1.)  Does this game utilize the holy trinity? (Tank, Healer, and Damage)  If not, explain how it works.

2.) What is the item system like? (Random stats like Diablo? Like WoW? Simplistic? Awesome? Explain.)

3.) Is crafting a huge part of the game? (Best in slot items?) (***Can you max all crafts or do you choose a limited amount?)

4.) Is leveling mostly a singleplayer questline/storyline with side activities like dungeons? If not, what is leveling like?

5.)  What kind of things are there to work for at the level cap? (I see VR or vet terminology used a lot, what is that about?)

6.) If I choose a character path at level 1 and stick to it for the entire game but then change my mind at the level cap, is there a way to completely respec and change my class/specialties or would I need to start a new character?

7.) Is most of the solo friendly or is this mostly a group based experience?

Yes.  But beyond your class skills, you also have your weapon skills, and any class can use any weapon.  There is a weapon "Healing Staff" which when equipped (and when you spend skill points in) you get healing abilities.  So you could be a Sorcerer, with a healing staff, basically a damage dealer that also heals.

2.) What is the item system like? (Random stats like Diablo? Like WoW? Simplistic? Awesome? Explain.)

More like WoW I would say.  If "Cotton Robe" drops, a "Cotton Robe" could have +magick on it, or +stamina, or +hp.  It also could be basic (white named) or uncommon (green named) and so on.  There are also many different "racial" clothing types, so a "Cotton Robe" could look probably 15 or more different ways.  You also can buy enchantments to enchant your gear with +magick or +stamina (which will override your current +name)

Also, some items are "set items" which when you equip "3" of them, you get an ability like: "10% chance to do 5 fire damage on every swing." or..."Increase your healing output by 5%"...so you would have a green named "Cotton Robe of the Warlock", which when combined with 2 other "Of the warlock" peices, you gain 200 mana every 5 minutes when you drop below "10%" mana.

3.) Is crafting a huge part of the game? (Best in slot items?) (***Can you max all crafts or do you choose a limited amount?)

I would say crafting is a big part of the game.  As I mentioned above, there are 15+ different racial styles of armor, and when you create the armor peice, if you have it researched, you can add 1 effect like "Increase exp gained with this armor type"...or "Increase your fire resistance by 5%"...these effects are different from the enchantments, which add magick, or stamina or health and can be put on after the item is made, unlike the other effect which can only be put on when the item is created.

Also throughout the world, are special "tables" in which you can create "set" items, like mentioned above. The "of the warlock" items is one of the sets. So you create a "robe" and you create it at this specific table out int he wilderness, adding "of the warlock" to it. So you make 3 of these items to get the bonus.  And you can have say 3 items "Of the warlock" to get that, then maybe 3 items "of the healer" to get that bonus too.

You can max all crafts, there are woodworking, clothing, blacksmith, enchanting, alchemy, and provisioning (food making).  These all have their own skills too, like "increase your ability to successfully upgrade an item from "White to green" (it takes certain things to upgrade an item...IE...4 pitch will give you 100% chance to upgrade the item, versus 3 pitch which will be 70%...if it fails the item is destroyed."

4.) Is leveling mostly a singleplayer questline/storyline with side activities like dungeons? If not, what is leveling like?

I would say it is a lot of single player questline/storyline.  There are "instanced" dungeons like WoW, but there are also Public Dungeons, like Everquest.  There are also other things around the map, like "anchors" which mobs spawn and you defeat waves, and other such areas to explore and complete.

Basically, you have a decently sized area for each "level range"...IE..5-15..then you go to a new area at 15-32ish, and there are maybe 60+quests in each area.  And each area has many "landmarks" which have a black icon on the map, and usually have quests around them, and once completed, they turn to the white icon.

there are also "world bosses" with skull/crossbones icon on the map, which you will need a few people to help kill for "credit"/exp.

There also are "skyshards" around the world that you find, and every 3 you find, you get 1 skill point.

And an added note, you get 1 skill point when leveling up as well.  And some quests also give you 1 skill point when completed.

5.)  What kind of things are there to work for at the level cap? (I see VR or vet terminology used a lot, what is that about?)

Right now when you hit 50, you are "vr1".  Once you complete your story quest, you then are allowed to go to the other 2 factions "area" to quest and level up your "vr" ranks, which currently end at "vr10".  But, ESO just released information about "adventure zones" or basically "raid zones" designed for veteran rank players, (normal group size is 4), and these adventure zones can be up to group size 12? I think.

