2 years, please, if you think dayz is the best in the survival genre your crazy. Plus what game is the "one" survival game to play?

For me - none - I played them all and have grown tired of zombie survival games, just done with them.

Its always the same thing:

Find stuff, build things, kill/avoid zombies/players - stupidly shallow gameplay.

No innovation.

There no RPG elements - no skills, no progression, no depth of systems  - which means it gets old to me in about a week.

SoE on one hand is working on EQNext - why not bring some of that tech and innovation into this?

So, what you say goes. Thanks for this, I ll be sure to check your posts on any game from now on, before I buy it.

So, with the extra time added to the ETA I predict there will be more time added and we'll be getting this at the time of SOE live in August, lol. They've already said they'll have the game there.

This is SOE we're talking about.  No one is getting anywhere close to the game until they've sold all the alpha access passes they think they can.

By genre I mean MMOs in general. Which is fine, but take it and go play Skyrim or Resident Evil or something.

With the current model of mmorpgs, I think every company does that.

No. Actually H1Z1 will be the first AAA zombie survival mmo.

No - it's a first zombie game made by a major studio. I see nothing AAA about it yet.

And the top of that other zombie survival games not actually an mmo.

Again I disagree - not DayZ standalone is a MMO. H1Z1 will have private server too which are going to be exclusive for those who buy tokens to play on them - those servers might only have a few 100 players - so very much like DayZ SA. So private H1Z1 servers are not an MMO because they might have fewer players?

But H1Z1 will be an mmo with a huge map and massive amount of population like Planetside 2. On top of that H1Z1 got amazing features that no other zombie survival mmo got.

Like - what amazing features? except the support of more players per world?

All players on this forum just looking the genre and says it is a Dayz clone lame.... Well you know what? It is not... First go reddit and read what they are doing with this game then come here and judge... They got a lot of features that we always want. H1Z1 is not a classic zombie survival which all you do is killing other players.

It's not a Day-Z clone - it's a zombie survival game clone - they're all 90% the same WHY? Why can't we have a MMORPG that is a zombie survival game - with classes, and roles and dungeons and skills? I tell you why SoE is not doing it - because they don't have a 100mil budget and 4 years - they're doing this quick/cheap H1Z1 game that's probably not going to break even 10mil budget - because it's not bringing anything new and amazing to the zombie genre. It's *incrimentally* better than the rest, not any kind of a revolutionary game.

Why is a zombie survival game always SO FOCUSED on a very simple aspect - gather/craft kill/avoid zombies/players? Why? I mean there is so much potential for some real RPG depth - but nope.

And about pve servers... Last time they actually said that they're thinking about it. They didn't said that there will be no pve servers.

Again *thinking about it* - that means not really want to do it - because coding NPCs to be intricate costs more money and more dev time - and they want to get this out ASAP - which is the main driving force here - it's not "lets get a really cool deep game that will revolutionize the genre". The driving force is - get it out fast and cheap

Again - my 2c

For me the fact that none of the games have officially released makes no difference at all - been playing zombie survival games for years now (since Arma mod) - some were dreadful (war-z) most were mediocre.

The issue is not a bloated genre - the issue is how singularly focused zombie survival games are - they are all too much alike -  it's like there's some mortal sin if you step even a foot outside the box and make the games have *any* depth - like introducing RPG elements or skills.

I will not disagree with DK in on the feeling of them rushing this game out the door for a cash grab. I do however understand why they are doing it. There is no game available for this niche yet. Everything is in alpha, and with even a small amount of money (relative) Sony can have a finished product out the door 2 years before any of the others can even get to beta. Hopefully Sony will listen to the players, and bring more to the table than some left overs reheated in the oven, yes oven not microwave, but they are still left overs.

Rushing it out the door? Maybe, however I have to end any agreement there. This isn't an RPG, it's a free online MMco-op survival game. Emphasis on free...

All it needs to do really is be better than deathmatch modes in your typical FPS to have any staying power, they seem to be offering far more than simply that, and for free. It's basically PS2 with PVE and more crafting options. I"m sorry if something like COD can rank the highest in consecutive online play hours something like this really doesn't have to try too hard to garner some interest.

We're forgetting what sony's key to offering this type of game is, it's greater library of current and future games available for one small flat fee.

I see no part about this that is a bad idea.

Or don't you know how the game is best played? Also accept it: not every game should be made for everyone

The game does have some interesting features.

Why dump the server types idea? I think it's brilliant. I'm not interested in a free for all pvp deathmatch survival game, but I might try out a coop tower defense or survival type of server setup.

I don't think the foundation of the game should be altered or that the general rule set should be changed to accommodate mass appeal, but if the design itself can allow for many different play styles why not allow for that?

I think a mind wipe so people could play an mmo like it was their first time again, would be easier to build than a new mmo people here would actually like. - DamonVile

Let me get this right -

To be a Sony Game Designer, you need to be able to play someone else's game (say, um, DayZ), write down all the game's features, ask someone else to put those features in your game, no more no less, and come up with a so-so clever title (why not H1DayZ1, ffs?).

I'm thinking that job requires about six-grade writing skills, no creativity, and no education or experience in "game design".  That's about the same skill set as cleaning toilets.

I couldn't be more disappointed that Sony's big 'spiritual successor' to SWG is DayZ with a SOE splash screen at launch.

This will be a F2P game I won't play, even when it is free.  I already have DayZ.

Well other than Zombies its not gonig to be much like DayZ at all.. this is a full on mmo with 1000s of players on each server.

I dont thnik they have sat down and gone yup lets copy Dayz exactly there are a lot of differences.. also if you say that abotu this then you say that abotu every current game that is out there as there are very few origional games these days they are all based on tried and tested genres.. fps, tps, themepark mmorpgs, sandbox mmorpgs, rpgs, arpgs, adventure, horror.. well and many more you get my point so i guess none of the current game companies have any skills at all and should in fact all be cleaning toilets ?

At the end of the day its of course your choice if you play it or not but its free and I think you will be missing out.

Fucking zombie survival games have over 3 million player market, if not more. And you're looking for possibilites of PvE? Give me a break.- even attempting to satisfy anyone else but the survival crowd leads to the games downfall.

Also, zombies do not require AI? I want them to actually behave like "realistic" zombies, I don't want them to stand still and just calculate whether they spotted me or not. I want them to live, stumble around, stare at some broken car mirror while growling, and if player makes noise, attract to that noise and walk towards it, and heaven help you if they spot you in their peripheral vision.

>To be a Sony Game Designer, you need to be able to play someone else's game (say, um, DayZ), write down all the game's features,

DayZ the running simulator? What "game features" exactly?

I'm convinced that SOE saw a great opportunity to use the LightForge engine to make something quick and easy like this zombie survival game.

The engine is solid and battle-tested, but the game concept is extremely limited and the team is very small. They're slapping together some basic game systems, making a nice map and adding lots of promises. Very low budget, probably the cheapest (and fastest) MMO SOE will ever make, so it might actually be profitable with low player numbers. And if it dies in 6 months, nobody will care.

Still trying to see whats going to make it different than the other half-baked survival games...

Spawn, creep around, search for and gather materials, craft, gank other players, make fun of their moms in open chat when they say something about it.

Nothing new or revolutionary. I see alot of 'We Hope to haves' and 'Later on down the line' meaning nothing is guaranteed. I'm sure it will look pretty though...
