OP is right though, the experience can just get a little too chaotic.  Challenge here, NPC communication there, quest completion, select level up rewards, etc.  Wildstar is like a hyper child sometimes.

The other issues I've thought about is quests trying to tell you a story - it's impossible.

You have 25 or so quests on the go and many are fairly close to each other so you work at completing the nearest one to you I.e. It's objective. There is no hope of retaining the thread of any stories in there as you can't possibly do them in order. It's impossible to follow what's going on.

The manicness of it all is wearing off but I like everything else about the game. Hope they consider toning it down a bit.

Make worlds not stories

The ridculous amount of effects and stuff that goes on is the reason I won't play this game. I also prefer a more relaxed game experience where I initiate most of the action, instead of having too much choices pushed on me. But each has their definition of fun, and how high a stress factor they like, so game on.

Assault on my senses is what it felt like for me in Beta. Playing Wildstar is like spending time inside of a busy Las Vegas Casino - after 30 min I just feel drained from the onslaught of noise, flashing lights and general chaos. Some find it exciting. I find it torturous.

It is pretty aggressive on the senses.

For some it's a good thing, for others it's not.

I rather have many quests. I know where I'm starting and I know where the end is. Everything in between is a grind. And I rather do that with everything in surplus than being forced to do one thing.

But I think I understand OP. All the type of "missions" and some of them just pop up because you killed one certain type of mob. Sometimes it's hard to choose which way to go :-)

But I rather have that difficulty because of surplus, than because of shortage.

You are right, this happens in all MMO´s... On top of that, with games like ESO and Wildstar that are heavilly based on sepperate stories for every zone, the story immersion gets lost at first when you enter a new zone... and it each time feels like you need to start all over again...

In general what works good for me in this game is just following the main story and doing only the side quests that come on my direct path... doing the mainstory and switching between PvP and Group PvE makes the game come much more alive post level 20...

If you however truely fell the repetition, this means that you are better of leaving MMO´s behid... because no matter what, games that you play for hundreds of hours will become repetitive at some point..

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I found myself dropping quests I often got quests above or below my level  they do kinda throw a lot at you but in a way it's good it feels like theres a mountain to do.  it feels hectic which is better than linear and dead like eso I guess.  once I get my house tho I am shifting my direction since I saw you can craft so much for your house on your own

so say we all

Just set the level of the music back to 40% ... makes it much more bearable for an old timer like me...   And dont play longer then 3 hours straight.... and then take an hour break

Actually the game makes me feel like a little boy at Disney World or Universal Studios.

I tried beta and after watching the annoying "Disco Lights" for 2-3 days there was only one way to fix it:

- uninstalled -

It was just horrible....disco light animations, overloaded UI, no immersion and boring quests.

Wildstar is just pure show and trying hard to offer "action".

These "show elements" dont let you dive into a different world and enjoy it.  It feels rather like a multiplayer video game.

I have been enjoying the scenery and exploration from Wildstar. I think they got alot of the things right and the OP is somewhat correct saying there is alot going on but would you rather be too bored? I find it kind of exciting to be honest that so much is going on. It's not as drab and boring as say ESO (beautiful game nonetheless but not enough going for it otherwise). I think what people try to do and end up getting overwhelmed is they try to speed through quests without taking the proper time to enjoy the story lines, take their time (wont' be so hectic if you do this), and socialize, find crafting mats while taking a break from questing. Set a goal for yourself that you will do such and such for an hour and then worry about something else the next hour. It's not hard to solve the "problem" yourselves. In all honesty the only thing i don't find appealing about this game is the soloability. It can be a bit difficult for a caster (esper) right now. I've been playing both WoW and Wildstar and am tempted to go back to ESO for the storylines too but not until they release player and npc nameplates. They failed with that and i left since it wasn't even an option. MANY people left due to that one issue matter of fact. No nameplates is NOT immersive or non immersive, it's an mmo standard no matter what. Simple as that.

I tried beta and after watching the annoying "Disco Lights" for 2-3 days there was only one way to fix it:

- uninstalled -

It was just horrible....disco light animations, overloaded UI, no immersion and boring quests.

Wildstar feels like a video game and rather not like an mmorpg.

Maybe they should make an old mans addon, that switches the bright light arcade effects off or three levels down.....  If this option would make more people enjoy the game, i would say, sure thing add this...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

You are right, this happens in all MMO´s...

Rubbish.

I can't think of any other MMO, including WoW, that condensed zone questing in such a way that Wildstar does it. Duskwood in WoW is a great example of how it should be done. Yes it has a small hub, and simultaneous questing, but they balanced progression through the zone and the pace very well, that it never felt grindy/repetitive. But not just Duskwood, you can pick almost any WoW vanilla zone and see that this is true.

I'm just using WoW as an example, but every other themepark MMO I've played has had a fairly nice progression.

I don't rush around .I take my time read and play. I was grouped with someone who wanted to rush got fed up with my pace but was reluctant to leave so I told him  to leave but he refused. So I left then came back ten minutes later and quested at my pace. People rush because everyone is always in a hurry. You may not realise this but you're doing it subconsciously ,you need to craft, get money, get mount, level and so on. Stop, take things slower and savour the game. It will become routine soon enough so take the experience slowly.