Also, there is PvP.  There are 3 sides, and the PvP map is HUGE. And thise large map can be frustrating when traveling sometimes. Basically there are keeps scattered all over, and places that hold "elder scrolls" which provide bonuses. And it is a 24/7 battle, constantly taking keeps, losing them, retaking them, taking scrolls..ect..ect.. but the map is very large and sometimes can take a while to get places on foot, or even on horse.  And then to die as soon as you get there...frustrating...because there are no "ressurection" spells, you use "soul gems" to ressurect people..and lvl 50 soul gems are hard to come by for cheap fi you arent 50. (you are "considered" level 50 in the pvp area, even if you are level 10)..level 10 being the lowest level you can join PvP.

You can port between the keeps to save on travel time. But if a keep is under seige, you generally can't port to it, so you have to port to next the closest keep/area, which may be a 3 minute walk from your destination.  There are also quests/mobs to kill in the PvP map area too (which you "port" to/que up for")

6.) If I choose a character path at level 1 and stick to it for the entire game but then change my mind at the level cap, is there a way to completely respec and change my class/specialties or would I need to start a new character?

You can respec at any time, but it only gets more expensive as you get more skills.  I think it is 100 gold per skill point? And you HAVE to reset ALL your points.  So at lvl 5, with 8 skill points, it wouldn't be so bad, but at level 50 with 200 skill points? (i duno how many you can have by then) it would definitely be more costly.

As far as class, you are stuck with what you choose, but within each class there are 3 "skill lines" with 5 skills each to choose from, which you can also "morph/upgrade" 1 time to have them do addition things.

And like I said, you also can use ANY weapon.  I think there are like 6 or 7 diff weapons? Sword and board, 2hand, bow, destruction staff, duel wield, healing staff..I may be forgetting something. And each weapon has its own set of 5 skills that you unlock using skillpoints/using the item in general.

Also, any class can wear any armor. Heavy/medium/light.  And each armor type has skills associated with it.  You also have racial skills, world skills, and fighter/mage/undanted guild skill lines.  You also can be a vampire/werewolf with their own skills.  Then you have PvP skills if you decide to use those.

7.) Is most of the solo friendly or is this mostly a group based experience?

I would say mostly solo.  You can group with people to quest, and you will most likely encounter people while questing and "team up" with them without actually grouping because you are in the same area doing the same objectives for the quest.  But you can also "grind mobs", which there are good spots to just kill mobs to gain exp/loot, which people group for.

Or group to do the instanced dungeons, or the public dungeons.

This is not a hard trinity game, you can tank and heal and DPS but the NPCs wont let you tank and spank. If you want a hard trinity game like EQ or WoW look else where.

1. Yes and no. Supposedly yes but it definitely doesn't feel like it, probably  a product of almost everyone being a DPS+x as opposed to straight heal/tank. Feels like a slightly less chaotic GW2

2. Pretty much like WoW/every other MMO

3. People will tell you yes, but I don't see it. From what I understand best in slot items aren't crafted, so really crafting just keeps you outfitted while leveling. You can sell crafted goods rather easily, but usually only to other crafters for disassembly.

4. Yes. The only time you are even reminded the game is an MMO is when someone steals a spawn from you, basically. Even if you group up with someone, 90% of the time you wont see them because you are in different phases. Grouping is horrendous, it's a single player game with a lobby/dungeons/the ability for people to steal spawns from you for seemingly no reason.

5. Cant comment on this I quit pretty quick.

6. Yes but expensive, almost prohibitively so.

7. It is entirely solo friendly except for dungeons, just like every other MMO.

Currently playing: EVE Online, Prime World, Planetside 2, Hawken

Nr3 is flat out wrong all the best in slot items are crafted or upgraded by crafters no yellow grade armor weapon drops. only rings and jewelery if they exisit will be droped im not max level content player so cant comment on jewelery.

Nr4 there is no kill stealing all who hit mob with attack or even heal the one attacking are awarded loot that said not all kills yield loot anyway, cant say i and my bud is 90% separated by phases only on solo quest lines like the main one fighter and mage guild quests and vampire werewolf questlines that you have to solo.

I have heard tho that american players seem to have alot of trubble with it.

Nr6 just his opinion it cost 100 for each skillpoint you spent and 100 for each attribute if you decide to respec both my char around lvl 22 cost 3200 to respec his skillpoints and i earned that 4 times over if you count in the 17.3k i would have spent on a horse ( but i dident got imperial for the mount and race)

Nr7 I would like to see him solo the dark anchors and skull with bones markers that spawn champion mobs + the world bosses

Obviously you like the game, which is fine, but lets not try to put lipstick on a pig here. The game has it's merits, but it falls short in a lot of categories.

"Nr3:" Crafting is fun and more interesting than in most games, but you said in your own post you are not max level so obviously you can't comment on the state of endgame gear. I never made it to max either, but I have heard time and time again that the best gear comes from dungeons, or gear from dungeons is just as good as crafted gear which still makes crafted gear "ok" at best. I can't say for certain, but the fact that the game couldn't keep me interested long enough to find out speaks volumes.

"Nr4": I didn't know you get credit for any mob you hit because the army of bots kills shit before I can even click on it more often than not. And aside from that - what about locked chests? Quest items? The TESO community is incredibly rude and toxic, people will stand at a locked chest you are picking, and you damn well better get it on the first try or they will come in and snipe it away from you. Considering the only damn thing that gives more than 2 gold in that game is locked chests, thats a pretty big fucking deal. I hear people say "well its so easy, you shouldnt be messing up your lockpick attempts". Guess I'm just not pro enough to play TESO.

As for the phasing, if you are denying that I am sorry - you need to take the rose colored glasses off. Unless you are leveling with the same person from level 1 to max, you will encounter this issue. Even then you still might, because the quests love to bug out and only one person completes it. Then guess what? You can't help your friend complete it because you are phased out of it. So you get to sit there and watch a little white arrow float around and twiddle your thumbs.

"Nr6:" Exactly. You had an extra 17k gold (which is still BS because the only horse that is worthwhile costs double that) because you spent an extra $20 I wasn't inclined to spend on a game I was iffy on (thank god I didn't). What about the fact that every mob, including BOSSES, drops like 1 gold? And there is no auction house other than trade guilds which you have to join, and what if you end up in a shit trade guild? How would you know? How can you tell prices are fair when you can't even search for a single item in the damn guild store? The economy in that game is horrendously bad.

"Nr7:" Ok. He can't solo anchors, bosses, and dungeons. That is what... 10% of the games content if I am being generous?

In my opinion the game is just a worse GW2 with an Elder Scrolls paint job. The class system is pretty good and addicting, but beyond that there really isn't much to keep me (or apparently a lot of people) motivated to keep playing.

Currently playing: EVE Online, Prime World, Planetside 2, Hawken

7. It is entirely solo friendly except for dungeons, just like every other MMO

You are wrong about nr3 mate let me find a link for you ( it maybe true that the best set bonuses and unique enchants come from droped sets for some people, i havent seen all of them yet but i dubt that they are the only that  will fit into everyones combination of class/world/guild skill combos)

Check the 16th post on page 1 here

Nr4 the red text if you arent hitting the mob why should you be allowed to get loot? and sure it have and still is a problem in some dungeons i got a tip for everyone use a aoe ground attack it will hit that boss for you or group up with the none bots since if group member tag you get loot to or heal the bots since you get contribution then to, havent been unable to complete one public dungeon yet.

and were in my post were did we talk about the chest it was about kill stealing bud....

I also hate having to rush and compete for chests so i ask in begining of group round robin or free for all, if ffa i leave and look for another team if someone steal chests they get kicked ( and group look for new and restart the dungeon)

Another bad part about the game imo kicked members dont get kicked out of instance so they can still greif you.

http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/87867/patch-notes-v-1-1-inc-craglorn-from-pts/p1

Dungeon Chest Changes
Chests within instances have undergone two changes:
Shared Chests – Each player in the group who is within 50 meters of the chest when it is unlocked will get an individual roll on the chest.
Reduced Number of Chests – Since each chest yields rewards for all group members, we have reduced the number of chests in instances to two total. Each instance will always have two chests in then, but the location of these two chests will be random within the dungeon.
These changes do not affect chests that appear in public spaces, only those within instances.

Not being a english native speaker seems to me everyone get loot from chests if close to them but then again they say indvidual roll i hope its not the need and greed crap from other games since everyone will just press need.

About the phasing yes i have leveled with the same people the whole game i got a specific char to play when neither of them are on and 1 to play if only 1 of em are on. so thats 4 chars 1 solo 2 duo and 1 trio, we have never had trubble with only one getting credit for a boss kill but i saw it on Angry joes review so i know its possible.

nr6 you dident read much did you mate i said aside from the 17.3k i should have put on a horse they are gone i can still respec my char 4 times and thats after i spent alot of coin on crafting styles buying items to research to keep my research slots filled not selling materials or items since i need to deconstruct everything to gain levels in my crafts, money aint hard to get if you sell items do quests the rewards for em are good since you only get 1-2 gold from droped mob, gather the materials you roam over convert iron ore to iron bars (same for wood and cloth) if you earn more then 5 you usualy do you gain gold on the conversion with the added bonus to the upgrade materials you can sell for 100g gold or more depending on grade.

And you dont have to be in a trade guild Zone chat works just as well i sold more there then on the guild since they take a 25% cut 15 up front no refundable and 10% if you do get it sold.

Its not bad its just not suited for the i want it now crowd and i want to put everything on a global ah and forget about it people..

Nr7 maybe you should read what he typed aswell im replying that its wrong that only dungeons need groups i dident state that so and so % is needed to be completed by group.

And yes i like the game and would like it to be atleast be judged on what it actualy is.

Yes, but the Trinity in TESO is not dependent on the core classes. What part role you play depends on the skills you decide to equip.

At the first 15 levels you won't find many healers. From level 15 on and with 2 skillbars becoming available this changes.

With my Nightblade for example I equipped light armor (damage caster). I have equipped a Fire Staff and a Healing staff as backup weapon. This means that I can switch between 2 roles at will - damage and healer.

2.) What is the item system like? (Random stats like Diablo? Like WoW? Simplistic? Awesome? Explain.)

Items come in different 5 quality levels. White, Green, Blue, Purple and Gold. The higher the quality, the higher the base damage of the weapon. The quality also has got an impact on the bonuses of the weapon. With increasing quality the bonuses become stronger.

Bonusses are:

Traits - Weapon traits are passives. They grant always active bonusses such as:

- Reduction to the cooldown of weapon enchantments by x %

- Increase to the amount of weapon enchantments by x %

- Increase Weapon and Spell Crit Rate by x %

- Increase Weapon Enchantment Effect by x %

- Increase total armor and spell resist rate by x %

- Increase skill line experience gain of the weapon type by x %

- Increase armor and spell penetration by x %

- Increase weapon attack speed by x %

Enchantments:

There is tons of different enchantments that can be put on weapons, armor parts and jewelry. Only one enchantment is possible per item. Enchantments also come in 5 different quality levels. The higher the quality, the higher the bonus.

Item Sets:

The game also offers item sets. They come with different bonusses, dependent on how many items are equipped. Some sets only offer 1 bonus when equipping 3 parts of the set, some offer an additional bonus when equipping 5 parts of the set.

On Veteran Ranks item sets exist that offer 3 bonusses.

Items including bonuses in form of traits, enchantments and sets can be crafted. Some rare items and item sets are dropped off bosses in dungeons.

3.) Is crafting a huge part of the game? (Best in slot items?) (***Can you max all crafts or do you choose a limited amount?)

Crafting is important. When leveling to 50 you can easily maintain 3 crafts. I chose Woodworking, Clothworking and Provisioning. In addition I salvage blacksmithing items (swords, plate armors) and gain skill points in this craftsmanship so that skilling the bonus to extracting items could be picked.

Crafting your own items, preferably item-sets that can be crafted at certain crafting stations in the game world, makes your character strong. There is a noticeable difference between running around with quest- and random drop equipment and running around with properly fitted craft equipment.

How many crafts you may learn is limited by 2 things:

1) Skill points: Investing points into crafts means that you will miss these points in class abilities / weapon abilities. I recommend to not solely focus on crafting.

2) Your inventory and bank space. Upgrading your inventory and bank space is mandatory. Crafting eats up a lot of space. 2 crafts can be easily maintained. Picking 3 crafts leaves almost no space to store items. Of course you can always chose to store your crafting mats in your guild warehouse, which will free up a lot of space.

4.) Is leveling mostly a singleplayer questline/storyline with side activities like dungeons? If not, what is leveling like?

This is totally up to you. The game allows you to completely progress solo and offers additional group content such as dungeons for 4-man groups, or challenges and world bosses in the open world. However, grouping makes things easier and means more fun.

5.)  What kind of things are there to work for at the level cap? (I see VR or vet terminology used a lot, what is that about?)

The game basically has 2 stages.

1) Level 1-50: In this stage you experience the main storyline and storyline for your chosen faction.

2) Veteran Content VR1- VR10: In Veteran Ranks you experience the storylines of the other 2 factions. With patch 1.1 being deployed soon, the cap for veteran ranks will be raised to VR12. Veteran Content also presents you with veteran dungeons. In the end the same dungeons you already have visited from levels 1-50, but this time they are a real challenge.

6.) If I choose a character path at level 1 and stick to it for the entire game but then change my mind at the level cap, is there a way to completely respec and change my class/specialties or would I need to start a new character?

It is estimated that the game currently offers roundabout 300 skill points. This allows you to max out 4 craftings, play around with all 2-3 class skill lines, 2-3 weapon types, some guild abilities, PvP abilities and so on.

I don't see a big problem here when it comes to developing your character in different ways, but one thing should be clear. You will not be able to use every given skill lines at once.

In case you want to respec, this is possible but comes with costs in form of in-game currency.

7.) Is most of the solo friendly or is this mostly a group based experience?

Depends. Levels 1-50 I'd say more solo friendly with additional group content. When reaching Veteran Ranks grouping is recommended but not mandatory.

So much wrong with everything you have said I don't even know where to begin...

I guess the phasing & playing with friends. Maybe you havent heard of t, but there is this nifty little thing where you can right-click your friend and teleport to them, which puts you in the same phase as them. Use it all the time to go back and do stuff with my brother who is lower level and working on quests Ive already completed. It's not that difficult to figure out. Aside from the purely solo instanced stuff (like the main story quests) you can go play with your friends any time.

Crafting:

1) Crafted items have better stats than dropped versions of equivalent gear. Slightly higher weapon damage or armor.

2) Individual items also become somewhat irrelevant. You can craft sets with set bonuses given at 3 & 5 pieces equipped. There are also some of these that drop, but they are generally X level range set, and thats the only set there is for that type of armor. Whereas through crafting, you can create any sets you want. Some very nice bonuses to be had, and you can also combine multiple sets to really tweak your build.

I may get a really cool drop that has 5 more armor than the piece I crafted, but I could also just craft the set that gives me +100 more armor for 3 pieces instead.

3) Items can also be upgraded to higher rarities which, along with the level of the item, are the biggest factor in their power. Each upgrade not only increases the base damage / armor of the item, but also increases the bonus of the trait on the item. For example, if your weapon has + attack speed%, turning it green, blue, purple, gold will each increase the attack speed % by more.

4) The ability to combine the above mentioned aspects, as well as several other factors, to achieve the best gear for your build, requires high level crafting. Not only to craft the base items, but also to make it much much easier to get the rare items needed for performing the upgrades, the % chance to successfully upgrade with each of them, and the ability to craft the different sets (which require having X number of traits researched per item and can take massive amounts of time without having high levels and investing skill points in reducing research times and researching multiple items).

Gold: Right, mobs including bosses don't drop much gold directly. The gold comes from the items they drop and through either selling those items, or getting good crafting mats off of them to sell or craft your own better stuff to sell. This is actually a good thing. It helps make having crafting useful and prfoitable, and also requires a bit more effort to make lots of money rather than having it handed to you.  It's very easy to make money if you actually try to do it rather than just QQing that youre not getting thousands of gold instantly from mob drops.

About that n3 that you guys seem to be arguing about... well remember one point and one point only - you can can be a VR10... get a bow, craft it, upgrade it to green, then to blue, then to epic, then to legendary... and that legendary will always be better than ANYTHING that will drop from ANYTHING ANYWHERE.

So that being said, yes, crafted gear is ultimately the best gear you can have, IF you get those materials...

That applies for any kind of gear, including glyphs

Gold is actually difficult to stockpile using normal play - you actually have to wheel and deal to sell things, which I think is actually really interesting.  You find gear or make your own (it's actually expensive to repair gear.)  I also really like the social aspects of the game.  MMO players have been trained to think that you need a formal group with rigid roles to qualify as being social.  In this game you get kill credit for quests if you tap a mob (they are not locked at all) and you get kill credit for loot with a pretty low threshold (e..g. if you do any significant damage you'll get credit.)  This means that there is no cost to helping others, and people do it all of the time - there are spontaneous duos and teams that get together, whether formally grouped or not, to help out.  And you absolutely need help on the tougher encounters - your character will die in this MMO, probably a lot.

The build system is also extremely flexible - you can design radically different approaches with the same class.  I have a traditional melee dragonknight (2-hander+heavy armor) and one that is a pyromaniac wizard (destruction staff + light armor).  You get a restricted set of abilities, which make it possible to have a variety of viable approaches (as there are a lot of different paths that give you 12 things to use at a time.)

Re. 3)

Crafted gear, at this point, is always better than any drop in game. And you can also craft set pieces with bonus. Therefore crafted gear is top level gear.

Hodor!
